Does anyone know how to acheive this type of tone on the keys/synth? If anyone is familiar with a particular program or gear setup that could help me walk in this direction it'd be a great help. I've been in plenty of metalcore bands but my heart was always with Melodeath. I just joined the others because I don't know anyone near me who wants to make this kind of music. I was making the point that every band has it's own genre. Why would you want to categorize such a unique thing as a group of individuals creating art? Now if we're talking "bands that incorporate double bass, electronic elements, intricate guitar, and singing/screaming vocals", then Sybreed and Mygrain are definitely in the same category. But to use mainstream genre types to compartmentalize art is as unmetal as it gets.

I agree that most arguments over genre are pretty dumb, however sybreed sounds more like bands like mnemic or a dark halo which are "industrial metal". I don't know much about all the technical terms, but they don't seem to sound like mygrain. If you look at my other comment though you will notice I was asking. Genres don't mean that much to me, I like all kinds of metal just look at my favorites.

I absolutely love this song, and i wish there was more of this type of music available. No matter what the more hardcore guys say, making melodic death metal songs a lá In Flames & Soilwork is badass and will bring you more new fans than you'll ever lose.

Then there's the Industrial side of things. Most Melodeath and Black Metal come close to Industrial music. And for the most part clean vocals suit Industrial. But they should be eather abrassive or mournfull. And as far as rhaspy vocals go, Marilyn Manson, Deathstars, The Kovenant, Combichrist, Doomsday Refreshment Committee and Minsitry are great examples. That rhaspy crocked out form ov singing rules. It adds to the eerie feeling ov the music.

And i think that miserable sounding spoken aproach was class. Or Eternal Tears Of Sorrow when they released "A Virgin And A Whore". The clean vocals on that album werent overused and when they were used they were beautiful. Dark Tranquility's clean vocals are also beautiful. And again they have a lower more gothic pitch. Dark Funeral's odd spoken vocals are cleverly crafted. And not over-used

And they were used well. Sort of Thrashy. Norther's early use of clean singing was done with great taist. The more gothic low pitched singing suited them greatly. But recent songs like Frozen Angel for example in my opinion are a disgrace to their back catalogue. Gorgoroth's Gaahl has done very mournfull wailing/moaning in some of the recent material and i think it added emotion and reality to the music. Burzum did the same on some songs off "Det Som Engang Var" and "Hvys Liset Tar Oss"

Noumena use clean vocals and they use them well. The vocals are good, and emotional but not overly dramatic. 1349 use non screamed vocals here and there and i love them. Granted it's not singing, but rhasped out shouts, but still it counts. Mayhem during their Avant-Guard days had Maniac speaking and singing, it was mostly just speaches being sung but it worked brilliantly. Children Of Bodom's vocalist Alexi Laiho can't clean sing, but his choruses in the later-day work were very close to it.

Wich is not to say that this band is bad... I just don't apreciate that aproach to such an amazing genre. But i don't wanna come across as one ov those closeminded no clean singing people. I don't particularly enjoy it, but for example Imperanon had a song with Power Metal type clean vocals and i think that was amazing. Or Iskald's use ov spoken parts i like. Dimmu Borgir's use ov classicaly trained operatic clean singing is very good. Wintersun's clean singing is very good aswell.

Im sorry. It's not bad music, but i really dislike it when bands play that really mainstream borderline metalcore style of Melodic Death Metal. It's an underground form of music that goes hand in hand with other extreems like Black Metal. Once there is a clean singing chorus, it ruins it for me. Not all clean singing, but this for example reminds me too much ov Bullet for my valentine.....
