  • I'm upgrading from my EOS XT to this immediately! Thank you so much Gordan, You know your stuff! Keep up the excellent work!

  • the 5 dislikes are obviously from some lame "competititor".

Why on earth woun't you appreciate such a professional and friendly review?!?

  • is the silent mode on the 7d as good as it is on the 40d?

  • @simargl

budget camera's aren't suposed to make "ridicilous amounts" of pictures.. like a 500d maybe 50000 clicks or a 50d with arround 75-100k oposed to a 1d mk4 which im not sure of maybe arround 200-300k clicks? probably more..

  • @StateOwned My 350D has 100k clicks, what's your point?

  • @StateOwned there was one of the old rebel series rated at 50,000 actuations. Someone did over 350,000 and it was still going, thats 7 times more than the rating.

  • one question, when i got my 30d 3 years ago, it didn't come with a red canon strap. it was lined with gray. just wondering,

  • after checking the silent shooting options on a 7D I have to say "mode1" seems to create a more noticable (high-pitch-click) sound than "disabled". I see the point of "mode2" though

  • yeah 50d has these settings. quite similar cameras. i have a 50d :D

  • can the 50d be silent?

  • Check out the features page of my 50D review at cameralabs . com...

  • well what ways is there to use silent shooting i really wish to learn about dslr because im going to get the 40d when i have money enough

  • are there no menus for taking an automatic pictures?

  • how do you get the settings on the main LCD, like the 450d, never knew how to do it on the 40D? Thanks a lot, and GREAT video never knew about the silent shooting

  • how did you get the grid to appear in the live view?

  • on 450d, you've to press "display"

  • I would recommend using the live view function while shooting landscapes or long exposures as there's not as much movment because the mirror is up already... just a thought

  • brilliant

  • wow! mode 2 is REALLY quiet! Thanks for these reviews Gordon! Best reviews i've seen and i have seen them ALL!

  • Thanks Benny! Make sure you also check out the full reviews at the cameralabs . com website!

  • lol

    its like a gun

  • Will they ever give us hoods with EFS lenses??? If they do Gordon, you will deserve your share of the blame! N1

  • i first thought it was an electronic sound to sound "cool" or more professional haha.

what's the lens shown in your video?

  • That's the EF 24-105mm f4L...

  • great video! thanks for posting

  • Hey got a question ? How does the 40d do at taking sports pictures. Fast, slow or what ?

  • It's great for action shots - very quick AF with a decent lens, and quick continuous shooting. See our full review at the Cameralabs website for more details.

  • hey gordon! i got a question thats not really related to this video but! i was just wondering are you planning to do a review on the nikon d3 when availible?

  • I sure will as soon as Nikon gets one to me. I don't know when that will be though - same for the D300. Check the Cameralabs website and forum for the latest news!

  • I'm a student so I consider £500 alot of dosh, I don't know if I could afford to spend that much again within a year or so, on a new camera.

  • Shutters are replaceable when you send it in to Canon.

  • Hi there, really great helpful videos.

    Speaking of shutters.

I'm new to DSLRs, I bought a 400d a month ago. In that month I've taken close to 3000 pictures.

I've become very paranoid about my shutter failing after reading about the 50,000 actuation life of this camera. If that number is true, I'll be lucky to get a year out of my camera at the rate I'm going.

  • @simargl don't be paranoid. the purpose of a camera is to take pictures, and also, most cameras don't fail exactly at 50,000 and they break before or after. my friend'snikon d300 has a dur. of 150,000 and has 200,000 (he does weddings)

  • I have a 40D and love it. What info settings are you using? E.g. histogram, info, etc.

  • I'm not sure what you mean! But there's several 40D owners on the Cameralabs forum if you'd like to compare notes...

  • I meant what settings you were using to get the information display while in LVM. (I couldn't emulate what you displayed) I've since figured it out. Thanks!

  • I'm getting my 40D tomorrow with a 24-105mm f/4 L lens! Is the lens in this review the same? Anyways, terrific reviews, thanks.

  • Great choice on a lens - yep, that's the same one we used for testing the 40D and there's a full review of it at cameralabs . com...

  • Some of the best reviews around.

    Many tnx from Greece cameralabs

  • The 40D makes a shutter sound that sounds like the 1Ds Mark II!

  • Nice video. Too bad there isn't an equivalent silent function for manual focusing (w/ street photography) ... or is there?

  • I'm not sure I know what you mean! Manual focusing is virtually silent, but AF during Live View on the 40D does make some noises which you'll hear in our main Canon 40D video...

  • thx for the reviews on the eos 40d, im am now buying this cam because of your great review! thx

  • Very nice feature review as always. After seeing your videos of the Canon 40D i would run to the first store that has it and buy one. To bad that greed and taxes (greed) in Romania make this kind of toys/tools cost 500$ more compared to the US. But never mind, i just had to let that out somewhere :). Keep up the good work, you do the best digital camera reviews on YouTube.
