omg.....this was it for me....lil-ass country kid listening to my Daddy's ol' country stuff...then my big bro said hey lil shit listen to this!....wow...he turned me to the dark side!.....hahaha ....and from then on....wow....im a hard rockn'...blues player...i love my big bro!
It's funny but when I hear a song for the first time in a long time, as in the case of In A Gadda Da Vida, it's like I'm hearing it for the very first time. I was born in 1950 and I remember listening to this song back in the late 60s with a bunch of friends whom I haven't seen in a long time. But the memories kept coming back to me the more I listen to this song now. One of my all time favorites.
@niceboyz77 hahaha. well, it almost is. I read the lead singer was so smashed that he was actually trying to say " in the garden of eden", however band mates thought his drunken slur was far more catchy.
This song was written by one of the original members of the band, Darryl DeLoach, in the Clairemont area of San Diego. I used to listen to them practice in his garage.
@beatleforce1 Yeah, I was in the same Cub Scout Pack with him and my mom was one of the Den Mothers. Darryl later became a restauranteur in the San Diego area. He passed away about 6 or 7 years ago.
@Bomerlunder I think EVERYONE over 50 has "made" out to this track it's to do with the runtime, same as Bolero.and Stairway to Heaven = no having to change records halfway through the "act"
@Bomerlunder If this was a mymn it would be one of my favorites and if they have a person playing a piano or organ in church i would love to slip this song in there book to see if they play it lol
My dad, born in 49, had mentioned this being one of his favorite songs. I never really understood it, it was definitely different but I never thought it was that great. Then after getting ripped on a pretty frequent basis, I came across this song again..... "DAD DAD I GET IT NOW, THIS IS THE BEST SONG EVER"
If you've never listened to this song stoned, you've never heard this song. It is a masterpiece without equal.
@RhinoAts51 Its the best way.....I tried to share this song with my granddaughter, I told her how it was one of the greats....She cried in the middle of it because I wouldn't turn it off.
This song. This song. This song. I used to babysit for a family across the street. They had an older son who was into Iron Butterfly. I would sneak and play his records. It was NEVER THE SAME for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL :-)
Desde que la escuché por primera vez allá por el 69 ó 70 pensé que estos tipos estaban explorando la música a través del Rock.Esta grabación es inmortal.
@Evi1doomnerd ha funny... whole song could induce indulgence on a massive scale... doesn't just need the drums... the song itself is a masterpiece. you got the best comment ever. !!
@SongsByTheBeatles try to remember, back in that day, many of the " Non - Conformist " bands were relegated to the worst form of broadcasting ever. The FM band (for radios) or the UHF channels ( for television ). If you've ever been to A car show with cars from those days, you'll notice they have AM ONLY radio, FM being A Russian invention. UHF is now what ALL broadcast TV is. so we're all bad kids! now go get your spanking!
'yo Xers,&Ys,this tune is the ''Best Psychadelic Rock Tune'',ever !!!...so if ya want some instant gradifacation, turn your' good friends'on to this...and also to the Vanilla Fudge version of ''You Keep Me Hangin' On''and Earth Opera's ''TheGreat American Eagle Tragety'' [hard to find] they all came out 'bout the same time...
when i was a little kid, my parents used to play this song and it would scare the living hell out of me. i look back now and realize this is an unbelievable song but it still scares the shit out of me. haha
Like the song and all, but the drum solo is not as great as people make it out to be. Not taking anything away from the guy or saying i can do better(or even come close for that matter) but it's over rated
@internetjunk1 it`s not about how great the drum solo was it was something different at the time .it is iconic of that generation. So it isn`t over rated as far as i`m concerned .But it does evoke great memories for me from that time in high school.
@internetjunk1 If you can do better, as you say you can, post one!! Please! I love drum solos, show us what you can do! You said you could do better, I believe you, so I'm calling your bluff... SHOW US!! I am an old guitar player , if you post a video playing the drum solo, backing up what you say, then we can make a million seller album!!! Gold!! Ooops, are you there? Gonna show us or not??
@internetjunk1 Overrated in terms of what? Skill...? It's obviously not the the most technical drum solo, but it's nice to listen to and just flows perfectly with the song. Stairway to Heaven isn't the most technical guitar solo by a mile, yet it's widely praised by everyone because it SOUNDS good, just like this drum solo.
Yes, this song goes back to the day, and I heard tell that this song is about some young gal being buried alive in the Garden of Eden, but then again, who knows.
@chuckbyf1 I used to have this solo down pat (it's really not that difficult). Anyway, I played a little of it during a lull on our last gig and the audience remembered & loved it! Now we're practicing the song :-)
Love it back in it's day & still love it today ,You don't need to be stoned to listen to this .... But it helps (: What happened??? it didn't finished the song , DAMMMM no wonder the 10 don't like it , it just faded out w/o finishing, maybe I'll have to join the 10 dislikes although I already voted like.

@ksherwuker1 WELCOME HOME, my Brother. I returned from Nam in April '68, after fifteen months in country. I brought back some quality Vietnamese Herb. Me and my friend were sitting in my '57 Chevy, when we heard In-A Gadda Da Vida for the first time. There are not many words to describe the combination of feelings that the Iron Butterfly and great Sativa can do to sooth the restless Soul. I wish all my Brothers and Sisters much Love. And I pray for all to consider Ron Paul, Liberty and U.S.A
I listened to this while I ran/walked during the military. Sometimes the pace was a little slow, but it made you keep on going. Love it Love it Love....especially the full length version!!!! Never gets old.......
I,m old now, but seeing them live was the highlight of my life in 1970--71 (cannot recall for sure)....I was only 17 fuck!!!!!!!!!!.....perhaps 18.....seems like a lifetime ago...Thanks for posting this...
'60's Buzz music. The keyboards, rythym and that Fuzz lead guitar are outta sight. Another bowl of hash and listening to that Lead guitar from 3:28 on makes you move up into the clouds.Oh yeah, do I remember this! A friend of mine was in 'Nam' and listenend to this while he was on guard out on the "wire" in Tay Ninh province. I asked if he threw flowers on the enemy.
Ciao
Sorry, I'm on my son's sight - hope he doesn't mind. I'm a 50's baby and as a young kid, used to put both stereo speakers against each ear, turn the music up and listen to the drum solo pulse through left and right and back again. Classic music and brings back heaps of memories!
Ron bushy set the standard for drum solo's with this physically demanding test of endurance. The astounding part is, this was done as a sound check for the studio engineer while waiting for their producer to show up. When the tape was replayed it was decided another take was not needed and it was released as performed, in one take. This song, among others, brings many memories back for me. Everyone pick up on "God rest ye merry Gentlemen", on the key boards from 11:24 to12:15? Ahhh,,The 60's.
this drum solo is absolutly without a doubt the best solo i have ever heard, this tune is in my top 20 all time favorties. even neal pert or john bonham and a few others i will not name. this guy has some kind of magic in his bones and blood to throw out this kind of classic PEACE!!! :)
This was the first album I bought with my own money, I believe I was in 5th grade..I still have it, it's scratched to hell, but I also have the CD. I wore this song out for sure....classic.

A friend of mine was in 'Nam' and listenend to this while he was on guard out on the "wire" in Tay Ninh province. I asked if he threw flowers on the enemy. Ha!
