Vidyo: better videoconferencing than Skype

No one with any credibilty in the business world uses Skype, it doesn't happen, but they do use Polycom or Tandberg (now Cisco), this Vidyo technology is pretty awesome, that box may be $7000 or whatever but a comparable equivalent on the VC market is about $25,000, quite good.

I have £70 Logitech HD 910 webcam with BT Infinity fibre optic broadband 31meg down 8 meg up - and i get webcam chats just as good as this using skype! Considering the fact skype is free and most people will have fibre maybe next year i wouldnt even consider using this vidyo thing! When most people get fibre this software will be obsolete. Get BT Infinity or Virgin media instead of this. Trust me.

@2000kenm - yeah... so, how much longer do you think Skype will be free now that Microsoft owns it? And I'm not sure how you figure "most people" will have fiber in 2012. I would say fiber in the home by 2020 is a stretch.

Someone should correct the CAPTIONING as soon as possible here. VERY important for all videos online now. The automatic speech to text just not good enough yet.

"Better conferencing than Skype" is a bit misleading when considering how these two solutions are marketed. Skype is also on mobile devices and seems to focus on consumer needs. Vidyo is a different animal and is all about corporate needs such as an alternative solution to bulky VTC's that do seem to be a waste of money. They are both great, Skype and Vidyo, but each has it's own application and target areas for specific needs. Vidyo may be a great solution for businesses who want to save money.

1) It's awesome.

2) Of course it's better, it's using $7000 worth of tech. Skype runs on a $500 computer that you already have. And anyone you want to call already has.
