budget camera's aren't suposed to make "ridicilous amounts" of pictures.. like a 500d maybe 50000 clicks or a 50d with arround 75-100k oposed to a 1d mk4 which im not sure of maybe arround 200-300k clicks? probably more..
@StateOwned there was one of the old rebel series rated at 50,000 actuations. Someone did over 350,000 and it was still going, thats 7 times more than the rating.
after checking the silent shooting options on a 7D I have to say "mode1" seems to create a more noticable (high-pitch-click) sound than "disabled". I see the point of "mode2" though
how do you get the settings on the main LCD, like the 450d, never knew how to do it on the 40D? Thanks a lot, and GREAT video never knew about the silent shooting
I would recommend using the live view function while shooting landscapes or long exposures as there's not as much movment because the mirror is up already... just a thought
It's great for action shots - very quick AF with a decent lens, and quick continuous shooting. See our full review at the Cameralabs website for more details.
hey gordon! i got a question thats not really related to this video but! i was just wondering are you planning to do a review on the nikon d3 when availible?
I sure will as soon as Nikon gets one to me. I don't know when that will be though - same for the D300. Check the Cameralabs website and forum for the latest news!
I'm new to DSLRs, I bought a 400d a month ago. In that month I've taken close to 3000 pictures.
I've become very paranoid about my shutter failing after reading about the 50,000 actuation life of this camera. If that number is true, I'll be lucky to get a year out of my camera at the rate I'm going.
@simargl don't be paranoid. the purpose of a camera is to take pictures, and also, most cameras don't fail exactly at 50,000 and they break before or after. my friend'snikon d300 has a dur. of 150,000 and has 200,000 (he does weddings)
I meant what settings you were using to get the information display while in LVM. (I couldn't emulate what you displayed) I've since figured it out. Thanks!
I'm not sure I know what you mean! Manual focusing is virtually silent, but AF during Live View on the 40D does make some noises which you'll hear in our main Canon 40D video...
Very nice feature review as always. After seeing your videos of the Canon 40D i would run to the first store that has it and buy one. To bad that greed and taxes (greed) in Romania make this kind of toys/tools cost 500$ more compared to the US. But never mind, i just had to let that out somewhere :). Keep up the good work, you do the best digital camera reviews on YouTube.

I'm a student so I consider £500 alot of dosh, I don't know if I could afford to spend that much again within a year or so, on a new camera.

Shutters are replaceable when you send it in to Canon.

Speaking of shutters.

I have a 40D and love it. What info settings are you using? E.g. histogram, info, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean! But there's several 40D owners on the Cameralabs forum if you'd like to compare notes...
