  • You seem like a really good dude, and good teacher to boot.

  • @no0neiv Thanks.

  • cool vids - really detailed and easy to understand

  • @donray2 Glad you like them.

  • I am a guitarist, but have become a bassest to fill spots in two bands. I have been trying to learn new tricks on the bass and this has been one of the easier videos I have seen in regards to explanation and theory to actual finger work. Most guys who are doing teaching videos move way to fast, and I am no beginer at the guitar either, I have been playing for over 15 years now. Keep up the good work.

  • You are easily the most thorough music teacher on YT.

  • I love how he noodles in between sentences.

  • Thank you! Im a newbie, playin in church now but need plenty of help. Now to go watch the rest of your videos.

  • Wow!! These videos been here all this time and I just found them. Thanks for connecting the dots for a lot of us. Sure alot of guys can play great bass but the surely don't have a clue about teaching and and they try...you convey all the aspects so well leaving no gaps for confusion for us. I've move forward by strides in just a few videos explaining things others leave out. thank you . And please do not stop...because I believe if you don't continue...we may never get much further.

  • @HomeBuyersofOhio, I am so glad these videos help.

  • same intervals as mr brown by bob marley

  • @cadillackeith1 Glad you liked it.

  • thanks for the demos- i have a friend who plays bass and im going to recommend you vids to him

  • @MrDAVE420247 Thanks.

  • Hey how does the number system works im a little lost there at that point

  • @dzipperu Give each sequential note in the scale a number, 1-7. So the first note is 1, the second is 2 and so on...

    In the key of C:

    C=1, D=2, E=3, F=4, G=5, A=6, B=7

  • Hey how does the number system works im a little lost there at that point

  • That was a great lesson and well explaned. Your method was effective. You helped to clear the cobb webs for me. I am newbie on the bass and music theory. I appreciate the slow pace at which you communicated and demonstrated this lesson. Please continue to teach / instruct in this manner.

    1) It was not too fast.

    2) Your finger movement was not excessively fast.

3)You stated what you were going to do before doing it.

Please continue to do more of these.

  • @koffiie Thanks for the comments koffie, they are well recieved and appreciated.

I will strive to keep those 3 elements in future videos.

  • thanks for talking about resolution in music.. and tension being the adder the further you get from the root. That's a good way to look at and alot ofpeople dont know things like that.

    Kinds Regards From Matthijs

  • Cool stuff, Torch7. Thanks!

  • the 1-4-5 progression really helps alot in hillsong style worship, believe it or not, especially on the fast songs-when i use i the most..

and a song that uses 1-4-5 is till i see you by matt redman, the keyboard line in the beginning uses it..

    thnkx and God bless;

  • I really liked your video and your channel. If you need any help getting this video or channel exposed I use a site called tubeviews.(net) It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position. God Bless!

Wow, I have to say, this Video is unique!

  • I just recently started playing for a church.

Before that I actually played slap and pop style in a metal band lol and always played by ear and so I am also in the process of learning how to play notes and all that. My question to you is this: Do you think you can make a video showing your finger work warm ups for I'm having some problems with my fret bored hand.

    -J-

  • Hey man, hope your left hand finger work is developing! I recommend something called 'the spider' - spread your fingers to one finger per fret (if you struggle with this stretch at the moment try it high up on the neck, as your left hand develops try it lower down). Then play this finger pattern: 1,3,2,4,3,1,4, 2. You can then start spreading it over more strings to work it further. This will promote good finger strength and independence. Hope this helps!

  • my birthday!!

  • That's a good explanation of using the root note to move from chord 2 chord. Now, how would u suggest 2 connect these root notes?

  • Thanks.

  • I've noticed that the best bass tone I've ever heard has come from gospel music played in predominately african-american churches. Whenever I hear a gospel song like this one, the bass guitar tone is BOOMING with awesome tone and power. What is the secret behind this bass sound? Is it compression?

  • I think it is attributed to a few things... First Gospel bass players would have to contend with the Organ in so many traditonal churches. So Fingerstyle, and boosting the lower frequencies a tad, and the mids to cut through the mix are a good place to start. I have not seen many people in church environments use compression, certainly this may be the case with Studio work. I would say the majority of the tone is in the touch though.

  • ive been playing for four years and have gotten pretty good but unable to get anyone to teach me any music theory. ive tried getting tons of others to explain this to me but none of them could make it clear to me. thanks dude keep it up, what is the website?

  • hi, I'm not a complete expert or anything but I know quite a bit of theory. Feel free to ask any questions if you need it. God bless

  • good teach

  • Glad you enjoyed it.

  • One of the best lesson on youtube...your metaphor for tension really helped!

  • Thanks for the positive feedback. I appreciate it.

  • are 2-5-1's ever used in gospel? I'm a jazz person soo...

  • Yes, jazzdog2..

251 turn-a-rounds are also popular in Gospel Music. Gospel is becoming a very generic term, as far as the music goes, because there are multiple sub-genres... some of which have a heavy jazz influence.

1-6-2-5-1 is a popular progression. Quite a few songs we minister at church are in that progression... oddly enough I can only remember a few names of the tunes, but can hear them in my head right now... :)

  • oh yeah definitely... that has jazz influence... definitely out of a rhthym chord changes tune

  • that was great thank you!!!

  • Thanks.

  • I'M LOST LOL

  • 1st take a look at the lessons on Major Scale, then the lesson on intervals. That will help.

  • Good lesson torch!

  • thank you sir

  • No Problem.

  • You helped me alot. Thx brother! Glory to God!

  • thanks help alot.

  • how about that! i don't play the bass, but the guitar. i'm a female kinda new to guitar, this gives me something to work on. i'll play the I,IV,V of a scale tone and then arpeggio the I, III, V of each chord, right? thanks for making that very simple and clear to understand.

  • Correct

  • man you are awesome in teaching....i learn so much...i look forward to learning more from ya...im just a lil kuntry boy from mississippi.....tryn 2 glorify God in my bass!!
