  • Eurovision 1994 was held on the might of the death of austrian formula 1 rookie driver roland ratenzenberger at imola

  • Can someone please write down Miss Ni Mhurchu's speech in Gaelic!! I am learning Irish so it would be really helpful. Thanks !

  • Irish television changed eurovision in many ways, with inovations, wonderful stage designs, and hosts....,every ESC in 1988,1993,1994 and 1997 was revolutionary....I ll hope u will won soon, because all this ESC looks pretty funny after this.....from Serbia to Iriish organization 12 POINTS

  • Oh god shut your pie hole Terry

  • Seo, Cead mile failte go leor!

  • I wish Terry Wogan would shut up

  • There was a joke amongst people that I knew that "you will receive your tax note this year and the Irish will win Eurovision !"

  • I think it was Dublin Heroes they had in mind not Irish heroes!

  • oh, I didn't know Gerry died !!! :((( RIP Gerry.

  • best opening of an ESC, ever :)

  • @dideleda What I really miss is the Eurovision-promo, that was also before 'Jeux Sans Frontières'

  • R.I.P The great Gerry Ryan

  • RIP presenter Gerry Ryan who died 30/4/2010. And did I hear Terry Wogan saying that the date of the 1994 eurovision was 30/4/1994?

  • @newboycork What a shock - what happened?

  • Gerry Ryan was a wonderful presenter that year and by all accounts a great and decent man.

    May he rest in peace.

  • Is that George Bernard Shaw sitting next to Mary Robinson?

  • The best contest ever - quality of songs, stage and work of whole crew behind the scenes all transformed into memorable event. I believe this year and 1997 are really the best.

  • This is when they did it formally and rather classy.

  • LOL @ Cynthias see thru skirt!

  • The best opening of Eurovision I have ever saw!

  • The show that year was produced by Moya Doherty, who would go on to oversee Riverdance (which also debuted at this ESC)

  • Why doesn't any Irish person clap after the welcome in Irish?!!! Surely there was a few who understand it!

  • I love how they are welcoming the 5 new states especially now since it is those states and the new ones that have ruined the song contest forever they should have never been allowed to join and I mean for jesus sake when was Israel ever part of europe??????????

  • Poland came last last year.

  • Correctuido: How hard is it to understand that the main condition for Eurovision participation is NOT any geographical issues, BUT an active membership in the European Broadcasting Union, which effectively means that ANY country located in the European Broadcasting Area (Region 1 as defined by the International Telecommunication Union) is welcome. You know, Eurovision Network is more than just the Song Contest.

  • Cynthia left TV and is now a Lawyer

  • Afriad not. I see her nearly everyday on the train going to work in dublin.

  • Shes a barrister now. She taught me in primary school before all of this!

  • Look at the audience. Eurovision was a very special event in the past but now it has been ruined and doesn't count anymore even if I still love it. I wish it were the same as 15 years ago.

  • did the conductor have to chew his gum during the time he was in shot? :)))))))))))

  • I love these old Eurovison Openings. Great!

  • wow 13th April.. I wonder why it was so early that year

  • It was the 30th of April, not the 13th. The contest has generally been held in the last week of April or the first week of May, give or take.

  • the Irish equivalent of Friday the 13th.

  • Don't post offensive comments like this on my channel. You have been blocked.

  • Do you have any video clips of commentators reacting to riverdance for the first time?

  • WOW that's amazing!

  • nah i think this year was more cool than 2006... the presentation 4 the semi final in finland didnt seem all that great, does anyone agree?? oh and i have another question! do the presenters talk in french anymore aswell as english and native language???

  • In English and native language yes, but the French has come rarer. I seem to remember 2007's hosts using it to explain the obligatory facts, though.

  • Nah...the entrance of the presenters in 2006 was more exciting and dramatic...

  • Possibly the most professional opening sequence in the history of Eurovision. Very theatric and picturesque. Only the start to an overall great year of Eurovision.

  • polish girl was the best. and i and r land was not the best. borat :)

  • This was a stunning entrance, but the following year was better with Mary Kennedy walking down the disapearing staircase.

  • That has to be the best way any presenter has ever entered a eurovision stage!
