There are hundreds of organizations who provide food for people in poor regions of the world, Africa being one of those regions, and so many aid workers (many of them Christian) have been forced to leave because opposing religious factions hate that they are providing relief to suffering people there. I have many friends who have seen it with their own eyes, and I read eye witness reports from people I know personally of the situation in parts of Africa. No mention of "free markets" or subsides.

FDR did not stop the depression. His 1st and 2nd New Deal both ultimately failed. What lifted America out of their depression was the international crisis and a huge public spending campaign combined with a massive contribution from ordinary people towards the war effort. Now that point is not debateable...take it from me, a history teacher and an expert on this subject. It is a fact.

@nerubenj When the French banned our beef I decided to ban two items which wouldn't affect me. Wine and Cheese. They didn't affect me as there is so many choices in these areas.
Unfortunately for the French, I discovered so many other great wines from other countries which were even more economical, as I did with cheese.
Now years later, I seldom buy French wines or cheese.

1 - Most of the red tape in this country has been introduced by the labour government, not the EU.
2 - Whilst the locking out of the develping world is a disgrace, it isn't quite that simple as the EU can't remove its tarriffs unless the US also agrees to, else the only country that would benefit would be the US.

1) more famines as there will be less food

There are hundreds of organizations who provide food for people in poor regions of the world, Africa being one of those regions, and so many aid workers (many of them Christian) have been forced to leave because opposing religious factions hate that they are providing relief to suffering people there. I have many friends who have seen it with their own eyes, and I read eye witness reports from people I know personally of the situation in parts of Africa. No mention of "free markets" or subsides.

While the subsidized farmers hold the food they've grown in silos waiting for the prices to go up so they can make more money, people in Africa are still starving. The people who are starving do not starve because of the free market. there is a large difference between subsidies and tariffs, which make up the majority of EU trade barriers against 3rd world countries. Tariffs act to protect EU farmers jobs whilst preventing those LEDC from selling their cheaper, more efficiently produced products and lifting themselves out of poverty.

A small fact may have been lost here. The majority of food produced in the EU is not subsidized at farm level. Farmers get paid for looking after the environment, and thats it, folks. Look up 'decoupled payments'. The environmental payments are per acre. Now,here's a real laugh...just get a quotation from the Local Council to look after an acre of land in the way that farmers are required to....the taxpayer has a bargain.

When Iceland was a socialist country only a few decades ago, the standard of living was ranked in the 50s. Ever since its economic liberalisation in the 90s, it has become the country with the highest standard of living. No, the wealth created was due to economic liberalisation. The economic crisis was due to Iceland's state-run central bank inflating the money supply. Ever since central banking was implemented, it has caused recessions from artificially inflating the money supply. Prior to this and fractional-reserve banking, recessions and depressions never occurred. I doubt though you care about this fact. You seem to busy wallowing in your own insecurity. FDR did not stop the depression. His 1st and 2nd New Deal both ultimately failed. What lifted America out of their depression was the international crisis and a huge public spending campaign combined with a massive contribution from ordinary people towards the war effort. Now that point is not debateable...take it from me, a history teacher and an expert on this subject. It is a fact.

No it did not. The USA joined the war in the end of 1941 when unemployment had already reached 5%. FDR did end the depression both in terms of recovering economic growth and of reducing unemployment. Infact he took over an economy that had been put back 20 years and grew it back to the point before the depression in 7 years. It is myth that he started or increased the depression do not fall for such lies.
