  • Im sorry but this movie was horrible....

  • Masterpiece.

  • to topsleon maybe one day when you have matured a little you might just be able to feel the beauty of the simpleness!

  • @ELITEPROPERTYCARE100 Go die motherfucker.i am mature enough to fuck your mama's ass every day!DIE DIE DIE

  • @topsleon Erm, you mad?

  • @Theguybehindyou14 Die motherfucker

  • one of the worst movies and stupid.no scenario no plot.absolutely 0.

  • @topsleon I think that's the point, it's minimalist...

  • I haven't seen this movie, but according to the IMDB synopsis: two guys go for a hike but "forget to bring any water or food with them." UM. I'm sorry -- someone please tell me there's more to it than that. I refuse to believe that someone would make a movie on such an unbelievable, baseless plot. Who would forget to bring food and water??

  • @mslit204 It's more that they go out for a short walk, maybe a few hours, and loose their bearings. They're townies in the desert

  • @mslit204 Because is losely based on real facts. Something like thus actually happen... believe it or not....

  • did the movie need additional gerries?

  • It's funny how all dialogues are already on the trailer, haha.

Amazing movie, by the way. Gus Van Sant FTW.

  • I dont think anything will ever top this as the worst movie I have ever seen, everytime i think i seen a terible move I just compare it to this one lol

  • Sorry but this movie was terrible. I brought it back to the dvd rental place and demanded another. And i'm serious, it was that bad.

  • It's just a bit boring.

  • This was supposed to stay in film school as a master's thesis. Either watch Planet Earth for BETTER desert landscapes, or go see an improv show to see even more awkward dialogue.

  • i keep thinking they're gonna run into Daft Punk filming Electroma

  • I REALLY love this movie.

Now, about Owen Gleiberman's review: I get the Ansel Adams, the Blair Witch and the Beckett thing, but Andy Warhol? Any clue about it?

  • @savignones es porque andy warhol hacía películas de ese estilo. No viste la película en donde filma la punta de una iglesia por varias horas?

  • How do I get this version of the song playing which is Spiegel im Spiegel. The version I searched is faster.

  • Gosh I love this movie

  • Gus Van sant´s most provocative film yet. This must be the only Van Sant film he´s ever seen.

The only provocative thing about this film is that they had the audacity to charge me to see this movie. I want my money back. What a rip off

  • I once read a review in a Video Ezy brochure when this first came out, it simply said

"Two guys in a desert, they walk, they talk....that’s it"

This was from a company that was trying to encourage you to rent their movies and that was the best they could say about it

  • Sorry I really thought this move was baddddddddddd

  • @MrsBrent couldn't agree more... i still cant believe i watched the whole thing without falling asleep :)

  • @MaryPoppinsRapedMe same here, I struggled through it in hopes that it would eventually be great as Gus van Sant is one of my faves.

  • had to have a double espresso to deal with this masterpiece...

  • Somebody told me this is Good Will Hunting, isnt it?

  • This is not only a movie. It's an experience. And a harsh one.

    "Fuck da thing" :)

  • I just came here cuz someone told me that this is classified as the "most boring" movie.

  • I've just wasted 2 hours of my life by watching this movie ...

  • God, this was such a bad movie. Seriously in the top 3 worst I've ever seen.

  • i rather watch dr t and the motherfucking women than this artsy piece of shit

  • Watched it this morning, so ... no words to describe, just watch and like.

  • This movie is so boring I punched my own face!

  • the music is spiegel im spiegel by arvo part- the greatest living classical composser

  • 2 poofters lost up each others bum holes - 10 out of 10

  • lol it says " A hypnotic visual experience." but I thought it said "A homoerotic visual experience." and I was like, Brokeback Mountain: The Prequel?? lol

  • What is this song called? It's so beautiful!!

  • @BasiclyHer see above

  • This is a film of two guys walking. shuffling mostly actually.

  • lol I think I'm one in a million people that likes this beautiful movie. Seen it twice

  • that movie was horrible

  • most boring movie ever, dont see it unless you wanna get brain cancer

  • MATT DAEMON!!

  • One of the best movie of this earth with almost no plot. Who cares about meanings sometimes<? Let just be hypnotize by the beauty of the plan...people doesn´t like dreaming these days...geez!

  • What a wonderful trailer...

And the music is awesome. Does anyone know if the music is original or its author?

  • @lilixsun it's arvo pärt with "spiegel im spiegel"

they used some of his work in this movie

  • @lilixsun arvo part- speigel im spiegel

  • @lilixsun All the music in this movie is written by Arvo Part prior to the making of this film :) The film makers just wanted to use the music I guess.

  • @lilixsun It is Arvo Part - Spiegel im Spiegel.

  • @lilixsun

The Music is Arvo Part, Speigel im Speigel

  • @lilixsun music is by Arvo Part. the tunes utilised are "fur alina" and "spiegel im spiegel"

  • @lilixsun Composer is Arvo Part

  • @lilixsun This is the most goddamn slow, boring, waste of a movie. Nothing happens, the other movies that are part of this "death trilogy" from the same director are much better.

  • People are looking at the movie the wrong way. Sure, it got really boring at times. But it was a success in that it made us feel what they were feeling. Those extremely long shots of them walking personally gave me a hopeless and desperate feeling. Think about having to walk in the desert, essentially nowhere, for days. That's why they would make shots go so slowly, to let the camera express the emotion. That feeling of time barely moving along, the staggering heat, and the hopelessness.

  • dear woadancincolours,

just so you know: some people disagree with you

    hope you don't mind

  • I just saw some list on here of top 10 most boring movies, this was the # 1

    xD

  • i kinda liked it

  • this film is so bad, the trailer makes it look like a spoof

  • The creators of this movie should kill themselves. The most pointless movie ever created...besides twilight

  • Tell me they stumble across Burning Man while they're out there.

  • Whether you think it's a pretentious piece of shit or not. Watch it here and find out-

    gomoviez . info/links_page?movie=25000

  • 1:32

    god, i hate snobs critics!!

  • all who have seen this film should have been aware by the title alone they were walking in to a minimalists vision of film making. so rather than fight and complain on a 'youtube comments' section go watch something else while the rest of us enjoy this and other 'nothing happens' films such as Moon, Badlands and Last Days.

  • Every year, between 150-200 (!!) people get lost in the middle west of the USA. Around 5-10% are never found again. Even if this movie isn't based on one single, true story, it IS based on the stories of many people who never lived to find their car again. And this is, in my eyes quite scary actually. I have been hiking in the exact same region, the movie was shot and if you've not done this yourself, you would never guess how easy it is, to get lost. I find this to be an absolutely amazing film

  • DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this movie is so trashy... just plain self-indulgemente, terrible actors, no plot, shitty (national geographic) cinematography, it is actually embarrasing coming from gus van sant, and it is just ridicolous that the trailer is actually more tolerable, this is NO cinema at all.

  • It's called ART. Go watch Jackass 3-D

  • @CodyC6969 hahaha filistee art you mean right? blockbuster art bitch?

  • @andresmds I'd like you to see you do better

  • @andresmds Its unfortunate most people critique many movies w/ the same self indulgent nature you pretend to know about the writers, directors and actors. Learn to watch film from outside the box and perhaps one day you too will learn to understand what many films are truly about.

  • @arrogantbastard76 THANKYOU very much!!! you surely seem wise huh???

  • van sant = genious

  • muito bom

  • I love how the two highest rated comments pretty much describes people's feeling toward this film...

  • @woadancincolours while I see what you're saying (don't make this movie out to be something that it's not) and while "provocative" and "masterpiece" would not be words I would use to describe this, this film was a lot more than just 2 guys in a desert. This film has a beautiful, hypnotic atmosphere that many films never achieve. Yes, it was also dreadfully slow.

  • I found the locations and nature shots amazing. It's a good movie for it's imagery, nothing really else to say.

  • fuck sand and fuck walking.

  • I like this because its different. This movie is not like the one's in the theatres. It shows a depth that not everyone would understand. Gerry is a really decent movie, and if people have the patience to think about it, they would think so too. Not every movie has to be straight in your face action. Its refreshing to see that there are movies out there that are like this. ♥

  • Smoke green & watch it - you won't tbe disappointed

  • This was the worst movie in the world

  • so about ten minutes into the movie i was like, "ok, this is boring, im gonna take it out." i ended up watching the entire movie......it was just so mezmerizing. the dialogue was minimal, the landscape was extraordinary, and it was great seeing matt in a role where he didn't have ten pages of dialogue in one scene. loved it.

  • is this another broke back mountain?

  • @buzwazfuz not at all. the two guys get lost in the desert, and it's just about them trying to find their way out. if you don't mind two hours of nothing but white sand, no talking, and tons of walking, i'd recomend it.

  • @buzwazfuz

    a far more boring one.

  • @buzwazfuz No, this came out 4 years before Brokeback Mountain

  • @buzwazfuz it is not a homosexual movie

I found it completely absorbing, and unlike anything I'd ever seen..

  • @buzwazfuz

Watch the movie before asking dumb questions!

  • @buzwazfuz well seeing as brockback mountain is a 2005 film and Gerry was produced in 2002, it might be better if you go to a brokeback mountain trailer and comment "is this another Gerry?"

  • @fightergrl29 Haha, true that.

  • @buzwazfuz fortunately not.

  • @buzwazfuz I wish.

  • Omfg please! I (painfully) watched this entire thing waiting for something to happen. This movie sucks, its so boring and sooooooooooo slow. It is beautiful, realistic and boring. And it LOST a ton of money too because no one wanted to see it. I love Van Sant, but do not see this film, YOU WILL BE SO BORED. Oh by the way, if they couldn't get Ben Affleck to pair up with Matt Damon one more time, take a guess who they got instead.....

  • @bryanttttttt You got trolled. Oh by the way it's called ART bitch, people appreciate it in different ways

  • @MajorityRule Jesus majority....you don't have to sound like an pretentious elitist just because you "get" this movie. By the way, if you have a point to make, build a dam argument and don't just insult people.

  • @coffman241 My comment from last year was me trolling, and if you want an argument refer to my comment from yesterday.

  • I want it noted that there's nothing wrong with liking something pretentious. So it's perfectly fine if you like this movie. But any movie that can have a 15min+ scene of two people walking around with no dialog, it probably aware of it's own pretentiousness.

  • This movie was hard to watch the first time cuz i wasn into such motionless (if u get my term) films. but< ive matured about such things, and i see the movie wasn so muchto be made as a "movie" but more so as beautiful imagery. Gus van sant makes alot of quiet movies with tons of silent walking seens. but it is simply his umique style of creating emotion in a seen. "Paranoid Park" is a great exaample.

  • is tthis suppose to be a gay movie.

  • @Xtremebyrd2k6 No.It's a really good movie.It's very sad though.

  • The Trailer makes the movie seem exciting...

  • what this song called and how can i get it?

  • This is pretentious, arty bullshit.

  • @klaymen22 If you think THIS is "pretentious arty bullshit", I'd love to see how you react to actual "pretentious arty bullshit".

  • @NoJamOnYourBread

It's pretentious garbage for pretentious people like yourself.

  • @supaflyjohnson Nope. You can't just label everything you don't enjoy "pretentious". Well.. you Do have a giant penis on your youtube page... so obviously I shouldn't expect much of you.

  • So this is where Daft Punk got there idea for Daft Punk's Electroma

  • me too, i love

one of my favourite fims all time

  • still love it...

  • just a great movie!

    love it!

  • I'm so worried about them :(

  • this is my favourite movie

  • this looks amazing.

  • Hello guys. We've made a small tribute to Mr. Van Sant for the promotion of MECAL. Barcelona Short Film Festival. Search "Spot Mecal 2010". Enjoy!

  • AsSSS!

  • WALKING THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!! this sucks harder than Linda Lovelace

  • Waste. of. film.

  • SAW or somthing is noting to this! its a real story and you can feel the dead.

    sorry bad english

  • I heard this was filmed in the argentina desert...............

  • I hated this movie. It was the most boring "hey look! its art!!!" piece of shit flick I ever had to endure. I don't need a crappy movie like this to contemplate life or the meaningfulness of 2 morons walking in the desert.

  • @ Charmingsage: sorry I'm a "dumbass French " ....

and I see you're a veeeery tolerant person, with no stereotyp on people. u're welcome. XD

  • This film is pure gash!

  • The Gus Van Sant's most interesting and risky movie, undoubtedly. Beautiful!

  • i almost died from boredness.

  • Well, you're obviously a DUMBASS American.

  • wow even with the opening piano line I could feel the pretentiousness building up. I enjoy a good artsy movie, but movies about people just getting lost in an average situation showing people having average conversations is not some masterpiece, it is not some divine experience of creativity or a provocative work of art that really makes you think, it's just 2 guys getting lost in the desert.

  • @woadancincolours It's not what the film's about, it's how the film's made.

  • @woadancincolours

wow even with the opening sentence of your comment i could feel the pretentiousness building up. move on and make your own masterpiece

  • @SlalomHO

I currently go to an arts school and at least one of my movies are better than this. Also how does not making films mean you can't criticize films?

  • @woadancincolours

obviously you are free to criticize anything you wish, even a jackass gets to share his delusions. congratulations on your non-pretentious movie, im sure it will receive wonderful praise

  • @woadancincolours Pretentiosness in the opening piano??? It's Arvo Part, very deep composer...And this is not a artsy movie, it's very deep...like movies from Tarkovsky,Kubrick,Kurosawa,Jarmusch,Kaurismaki and others. It is not for everybody...especially not for you. Sorry...go watch Star Wars and Titanic or maybe Minority report,Next, gone in 60 seconds and many more stupid movies from hollywood.

  • you're joking right ? please tell me sir this is some ironic form of joke ? you could not possibly sound more pretentious then you do in this post, your point is lost within the elitist ramblings of you trying far to hard to prove to yourself that you have more merit the other gentlemen. I agree with you but your idiotic manner has made me hate my own point of view bravo sir not a easy thing to do.

p.s. you forgot to name drop Bergman into your list what kind of 2nd rate elitist are you.

  • @doctorpwnage Not sure if this was for me, cause you didn't tag me. How exactly was this pretentious? I was just saying how I felt about the movie. And as for Bergman, I don't even really know who that is. I also don't see how I am elitist, because I don't recall saying that I know more than anyone. I was simply offering my explanation for what people seemed frustrated with about the movie. I never claimed to be an expert, I just like to discuss. No need to be so hostile.

  • This movie needs its own video game.

  • @CGC002 Try the new ThatGameCompany game: Journey. You'll be surprised.

  • I saw Koyannasquatsi and loved it for its images (first 10 minutes are dull, then it picks up). No words or anything, just awesome shots and great images with a strong message.

This movie though... ok for me the desert is not a 'great image'. It looks hot and repetitive. And as for a message... it didn't even have one.

Just because you go and push the conventional movie standards does not necessarily make what you just did art.

  • I honestly can't see the appeal in these artsy movies. I know some of these guys just love going all philosophical and crap while watching these because apparently they can see the deeper meaning. Most of these movies aren't entertaining. Nothing happens.

  • how is this watchable?

  • ok... seriuosly ? a beautiful movie ? i dont get it its just a couple of guys fucking walking in the desert !!! no plot, no emotion, no script no nothing!

  • They were sure walking in the desert a lot...

  • This was filmed in argentina, right??????????????

  • I heard this movie was filmed in argentina, what is the plot??

  • the plot is two guys go for a walk in the desert and talk about nothing (not like, Seinfeld nothing, nothing nothing). seriously. that's it.

  • In the argentina desert?right?

  • none

  • The trailer is a piece of art in itself. I like it a lot more than the actual film.

  • This was a great movie, beautiful in every way.

  • are seriously man?!in which way was this movie beautiful????!

  • @KutasusWielgus it teaches us film viewers patience.

  • Im sorry, but this movie was terrible

  • can anyone tell me what this music is?? its lovely but haunting,

  • Spiegel im Spiegel - Arvo Part.

    exquisite

  • @Beerman thanks.

  • Some things don't make sense. Why wear a black shirt in the deset, and why

not bring at least a bottle of water?

    They had their Marlboro's wohooo

Lot of good that'll do on a hike... OTHERWISE great movie.

  • @ledamate

To be honest, my fitness instructor said to wear black (I know, contrary to popular belief) because it blocks the sun's harmful UV rays, unlike white, although noticeably cooler, retains the UV rays, increasing chances of skin cancer.

From an aesthetic standpoint, I think Savides/Van Sant thought white shirts conflicted with what they wanted to show cinematographically.

  • @ledamate What does one of the actors wearing a black shirt and not taking a bottle of water have to do with how much you enjoyed the movie? You think EVERYONE who goes into the desert doesn't wear black - what about Lawrence of Arabia? People do. It's not like they were going camping or nothing.

  • @ledamate And as for the water, well so what. I go out for 4-5 hour walks in 40 degree heat without water. Given I'm quite thirsty when I get home but I know I can do without for the walk. These guys went to see 'the thing' and the movie gives the impression it is not a huge walk - maybe an hour or so at most. And they're young men; we are a reckless and cockheaded bunch who think we can do whatever we want. They may have had water in the car also.

  • fast forward,fast forward...''Fuck this,I can't even see the tracks anymore.Fuck 'em.'' fast forward,fast forward...''Dude,stop crying.'' fast forward...lol xD

  • this guys didn't watched Bear Grylls haha

  • great actors, great movie.

  • great movie. the first time i watched it, it was alright, but the second time (two years later) i was ready and more open to the style and feel. Overall, a truly different and powerful film. It captures a lot of emotion in a very unconventional way.
