My clearest memory of Close was in the early 80s when a crazed man took over the studio and forced Close to read a rambling statement (don't remember what it was about) before giving himself up.

Bill Close always gave me the feeling he was talking down to me. He had such a high opinion of himself - I just did not choose his News 10 very often... Ray Thompson on Ch. 12 was just the opposite - Mister Personality plus...

I grew up in Mesa. Left in 1984 and have never been back. Watching these clips is like going home!
