Its this kit a low-end beginner kit? I have heard good things about it but it only cost $650. Is this a step up from beginner kits? if yes, how much?
i bought this kit two weeks ago, and it's pretty amazing, the guys at the shop tuned it for me and it's probably a little bit high for what a lot of rock people like but i think it sounds unique and brilliant. no point making the drums tuned low if that's not where they sound good.
@beaudjangles Im gonna be going to college, I was thinking of buying this kit as my all around kit for my college days. (then next 5-6 years maybe more) would this be a kit to buy or is a kit from yamaha or dw or someone. Im gonna be playing jazz, rock, funk, r&b, techno....anybody I can play with so could I use this kit?
Hey Bud, I had one of these kits and I loved it and I was using it on a rock/funk/fusion gig. The toms on this kit if I remember right have 6 lugs on them. I have the USA Customs and those have 5 lugs and there is no problems, you get a couple lugs that want to tune higher or lower but it is easy to get them even plus they are more resonant because less of the head is compressed. If you haven't bought a kit yet I say get this kit you will love it!
i just got this exact kit and color today...i love it.....im beginning drummer and am wondering why the hole in the front of the kick....just to mic it? how does it sound now
Cool. It is a nice kit. The hole in the front serves two purposes.
1) It lets more air out of the bass drum. I was getting slap back from the bass drum before making the hole. Now it's perfect. Just personal preference.
2) I can put a mic inside.
Enjoy the kit. Thanks for the comment and question.
Silver sparkle is cool. The club jazz kit is versatile and compact. Perfect for practice or the gigging drummer. If you're leaning toward getting this kit, definitely get it.
I'm looking at getting this drum kit soon, but i'm debating between a few others. I really do like this kit, the sound is awesome. The one thing holding me back though is size. I'm 6' and growing, would you still think I'd be comfortable playing this for a long time? Or do you think I'd eventually "grow out of it" if you know what i mean..?
buy a low throne. plus you can always raise the toms. i'm about to purchase one of these. i'm six foot two. it might look strange but its always comfortable to play.
This kit will work for rock, concert band and especially Jazz. I'm playing in a blues band now and it sounds great. Since it's small it's easy to travel with. You won't be dissapointed. I hope to have a video of myself playing this kit soon.
thanks i just bought it about a month or so ago and put vintage emperors over ambassadors for the toms and a pinstripe on the bass. they sound awesome and HUGE. they blend well together and i have yet to put on better snare heads. be warned that the bass drum sounds louder than it looks
i saw a new one of these at guitar center on clearance for $400 but then someone bought it before i could rack up the money =(. I'm in a concert band, jazz band, and rock band that all need a set. will this set be able to get gigged with and still sound good in these genres? any suggestions or comments? thanks.
allright well actually i just bought one of these from guitar center for $400 new thanks to my awesome negotiating skills. they do sound pretty good but the bass drum "lift" is absolutely awfull. it leaves marks from where you put it on and the rubber slides off. also you have to check every once in awhile because the bassdrum slides out of it! if you don't the bass drum will crash onto the floor. not good
Mapex and Gibraltar both make a lift; they're both alike. I have the Mapex one and it's awesome. I hate the one that came with mine, so I had to get it.
I just got my first ever Gretsch drum set...Catalina Rock Club set witha 26"X18" bass drum...
I have been lucky enough to own a few brands of drums over 20 years of playing...
Ludwig both woods & acylics, Pearl monster double bass kit, Yamaha double bass kit, sonor....
Every kit has sounded great and each set I owned I used a differant brand complete set of matching cymbals....
I like the Gretsch set I own but only because of the larger bass drum sound...

@JBL8863 I wish my kit had a bigger bass drum, but the 18" bass drum comes in handy when I have to play gigs in tight spaces.

is this kit good for rock?
campadonico954 2 years ago
It works for rock.
shraunbone 2 years ago
@campadonico954 this kit sounds great hands down, a great jazz kit is better at rock than a lot of average rock kits.

Hi have you ever had any problems tuning the top tom with the five lug set up??thats the only thing that might sway me on buying this kit>
Cathalryan1 2 years ago
I've had no issues with tuning the high tom. Go ahead and get this kit. It's versatile and compact. I'm you'll love it.

I know about the bass drum. No muffeling needed at all. Good call on the drum heads. Post a video of the kit.

I don't use the lift. I didn't like it. Don't let that turn you off. It's a great little drum kit.
