  • lol, the guitar and bass weren't even tuned together....you can hear the way the harmonics vibrato at the sustain in the end.....oooops

  • I'll give it to you alright.....you wait n see

  • GIVE ME YOUR ATTENTION "GIVE IT TO ME"

  • Why is the photography on Brit documentaries so bad?? The music and bands are always the best, but you can count on the pictures being drab, lifeless, uncreative, and almost boring.

  • @powergirl901 tradition my dear....pip pip

  • Excellent video. Thanks!

  • GONNA USE MY FINGERRRRRRRRRRRRRRZZZ!!!!!!

  • Nena is better fakt. Remember kino auf wiedersehn and das mega hit 99 luft ballons

  • I am wondering

  • define real talent - beautiful vocals with a mic in on hand and a cigarette on the other. Beautiful

  • What beautiful voicings from the Honeyman!

  • No. There's something wrong with the sound on this video..at 2:55 it dips.and the whole thing may be 1/2 step slow..nit tuned down.....

  • the guitarist used to live just up the road from my house, i think that may be why there are so many guitarists here

  • chrissy hynde hates this song, saw her say that on some interview

  • Sometimes you just use your imagination.

  • even out of tune this song sounds good by the pretenders--probly when it was transferred from tape the video was slow so that's why it's all out of tune. too bad she smokes. always liked the pretenders. so many big singers are smokers. vetter, hynde, robert plant... too bad. anyway i always liked her unique voice.

  • @sabaqat It is at the same tempo as the standard track; Jimmy Scott and Farndon are tuned down a half step, a common practice to make it sound ballsier and also to make it easier if the singer is having trouble hitting the high notes. If the tempo were slower, I would say it was slowed down, but it is the same. It is the tuning. For this tune, the low E string of the bass guitar is tuned down a whole step to D, so when you add the half-step detune to that, it really sounds low, D flat

  • @acbulgin2 that is VERY interesting about the tuning--I did not know they did that. i might try that... but i disagree about the tuning of the song, it is out of tune, it sounds wrong. you may not be old enough to remember what a cassette or video tape sounds like when it's wound too tight. There is another similar video, a smiths song, that just sounds terrible and people are criticizing johnny marr saying he's an idiot and can't tune his guitar but i'm sure it's because of the tape quality.

  • @sabaqat Yes I am quite old enough to remember tape decks and LP's (I'm 44). And yes, there can be video and audio tape speed variations that cause pitch variations (it's called "wow"). Additionally, this is obviously an off-the-cuff live rendition of the song. Chrissie is having real problems reaching the notes (maybe it's the stupid cigarette). Notice the first "gonna make you, make you, make you notice" part. She is grabbing at her throat as it it were sore, which it probably was.

  • @sabaqat It also sounds "wrong" because, aside from the half-step down tuning, it is not the finished, produced, overdubbed, mixed and mastered track we all heard on the record and the radio.Notice that the E11 chord on the Fender Rhodes electric piano is missing on the "I gotta have some of your attention, give it to me." parts. It's on the finished, official track. One of the greatest rock albums of all time. It had it all. I bought it the moment it became available. I think I was 13.

  • @acbulgin2 wow we're about the same age. i used to love the pretenders and the cars, those were the first bands i used to like... anyway who really cares about the tuning of some song performed 20 years ago, definitely not worth arguing over. ok take care

  • @sabaqat There is no argument, I was just explaining perhaps why it might have sounded "wrong" to you. There is no question Jimmy and Pete are tuned down a half-step. Any guitar player with perfect pitch or a pitch reference like a tuned guitar or tuner will tell you. They were just messin'. Havin' fun, and notice that guitar jam in the middle of this version is not even on the official one. I think it sounds cool, almost Rush-like or perhaps Van Halenesque. Yes Cars great.

  • @acbulgin2 You're right about the de-tuning. My guess is Chrissie was having trouble with her voice that night. Notice how she kind of squeaks out the highest notes. And sounds a little forced.

  • @jimmyfrench she needs a spanking for smokeing that cigarette

  • That's cool how Chryssie smokes her cigarette during the guitar solo.

  • attention it is on the chart but still said it say the words pocket

  • she,s the sexiest woman alive

  • Chrissy HYNDE : Uber rock chick !!! She has it all...

  • Pity whoever loaded this didn't read the title properly. It's pocket not pockets. Best song they ever did though (IMO)

  • James Honeyman Scott RIP. I get very sad when I listen to the guitar solo in Lovers of Today. Such a terrible, terrible shame. I'll always think of him as one of the greatest.

  • Without a doubt, had Jim Scott and Peter survived the early 80s they would still be huge today. It was the combination of the 4 that made the band so great. Chrissy still does great stuff but isn't consistent

  • what a great "souvenir" !!!! still so good

  • musically this is fantastic

  • i just love this song and this is an awesome version

thanks so much for sharing it:)

  • @rockabillychickee check into a devotion it is class and school will make the test always so way cheap cool

  • On the issue single Iam sure Chrissy is playing Rhythm Guitar, it sounds like it can anyone enlighten me.

  • super!! I love this song! =)

  • I don't think anyone ever accused Hynde of being an excellent singer however her VOICE was awesome and meshed with the tunes to an extent that is just not seen anymore.

  • I accuse her of being an excellent singer. Maybe not in this but, check out songs like 'Happy Christmas' or 'One More Time'

She's got a voice of gold.

  • Too young for cigaret, too young to die...forget it...try to be older...don't be in a hurry...

  • I love this song, Chrissie Hynde rules

  • this song is amazing

  • yeah, thereabouts.

  • dag, never seen anyone smoke and sing at the same time

  • damn that girl was singing with a cigarette

  • wHAT A PITY THE TWO GUYS DIED FROM drugs!!

  • This is soooooo hot! I'm gonna try this song on my lone acoustic ... (scream).. Chrissie is great... the whole band is awesome!!! Peace, ~Sharon

  • Awesome... -Z

  • She was a smoker and she was born sept 1951

  • Chrissie was born September 20,1948.

  • 1951

  • Chrissie Hynde isn't a smoker.

  • not anymore

  • Nice performance, miserably photographed. Too dark; camera three miles away on the longer shots. Pity.

  • I love the cheap raw production. If they had a budget for a couple steadycams and a director it would have been a slickly edited lip-synced piece of crap. I LOVE IT! Unlike the Grammys, an actual real performance.

  • You raise a good point, but I'm not persuaded that the two possibilities you set forth are the only ones. I've seen lots of footage that conveys the gritty realness you value and yet is also well-photographed. And I don't see what lip-syncing has to do with anything. Anyhow, we don't get to see a lot of video of the late lamented Pete and James, and I wish that what we do have were more expertly shot.

  • No those aren't the only two, but if they were, i would take this one. It makes me feel like you're a fly on the wall in their rehearsal, rather than an audience member of a show. It just feels like the inside scoop. Just like it's fun to see outakes from movies.

  • Yeah, I can definitely agree with that. Enjoy!

  • man, i love that girl.

  • great video. Just as i remember them. Wonder if Chrissie is still smoking or like the rest of us old farrts has given up for fear of dyin too young. What happened the two players who passed away...drat, I like to think they are all immortal.

  • Chrissy in all her beauty.

  • Really amazing how much this little country has contributed to the world in the field of music/entertainment

  • shes from Ohio

  • Its like Echo Beach 1980, a track that stays with you forever, thanks

  • Great to see Martin Chambers' two tone kit. Is it me, or do they start this a bit slow?

  • this is better than the music vid cause its all really them performing the way they would

  • wow, this is awesome

  • I love this song to bits. Thanks for posting. Fantastic Pretenders.

  • I have this on VHS. It's called British Rock.

  • that's a great vid. Chrissie smoking!!! WOW LOVE LOVE LOVE & thanx to whoever put this here :-)

  • ummmm anyone seen the 977 website? the video on there of this os good...same thing just without the silly man at the beginning....aaaahhhh its just timeless...

  • I've seen clips of this in various Prenteders docs. It's obviously form some UK TV show in 1979 or '80. Does anyone have the full length version of this program?

  • Pete Farndon was too cool. He tunes his low string to D for this song.

  • jungs, don't forget that Pete Fardon was there too

  • WOW!! Thanks for the vid. James Honeyman-Scott did rule!!

  • James Honeyman Scott is absolutely brilliant. I wish he was around for a lot longer than he was. Think of the possibilities. A true LEGEND.

  • fantastic that turned back the clock

  • anyone know where this is from?
