  • Gary Taubes has finally come up with a reason why people get fat that doesn't involve blame, shame and guilt! Thank God somebody has finally come out and breathed some sanity into this subject. Since listening to his interviews and reading his book, I've stopped wheat, sugar and high GI carbs in my diet and I'm feeling great. Losing weight effortlessly. And I'm not slaving at a gym, I just go for a walk.

  • America wants you to saty FAT! They aint gonna tell you ! You have any idea how much cash they will loose it they actually said "ya this is whats making us fat please stop"...? NO WAY! think about it people.... ive cut out carbs for 3 weeks now and have lost 15 pound! the first week was torture and hell, but now its amazing, I also quit smoking... that too the first 3 months was hell but now im 3 years smoke free.... : ) wake up people!

  • jillian micheals is a quack. When she said "Weight loss is an energy equation." Tell that to someone who consumes 600 calories a day and doesn't lose any weight. It's a hormonal equation.

  • Jillian Michaels = dumb...... I love how she tried to explain thermodynamics to Taubes. She basically said nothing. Didn't explain why somebody tends to store more fat.

  • Wowwww. Obesity people are "fat pigs" according to Joy. God she was soo biased towards Dr. Oz. Oz is a fraud!

  • Taubes just came to my university and I got to hear him speak and what he says makes a lot of sense. There was a kid there that did his diet and lost 150 pounds so there must be something to it

  • I still dont get how 'Dr. Oz" ( an entertainment Icon) gets away debating with Gary Taubes ( a medical journalist ) about the effects of Macro nutrients.

  • I think the protein makes you feel full longer as long as carbs aren't there to have insulin store your calories in fat cells, thereby depriving other cells of energy, thus makng your body hungry again. I also drink a gallon of water a day.

  • By the way, I've been eating pork chops, ribeye steaks, baked chicken with skin, fish (all organic-grass fed-hormone and antibiotic free). Moreover, I eat alot of low starch veggies and fruits. And what I've found I'm satisfied with each meal for 4-6 hours before I might think of eating again whereas with the carb rich diet, I was eating every 2-4 hours cuz I felt hungry again.

  • Idk what that trainer and dr. Oz were talking about, I've been on a carb restricted diet for two weeks and have lost 7 pounds already. And as for exercise, I've been doing one half hour high intensity weight liftin session a week as prescribed by drew baye, mike mentzer, or dr. Doug mcguff ( all here on YouTube to watch)- meaning I know the weight is coming off due to diet change not exercise.

  • Taubes is correct. Atkins was and remains correct. Eat like our ancestors, meat, poultry, fish, seafood, green leafy vegetables and you will be healthy. Jillian relies almost exclusively on starvation diets, which are NEVER effective long-term. Instead, eat plenty of good food, don't go hungry, eliminate grain based carbs and you will improve your health. Once you lose some weight you will feel more like exercising. I've done it and it works!!

  • Taubes to Micheals: you are worthless, Micheals to Taubes: but but but!

  • Eating fat burgers will make you fat. If you eat fruits, vegetables and even substitute meat with veggie burgers, you will lose weight and feel cleaner. People don't like that truth because they want to gorge on their greasy garbage.

  • I used to love Dr. Oz, Jillian, and the Biggest Loser, but I tried their methods, and I had a little bit of success, but not much. I dont like to brag, but if I really try to do something, I stick to it and do it. I always got frustrated, because I would do what the 'establishment' said to do, and it didn't work. Finally, I read about low carb, listened to Gary Taubes, Mary Vernon, Dr. Atkins and all of the other Low Carb advocates, and it made so much sense. I've lost 35+ lbs, and counting.

  • @MelanieRaeMurphy Yup. You get it. Me too. It absolutely makes sense and works because you don't have to starve yourself. Well done!!!

  • One day they will listen and understand, they cut him off and twist everything he says. I am a personal trainer and I specialise in weight loss, I could not praise Gary's book enough. Exercise has many benefits, but any personal trainer will regrettably tell you that nutrition is the key to fat loss.

  • @danscottbinns I am also a certified fitness instructor. Taubes is correct. Oz, Jillian and the conventional wisdom just set people up for failure. Great comment!!

  • esa jilian michaels siempre habla mierda

  • @otasnake Sí, sí. Un montón de mierda.

  • why bring Taubes on if you're not going to let him talk? Stupid. Read his book first and then chat with him. Jeezzussss.

  • Exercise DOES increase your appetite. If you're diet contains bad foods, the exercise will be rendered USELESS. Instead of realising this, the focus is purely around the blunt statement "exercise bad!". Jillean Michaels is a fucking idiot for not realising this. Gary Taubes failed to explain this, and he also failed to deliver the message about natural source carbohydrates (i.e vegetables) SHOULD comprise the majority of your caloric intake. No sympathy for him.

  • Poppy does not represent by appearance the epitome of health and fitness. Most Biggest Loser contestants gain the weight back and are promoting some sort of weight loss supplement for a quick fix. Oz and Michaels refused to listen to the information Taubes presented. I believe Oz is afraid of losing pharmaceutical kickbacks and Michaels relies on the fact that her clients will always need her because her nutrition advice will keep them on the weight loss merry-go-round forever. Taubes is absolu

  • Dr. Oz and Jillian Michaels are comical.

  • wish Oz would let Taubes finish his sentences...

  • Well I didn't lose 100 pounds because of Gary, but I did lose 90. Thanks Gary!!!

  • Good to know Santa is gonna get some weight off his bones

  • I've not read the book and I notice that most of the comments here appear to be heavily fanboyish, but I'll ask anyway: has Gary Taubes done any research of his own? You can't just read a bunch of papers and make some conclusions and call that science. Without experimentation, it's just conjecture.

  • @aluisious Gary Taubes is a science journalist, not a researcher.

However I believe he has been consulting with some medical researchers to get studies going that will be based on his assertions.

  • @aluisious

The papers he mentions in his book ARE experiments that he's reviewing. He brings up many that show that there aren't any scientific basis to the common health practices today. He's not just drawing his own conclusions, he's making more public the opinions of the researchers who performed experiments that were buried under the overabundance of people using bad science to (not) prove that fat is 'bad'.

You really should read the book! It's good.

  • 5:06

"Exercise releases a series of hormones, not just insulin, insulin is..."

She's lucky Gary cut her off there, stopping that line of thought probably saved her a lot of embarrassment.

  • Would someone bitchslap dr Oz, plz?

  • A personal trainer says exercise is essential to weight loss? Hmm, why would she lie?

  • @MrThomJKing She says weight is an energy equation. FAIL.

  • What a load of crap from all these guys. Disrespecting Taubes. He gets cut off every time he talks.

  • Serotonin doesn't decrease your appetite, it increases it. That's why the number one side effect of SSRI's is weight gain.

  • @MichaelnChristine Yes well. Did you expect a personal trainer to have a clue about biochemistry?

  • @alangilbey1 Before she lectures a Harvard grad on National TV? Yes. LOL

  • Hey Gary why don^t u mention(which you left out) ASP---Acylation Stimulating Protein ? This drives fat into the fat cell without carbs or insulin present.Yes,that^s right, fat gain without carbs or insulin. This shoots to pieces your insulin only drives fat & carbs are instrinsically evil nonsense. If its a protein--steak,chicken,lamb or a fat--butter,nuts,olive or coconut oil your body easily will convert to fat & store it if u take in more than u need.No carb need be present.

  • @sumbarine Do you find it interesting that Body Builders jack insulin levels up in order to increase growth but don't inject ASP? How about we be honest and you tell us just how efficient ASP is at storing fat, Is it equally efficient? 10x more efficient than insulin? Isn't it true that it is significantly less efficient at fat storage? According to Lancet and Nature it's approx 10,000x less efficient than insulin.

  • @MichaelnChristine Do you find it interesting that Pharmaceutical companies don^t sell Insulin lowering drugs to lose weight even though insulin lowering drugs exist ? Notice when it comes to weight loss,Insulin lowering drugs are never prescribed ?ASP is even more able to store fat,the reason that you don^t here much about it is because No One & I mean No one can live solely on fats & proteins. If they did ASP would be right there instead of insulin.

  • Love that comment from Gilian,"Gary if you can show me whom you^ve taken of a 100 pds maybe we^ll talk".That put Taubes in his place."Do u remember working up a appetite regarding excercise?". Yeah Gary,I also remember in the 50s,60s,70s people drinking coca-cola,eating white bread toast, mom making apple pie,French Fries etc & no one was hardly obese. Why ? we all moved more & were more active before computer desk jobs,200 channels cable, video, satelite, internet. No mention of this in Taubes memory

  • @sumbarine Do you have mental problems because you've posted these comments on 6 different videos and you don't seem to want to talk rationally. You are just attacking and it sounds angry and personal.

  • If Jilian would shut her yap and listen Gary is just trying to point out that exercise alone isn't affective at weight loss..She is obviously threatened by Gary's intellect and can't even correctly listen to what he had to say. Also she tried to pull out the law of thermodynamics crap which made no point. Gary doesn't disagree with that law, he's just saying what is creating that imbalance has been overlooked. She needs to stick to Looking hot , because her debating skills are weak.

  • Amazing! They are all shouting at Taubes refusing to listen to him and Dr Oz is literally putting his hand over Taubes mouth!

  • I agree with gary because it works =

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know why you guys are dissing Oz. He's really compassionate in his field. He has saved lots of lives, and that's a fact. If he's wrong, and it's proven for a fact later on, he'll accept it. That's just the type of person he is. These studies being done are awesome!

  • smacked in the face with new evidence is frightening, but also kind of amusing at the same time, let's face it.

  • LMAO at the split screen of Jillian and Taubes at 5:03. Jillian makes an unscientific claim and is about to back it up emotional, non-scientific drivel... Taubes' expression says "Oh God, this is going to be good." Too funny. I find it amazing how incapable the so-called health and nutritional experts today are of applying even basic 6th grade logic and the scientific method. The fact that the health community messed up something so basic so badly, yet refuse to change their beliefs when

  • I can't believe after all these years the critics still say that Atkins is "no carbs." And they're doing the same thing here also to Taubes regarding his comments on exercise. Atkins was saying TOO MANY carbs make many of us fat. Taubes is saying here that exercise is NOT THE MAJOR FACTOR in fat loss. It's too bad people can't listen to these statements without twisting them into "no carbs" and "no exercise." It's ridiculous, really. They just aren't even listening.

  • She still looked fat?

  • counting calories is redundant. i notice in your diet, with the exception of the rice (which is at least brown and not processed), that it is low carbohydrate content pretty much as gary is suggesting. you can see how counting the calories there is superfluous...

  • okay watching this video just made me so fucking mad. these fucking 4 jokers are talking over taubes and he is being so patient. If i was him i would have bitch slapped these fools. This chick on biggest loser lost 100 lbs yet is still fat, the host is fat, dr.oz is a crock of bs and jillian michaels prob exercises 3 hrs a day to burn all the carbs she eats in a day. if youre gonna have him on the shower let the man speak not gang up on him

  • I lost 50 pounds in 8 months without exercise.

Because I am disabled, I sat all day. I ate mostly brown rice. I ate bout 6 -8 eggs a day with yoke. Ate some meat but no cheese. No vegetables. No soda. Very little junk food. No bread. I COUNTED my calories.

    It was easy.

  • The only thing I find disagreeable about Taubes is the exercise, though he's correct that exercise does not directly lose weight, men building more muscle will not only see less shag in their skin when the weight comes off as happens a lot for people losing massive weight, muscle, requiring more energy, burns fat quicker. A proper paleo diet with high vegetables, fruits, and protein, doesn't really require a calorie count. If you're eating lots of vegetables, your apetite will be curbed quick.

  • dude this debate is such bullshit. it's a quack doctor and a tv show physical trainer, and a fat host, all 3 of whom agree with the establishment and are just hammering Taubes and interrupting him. the guy had no chance to get his msg across to ambivalent americans. it pisses me off that the ppl who are wrong are so confident about themselves

  • also the 5-6 meals/day is pure bullshit. read MASTERING LEPTIN, eating often fucks up your insulin and metabolism, esp with regards to your liver function. you wanna eat 3 meals, when u wake and not hrs before bed.

  • actually im against high fat diets IF you're overweight. if you're obese, follow a moderate fat Paleolithic diet until you're thin. u DON'T need alot of fat since you're trying to burn your own. once you're thin and at an ideal weight, you can eat more animal fat

  • The satiety of fat and protein consumption satisfies anyone who actually eats it... it's impossible not to... that's the only thing I disagree with from Andrew Weil.

oh and oz is a dumbass...

  • LCHF rules! (low carb high fat) When you eat to little fat you eat to much carbs.

Carbs (sugar, potatoes, pasta, bred, cerials) = high bloodsugar = high insulin = store fat

When people think real fat (like butter) is bad they get fat.

A lot of people in Sweden knows this.

  • 3 quacks on one program. Wow Doctor OZ actually looks like the smart guy wow

  • I've been following a minimized carbohydrate diet for the past eight years. I started at 220 pounds, but now i maintain at about 158 pounds. I've maintain about 6% body fat consistantly. I control my insulin levels all day everyday. So easy, even the cavemen did it.

  • @ultimatebjj Anecdote

  • @dharmesha12: whatevs! gary taubes knows what he is talking about..after 6 weeks of eating eggs, bacon and sausages instead of wheats i've lost 2 pant's sizes but kept mass without increasing my exercise! proof is in the proverbial pudding. please, do not refer to him as a 'douchebag' again...

oh and just for reference i do still eat fruit, vegetables and whole oats :)

  • most biggest loser participants gained it all back.

  • I think it's absolutely disgusting how Behar keeps jumping in on Oz's side and interrupting Taubes.

  • hungry after working out? What makes the difference is when you're hungry is what you eat, and how much. Small meals and snacks often satisfy that extra hunger and keep metabolism high. Jill and oz are right. Insulin is a hormone that plays a big role but it's not the only damn hormone. HGH burns through fat especially after heavy weight lifting. Cardio burns calories like crazy. Taubes has to defend his book cause he has to sell it. Carbs are only 1 part of a whole.

  • "Poppy" is probably fat again.

  • Jilian is another maniac fitness nut...look how defensive she got. She was missing the point. Exercise is beneficial for other reasons than weight loss. Only when you change your diet does the weight come off. And any sane person is always hungry after a workout..its your body trying to replenish itself. She's not seeing the big picture.

  • gary taubes is a douchebag

  • can someone create an up to date atkins diet then, since the 40 year old version is too old? the current atkins website and books don't count. those don't stay true to the original plan. we need a cross between the original atkins and what this gary guy says.

  • 0:48....... PWNED!!!!! HAHAHAHA

  • Dumb. I've lost 40 lbs doing paleo. Carbs and sugar are the devil. I agree with both sides to an extent. But Garys points are very logical

  • that lady is horrible there are plenty of success stories on the paleo diet, even many that have reverse diseases, and i am starving everytime i work out wow!

  • They don't even let him finish anything. Everyone just so stuck in their own beliefs it's stupid. Hell, i don't know who's right here but take a moment to hear the guy out. Such childishness.

  • @RazClaw Biggest mouth always wins :(

  • "Your theory falls short when applied because... I've applied it" Yes, your personal anecdote certainly trumps that randomised clinical trial he was just telling you about. Sigh.

  • I would also strongly recommend all Gary Taubes fans to go watch Dr. Scott Connelly's video series on Insulin, it's fantastic and is bang on the same lines that Taubes talks about.

    Google it.

  • 2000 calories, sorry for the mistype.

  • Haha check that bitch feeling all pround about her weight loss, she's still a fat c*nt.

Bottom line is if you are morbidly overweight, it would be impossible to just cut out all carbs from the diet even over a number of weeks due to how screwed your hormones are.

Results trump dogma any day, I can eat near on 3000 calories of tasty high fat high protein foods with no carbs and drop the *fat* (NOT WEIGHT) off like a knife through butter.

Yet struggle on an iso caloric diet of 200 cals....

  • Gary is an idiot. The fitness coach from the Biggest Loser owned him. It just shows that exercise DOES burn calories and DOES help lose weight. Don't listen to this guy. If you're going to listen to him, then I would pay attention to limiting carbs. That's about it. Gary said that sugar is worse than cigarettes? WHAT A IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!! How to lose weight... Drink water, exercise, consume vitamins and BCAAs/Protein, eat lower carb, rest, repeat!

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with the calorie principle, but saying working out doesn't raise apetite is bs. Exercise releases some hormones that bring apetite down, and some hormones that raise apetite. I think it's different from person to person. But if you increase say, testosterone, you will increase aptite a lot. look at guys in the middle of a steroid cycle and how they eat! they're hungry 24/7

  • From star Magazine: "Intentional dehydration? Manipulated filming schedules? Diuretics? “Oh absolutely!” Jillian tells Star in our Jan. 25 issue on sale now. “There is a lot of game playing that goes on. The Biggest Loser is a game show. It is what it is.”

That shows u can't trust her, she's just a puppet being told what to do and say.

Look for: biggest losers dirty little secrets on google.

  • Comment removed

  • @Kaede069 i can't trust some piece of jersey trash on a tv game show? the hell you say!

  • Fuck that!!! South Bronx Paradise/Parasite Baby!!

  • YOU CAN NOT STORE PROTEIN AS FAT!!!!!!!

  • @premium1823 yes u can

  • Haha that trainer got ripped so hard!

  • Oh and a fun side story. Taubes revealed afterwards he shared a carb with this woman from the biggest loser who reveals all the contestants put the weight back on as they couldnt keep up the inane exercise levels or reduced calorie intake. Would be a fun edit to add to Julians nonsense.....

  • This lecture will be watched in 100 years and people will laugh that Oz and Julian Michaels were given such time

  • @Donal277 No. That is exactly how I lost 150lbs. Following what Oz and Julian said.

  • @Bestmoviealive Your missing my point. Studies have shown you can lose weight on many different diets. And with varying the exercise amount. Its not that you cant. Its not surprising you did lose weigh if you followed them. However nor does it mean they are entirely correct. Julian has no idea about anything in this field. Her information in this video is just lies. While Oz has many issues to address - such as his advocacy for grains as healthy. There is some research which is concerning.

  • this is very interesting, i think taubes is completely on the ball.

off topic, but doesnt oprah endorse dr oz....hmmm. i feel confident in saying that if oprah adopted a primal/paleo diet, she would never have a weight problem ever again.

  • Jillian Michaels is a blithering idiot.

  • I find it hilarious,

that Jillian Michaels is lecturing Gary Taubes on Thermodynamics... Gary Taubes has an undergraduate from HARVARD in Physics. Bahahahahaha

  • When I was younger, I ate low-fat, became vegetarian even vegan, exercised my butt off and would be thrown off by introducing even a cup of juice into my diet. In retrospect I quite evidently have a predisposition to "insulin sensitivity". The only thing that worked w/o my entire life being consumed by diet & exercise was low-carb. I lost weight even w/o exercise. Dr. Oz nor jillian address the nagging Q?: why malnourished ppl are Obese. Taubes makes key points, unanswered by current paradigm.

  • Taubes is right!!! Sumo wrestlers don't eat alot of fat, all you see them eating is rice!! and they're freakin huge!!

What do people feed pigs and cows to get them fat? not fattty foods, they just give them grain!!! CARBS!! and the FDA is telling is to eat mostly grain to lose weight????

  • Jillian Micheals should just shut up and listen to Taubes and Oz, Why the hell did Joyce even include this idiot to comment? She does even have a college degree and for her to discuss biochemistry and thermodynamic with Taubes is a total joke and a complete waste of airtime. I wanted to hear more from Taubes, not this bimbo. We get enough of her garbage on late night infomercials.

  • One I've lost weight 20 pounds, and I gained 10 pounds of muscle by not eating carbs, and not exercising. I lift weights just to be buff, not to lose fat. I have a blog, a fitness blog on my youtube channel.

A note for the people that lost weight on the show sure they lost weight but I'm sure that in one year they'll be back as fat. I've seen it happen too many times at the gym. Another thing the weight gainer called ,Serious Mass, for people that want to gain fat, consists of carbs not fat.

  • Everyone who agrees with Gary are probably lazy people who don't want to workout. It's obvious that building muscle burns fat. You're not going to get all toned without working out. You think Adrian Peterson just cut carbs to get so buff? LOL. My uncle is super fit when he broke his leg he got pretty fat because he couldn't workout, once he got back healthy he got back in shape. Only thing he changed was working out.

  • @TommyTonic10 For many people being super cut is not the goal - health is. Funny how you say something can't work based on a group of people who reportedly never tried it.

  • @gphx Yeah you are right, but you will hear from me again.

  • Comment removed

  • @gphx I already said you're right you want me to say it again? You got me over a barrel, there you happy? You got me bent over a barrel with my tender ass just waiting to be pulverized by your threshing manhood.

  • @TommyTonic10 Oops. I misinterpreted the latter part of your post. Mine has been removed. Thanks for tolerating my brain vacation with grace and humor.

  • Taubes owns the fitness bimbo.

  • I lost 45lbs in 5 months last year by following a low-carb lifestyle. I did that without any exercise.

  • Juilian... You wanna see somebody that is 50lbs less and looks leaner than before on a low/no carb diet (Thanks to Gary Taubes) and 20minutes of weight lifting... Look at my video before you start advertising your bull crap products... I drank diet pepsi non stop and still till this day an eat saturated fat all day... It only took a month and a half for real results...

  • i can't stand jillian michaels, she is a sales woman, not a scientist or doctor. The woman that lost the weight worked out 3 hours a day! that is nonsense for the average person, so of course she lost weight at 3 hours a day....the point gary is trying to make is that if you just cut out the carbs, you wouldn't need to work out so extensively.

  • My girlfriend and I switched from the typical high-carb diet to a high fat/protein, low carb way of eating about 8 months ago.

She has lost 40lbs so far and I have gained muscle mass while losing fat. She does almost no exercise, I lift weights 3x a week, and we eat until we're full.

Keep fighting the good fight Gary, more and more people are realizing the damage that the recommended diet is doing to our bodies. Eventually, it will be accepted as common knowledge!

  • @Destorrrrr My experience is the same, 40 pounds in one month, moderate exercise, eating like a pig. In addition to losing 40 pounds my blood glucose is down 100 points and my blood pressure is down 30. Eating according to the USDA food pyramid as Gillian and Oz support is what got me into trouble in the first place. If you don't eat protein or fat you die. If you don't eat carbs your liver manufactures all you need from fat. My body has simply switched to burning fat as it was designed to.

  • Gary is right! I stopped eating carbs and started eating saturated fats and worked-out 20 minutes a day and well... Check out my video's and find out what one month can do

  • @ednuts09 Wow, nice results for one month! I wish I got on this diet when I was your age. Now I am playing catch-up. At least I just keep getting better. I wish I had some better before pictures now that my waist has gone from about a 34 to a 31. Keep it up and spread the word. From what I can tell, there are more and more fat and out-of-shape young people who really need this diet.

  • My wife lost 100 lbs too, and I've lost 96 lbs, and we only took leisurely walks, but slow carbs.

  • Sure Poppy lost 100 pounds, cheers to her, but (and I know being on TV adds 10 pounds) she still looks overweight.

  • Think of the fitness coach as the frontline hands on worker that applies the theories she's been taught in the real world and has witnessed the real world results. Think of Gary Taubes as the educated in theory scholar (like so many out of work educated bums) that holds dear to what science is telling him must be true. Dr. OZ is also one practicing in the real world. Maybe one day Gary Taubes will join the real world.

  • garys knowledge was obtained from real world experiments. and many have applied his research and have lost lots of weight. this comment, talking about theory and holding science dear, makes you sound like an anti intellectual, thus an idiot.

  • yeah...right Jillian....exercise doesn't make you hungry! No need to be dishonest and overstate your own position. I bet Poppi was "poppin" carbs a plenty when she got huge.....not meat and eggs

  • yeah...right Jillian....exercise doesn't make you hungry! No need to be dishonest and overstate your own position.

  • god that host is annoying

  • As a professional strength and conditioning coach who has worked with countless professionals, doctors, nutritionists and RDs, i can assure you that Taubes and Michaels are both disgraces to the health and fitness industry

  • What Jillian does on the biggest loser does work. Go to Marine Corp Boot camp and you will get a similar workout. I did. I lost 80lbs. But you know after getting done with the Marines I gained all of it back. I lost the weight because I put myself in a situation that I had to loose the weight. I could not do it by myself.

I have lost 50lbs in the last 2yrs, but I have been stuck for about 6 months. I am going to give this a shot.

  • @weekscorp Um, you are proving Taubes right and Michaels wrong. Don't you get that Taubes is presenting that calorie number-restricting diets don't work in the long term? There is a reason why everyone on the "Biggest Loser" regains a lot of their weight. Because this exercise + low calorie and low fat does not work in the long term! Hence your personal example!

  • Doctors and industry that churn out the bull shit must be shitting themselves now that Gary Taubes has opened the flood gates of truth about Carbohydrates!

  • 6:15 "Your theory falls short when applied because I've applied it."

But, contrary to her marketing claims, Jillian Michaels has never been successful. All of her clients fail to lose fat long-term: en. wikipedia. org/wiki/ The_Biggest_Loser_(season_3)

  • jillian was right about the hormones about exercise, but I think taubes is the one who was more accurate with nutrition...

  • does oz think that the amish eat low fat cream, milk or butter? and uhhhh hate toe this guy but poppi is still fat...

  • Taubes nails it.

  • Where in nature do you find a lean cow working out 2-3 hours a day and dieting to stay lean? Enough said.

  • i am amazed to see such overwhelming support to taubes !! I disagree with him i experimented with my own body and no carb is no solution its just calorie in vs out and exercise simple as that

  • @shanighias ive lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks listening to taubes advice, my former footbal coach lost 20 pounds since christmas following taubes advice. with diet and exercise i could lose about a pound a week now im losing several pounds a week and my high fat diet has done wonders for my weight lifting

  • @bobdylan4evr every one is unique it might worked for your two it didn't worked for me in long term...

  • Joy Behar just loves the sound of her own voice. Wish she'd shut up and let someone complete a sentence.

  • This is capitalism vs truth. How sad :( I support you Taubes.

  • taubes is the man

  • While I agree with most of what Gary states, I found that Jillian's point of view is also solid. I found that I want to eat LESS after exercising. Plus, there's lots of evidence that exercise alone can help you lose weight and get fit. Just search for P90x-rarely do peope follow their diet plans because they're pretty damn difficult to calculate. Another point that nobody takes into account is the mind-body connection.Everyone sees what they what to see.I wish there was smo who could sum it up.

  • @SamArt90

If you have had an issue with weight u should try that theory then eat whatever you want and just exercise and see how much weight u lose. When Gary says exercise doesn't work he is pointing at cardiovascular exercise in particular and you can try it yourself, your weight-loss will be slim to none if u don't follow a good diet, and that's what he is saying exercise doesn't help you lose weight.

  • TAUBES FOR PRESIDENT

  • All the arguments from the so called experts are extremely primitive. Dr. wizard of OZ gets all upset when Gary drops the bomb and says his beloved medical community is at fault. Yeah sure you've got all the answers buddy, that's why there no obesity problem. Betcha that woman will be fatter than ever in 2 years time. This is a bad place to be for Gary with all these air heads, the guy can't even talk for f*ck sake.

  • this channel is SO GOOD! Dude, you are doing a great job, keep it up!

  • Poor Gary, in all these things he always has so much to say and no time to say it. Jillian is partially right about the few beneficial hormones released in exercise like growth hormone and testosterone. T is very very good for men who want to lose weight, if they are low in T and high in Estrogen it's a MUST to reverse this. Weight training is essential. But as far as diet, Gary has the spotlight, insulin has to be controlled, period.

  • GARY Taubes is BRILLIANT!!

  • Wow....it is like everyone is ganging up on Gary Taubes. I have lost nearly 60 pounds following the advice from Gary Taubes, and personally believe all of his conclusions. It is the insulin and carbs that are making us fat!!! The science backs it up and there are many of us out here that have personally proven this point. Why didn't this Show get someone that has lost 200 pounds on Low Carb on the show? There are many out here!

The debate was very disjointed and unorganized.

  • Joy is too stupid to intellectually grasp Taubes viewpoint. And so is Jillian, debating hormonal response to exercise with a being who graduated from Stanford, Harvard and wrote a 500 page book on the metabolic response to the presence of insulin. Jesus is Jillian stupid, she's a personal trainer with a very fundamental understanding and practical knowledge, but not on the level with Taubes in any way, shape or form. Bitch should shut up and be glad she has a tv show.

  • The fitness coach did a few weeks of nutrition training and thinks she knows because what she was taught is gospel to her. Gary shows how this equation is simply wrong and ridiculous. To think she can even compete intellectually on a discussion about the complex biological factors in fat regulation with Gary (or Oz for that matter) is laughable at best.

  • @Esoparagon haha just listen to the shit pouring out of this broad's mouth. it's so hard to listen to people when they aren't aware they're the dumbest person in the room.

  • @Esoparagon The equation is not wrong but you can question some logical conclutions we make. For example that working out is essential in loosing weight or that we should try to eat less.

  • @typeclash Well yeah, the equation is necessarily true but it says nothing about the biochemistry of fat deposition and regulation and in short how the human body gets fat and loses fat.

  • the Biggest Loser coach is an idiot. honestly i know the truth, trying to explain it to the masses is like explaining to a fool, the fool thinks you're foolish! so fuck them, if they don't want to listen i don't care. i'm healthy and i feel great.

i don't ever starve or even limit my self when i have an appetite. i simply eat a lower carb diet and eat to my heart's content. done it for the past 5yrs. its almost like too good to be true! thank you Gary Taube (and Metabolic Typing)

  • man this woman is so fucking biased towards Oz. she shamelessly interrupts Taubes when he's trying to make a point

  • As someone who's been working out regularly for years and years I can't beleive this lady is saying that excercise suppresses appetites. What garbage.

  • if you over eat 100 calories a day youll be fat in like a YEAR obviosly it is the carbs cuz a 2000 calorie diet is a fuck load of food

  • I feel so bad for Taubes sitting there trying to defend himself against two people (Oz and that stupid woman from Biggest Loser) who do not know what they are talking about and use anecdotal data to try and debunk his sound argument (which is backed up by actual research!)

  • the problem with this is that they all have some good points but their approach to debate is VERY disorganized. They jump from valid to invalid point, from opinion to logic and from fact to theory. These shows do a disservice to the public by confusing people and leaving them to their own devices... which is usually just going back to what they have been doing.

  • Jullian... /facepalm

  • These guys need to talk with Charles Poliquin.

  • @HughPeters1 YES, Robb needs to get on TV.

  • I've lost over a 100 pounds, here, com take me. Damn make up'd bitch.

You're awesome gary rock on! LCHF saved my life.

  • they bring up three things that taubes claim on this show, which is;

carbs give you alzheimers - and yes, an excess might.

you look the way you look and you can't change that - no, you might be more or less sensitive to carbs though.

you won't get lean by exercising - well. to get lean-er you need a negative calorie balance, exercise creates that.

  • this is B.S.. I got ripped by eliminating grains! Very little exercise. I agree with Gary!
