I live in Texas now, but hearing this jingle just makes me happy and puts me in the Christmas mood. Reminds me of my high school and college days in Oklahoma, very happy times! So glad they never saw the need to update the jingle.
I lived in Okc for 28 years and heard the commercial every year. I moved out of Okc and I missed the commercial. Had to find it on youtube just to hear it again!
Thank you so much....it made me smile. I'm just your average army boy overseas this season. Anyways....this made me smile and remember home. I owe ya.
This is my first holiday season away from Oklahoma (Norman to be exact) and I REALLY do not feel like it's time for Christmas w/o hearing this song. Hence why I am on here listening to it.
I know how you feel. When I first moved away from Norman, OK my friend and I would sing this jingle to each other to '"start" the Christmas holiday season,. You can download the ringtone at the BC Clark website/
Point should be made, this jingle was written likely in the '50s (I'd have to do some research to make sure the exact story behind the song, I want to say it was during this decade and may of been a contest for the people of Oklahoma City to write it). Speaks volumes to the power of a catchy jingle for great marketing...we're still singing it and it's become a part of OKC history! Happy holidays to all!
I had a friend who moved here from MS and last year told her you know its Christmas in OK when you hear this song. She looked at me funny so her boyfriend and I started singing it. lol
OMG I love this commercial...you know its Christmas when you start hearing this on TV....anyone who doesnt like it is messed up in the head....and yes I know someone who doesnt like it and I play this just to irritate her cause its awesome :-)
I don't know where I read this--maybe in the Oklahoma Gazette, some years ago--but I read an anecdote where a mortally wounded soldier in the Middle East asked his comrade, a fellow Okie, to sing the BC Clark jingo to him as he lay dying. Sounds pretty fishy, when you think about it, but I can't help laughing.
thank you so much for posting this! i originally lived in okc and moved to chicago several years ago. trying to explain and sing the jingle to my boyfriend did not fully do it justice. now he can see and hear it for himself!
This is when it is officially the Christmas season in Oklahoma. It's been said a zillion times, but that's just because it's true. When you first hear this on your radio, the lights become brighter and the air becomes crisper and your heart turns over. :D
I moved to OKC in '99 and people looked at me funny when I did not know the words to this Oklahoma Christmas classic. Needless to say I learned it way before X-Mas and love the song to this day.
It means a lot to me too! I arranged, performed, produced and mixed the audio version that has been playing since 1977. This year marks my 30th anniversary being involved with the classic. I am so proud! (I was really, really young when I did it.) I am playing the piano and bells.
OMG you so rock for posting this. Living outside Oklahoma now Christmas was just not the same.
