Finding this TOTALLY made my night. We had this on VHS as well when I was 3 years old. The tape is wearing, and the end gets cut off to a taped episode of smurfs.
So I'm extremely happy to see this again. I used to be terrified of the heffalumps though. LOL But this is classic right here. Disney will and has never been the same with the kind of garbage they throw on their channels now.
I had this on VHS along with Garfield and Peanuts halloween/thanksgiving specials on it. I think it also had the Peanuts 'homecoming' episode and the one where they're in France at the Chateau.
Anyway.
My sister taped over it with Daria. I was so pissed.
I'm so happy this is here. Brings back nice memories.
I was beginning to think I had imagined this! Seeing this as a kid was the first time I heard Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) and honestly it kind of creeped me out. The fact that it IS a vaguely unsettling song is probably why it is one of all-time favourites.
Ahh, this brings back good old memories when I was a child! Used to love going trick or treating almost every Halloween. Glad that this is on here since its been 22 years! The music, and the different themes of the cartoons matches perfectly!
"Sweet Dreams" was one of my favorite songs from my childhood and I think this show was where I heard it first! I love that they use lots of clips from Dumbo as that was one of my favs when I was younger as well! I love this! Disney did a great job with their own clips and who they set them to music.
I find it extremely odd that you know about some random dude named "Jeff Jones" who was a stunt double in a random live-action Disney movie and not the Jeffrey Jones who played Mr. Rooney in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
So I used to have a VHS tape my mom recorded when I was about 5, bout 18yrs ago.... Had a bunch of Disney "Halloween" music cartoon videos like, Sweet Dreams, Thriller, Monster Mash... Mmmmm the Ghost Busters Theme... all that. I dont kno what I'm tryin to say is is there a place to watch them lol. I miss them all.
I remember the Halloween DTV... Wasn't Witch Hazel a "host" or guest announcer... I remember the intro to "Thriller" was something like "...hit it Michael Jackson!"
hehe the other day i was thinkin bout that 'sweet dreams' song and my mum told me i got addicted to it wen i was a little kid when i saw a halloween special of disney characters. i'm glad i found this, i dnt remember it but its funny to see the things i used to watch :P im seventeen now, but i wish they'd make good shows like this for kids. they dnt have anything like alladin or lion king anymore: i was addicted :D
Who knows, not "When" we will see anything like this again, IF we will see anything like this again. All I can say is that this stuff is pure classic. I am so proud to have had this recorded when I was only 2 years old. Disney back then had SEVERAL prime time specials, if I recall, on all 3 of the major networks. The Disney back then was so awesome, especially DTV!
@owenpeterson I'm so glad my mom taped this for my older sister, two years before I was born! I have watched this every Halloween as long as I can remember.
I saw that clip were Donald has the swastika on his shirt. I just caught it and watched it again. And sure enough there was one there. What cartoon is that from and why was it there.I know in some of the Bugs bunny cartoons they show swastikas on there but they were patriotic cartoon for the US against the Axis Powers.
It's from "Wynken, Blynken & Nod" (1938), one of Disney's most elaborate Silly Symphony cartoons. It's on the second Disney Treasures DVD set of those if you want to track it down.
@DTVzone Thanks for posting this! I got online to find this out the clips use for Sweet Dreams after watching this scene at home. I cannot believe it's from 1938! It's such a beautiful scene.
awesome, thanks for the upload, i had never seen this and i love halloween and dtv. This special was really well made great casting for voices and choices of music. thanks again
As a huge Spike Jones fan, I must say seeing a huge montage of Disney classic cartoons edited into a musical piece of his was almost better than..... something really, really gratifying. ;-)
[.....] Clips from Spike Jones continued Donald's Crime [1945] Peter Pan [1953] Dog Watch [1945] The Three Caballeros [1945] Baggage Buster [1941] Trombone Trouble [1944] Mickey & The Beanstalk [1947] Clown of the Jungle [1947] Cinderella [1950] The Band Concert [1935] [.....]
Clips from cartoons used in "That Old Black Magic" Fantasia [1940] Babes in the Woods [1932] Magician Mickey [1937] The Eyes Have It [1945] Ben & Me [1953] How to Be a Detective [1952] Alice in Wonderland [1951] Cold War [1951] The Moth & The Flame [1938] [.....]
It's watching shows like this that make me wish Disney would make a retro Disney Channel and show all the old shows and features they used to show on television
I have loved this halloween special since I was little. It's a shame that this generation didn't get a chance to see it. The disney channel used to play it every year.
Clip at 7:40... what is that? There's a swastika on Donald's hat at 7:41....
stopan29 2 months ago
@stopan29 It's from "Der Furher's Face", an anti-Nazi short produced during the War.

1:46 What clip is that from?
CanadianRanger17 1 year ago
@CanadianRanger17 It's technically new footage created for the special, but most of the animation looks like it's traced directly from other shorts.
DTVzone 1 year ago
@CanadianRanger17 The characters were from a previous cartoon called DUCK PIMPLES.

Well that was an interesting find though for a moment there I thought that was Tim Curry as the Magic Mirror. I know now that its not but still...

No, this magic mirror is a little more child-molestory than it would have been if Tim Curry had done it.
