I knew these guys well myself. Bein an Ann Arbor boy and having Al Nalli Sr. and Jr as my neighbor at his restaurant business in Dearborn Twp (Before Dearborn Heights). I jammed and played drums with Ray Monet and other studio musicians in the late 60s and early 70s
if there ever was classic Rock N Roll good ole AMERICAN kickass PARTY music...this is the example i would take to this video to....MARS.... and show those creepy little green eyed martians..WTF i am talking ABOUT!!!
They were great showmen. They used to play Mentor (Ohio) Hullaballoo to packed crowds. Cub would climb up on the bass players shoulders, funny as hell!
having been brought up near Flint, Michigan, I can say I have seen these guys more times than I can count. They were the real deal. This was raw rock 'n roll music at its very finest. This video is a little bit tame compared to what they would be like on a bigger stage. They were pure fun and pure enjoyment. These were guys who love to what they did and they could excite a crowd much like Bob Seeger did later. Rest in peace Cubby, we miss you
@LastTree, from what I read, he's performed with some other musicians over the years, like Ted Nugent, and is teaching guitar and bass at a music store in Ann Arbor..
Cubby, Henry, and Tony and Mike were friends of mine, i'm from Dexter Michigan, and i knew 'em all i played their stuff in high school, and at 53 i still do it, on guitar, never made it but i slam the B!
greetings from t bone mankini! see my comment on this clip on the "mr robert" comments. needless to say NIGHT O THE TOWN remains a fave to this day, managed to find a vinyl copy on this side of the atlantic, not an easy task.played it for my buddy bill and he ws knocked out! glad there's still lots of fans out there keep rocking guys and gals, lots more good music that will never be forgotten! t bone!!!!
Was this frm the show they did for PBS? Coz if it is that`s the first time I ever saw them. I met the late great Cub Koda a real rock and roll gentelman.
Agreed that this is the BS I remember. A fun band to listen to, especially in a club setting like the Something Different. Anyone got a copy of "Rock & Roll Holiday they could post?
This is how I remember seeing Brownsville Station back in the day. They could rock a concert like no other band in Detroit at the time! Including Seger, Nugent and others.
Hello: I remember seeing this band back up Bob Seger in Orlando. They KICKED Bob's rear end. They were the main attraction. And Antony Tony Driggins was great on Country Flavor. The first Record was great. After they lost Driggins they were not as good as far as I'm concerned. I was about 16. I'm now 52. They interviewed on the local radio and was cool. Did not buy the new Seger record but I played to death the Brownsville Station record. We clapped our hands for an encore. Just loved it.
Country Flavor brutha! If Mikey don't a get it i know that Cubby will! HUH! Country flavor--i Will play it again--Michigan rocks, and Brownsville did WAY more than"Smokin In The Boys Room"--Most out of state numbnuts don't have a clue! Keep it movin! TCB
If you're talking about the May 7, 1972 show at the Tangerine Bowl, Brownsville didn't back Bob Seger. They opened for Bob Seger. As for kicking, Bob introduced his substitute backup band as "Julia." Even without his usual musicians, he rocked. Same show? Do you recall the crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to a much-embarrassed Bob? Complete with a cake? I was hugging the stage the whole time, so I didn't miss a thing. I even remember both the backup singers were named Marcia.
Well, I made an error. BR ST opened for Bob Seger. I was in the middle of the crowd. It seems I do remember the Happy Birthday. Long time ago. Probably the same show. He was playing his new record at the time. I prefer his early stiff like lucifer, Ramblin Gamblin man which he did not play. Yea, the crowd liked B Seg it but B St made the impression with me.
He didn't play Lucifer? How dare he? How about Evil Edna? I have NO memory of the playlist. BTW, did you see BS play a free concert at FTU in Orlando sometime later? I think it was winter of '72.
No Lucifer. I remember he played stuff from his latest record which I did not like. As he got more popular I liked the music less. No I did not see Br ST play FTU. I did listen to Cub Coda on the radio in Orlando following the concert just talking. Cool dude. Evil Edna, don't remember.
4 ward--as i said i will bring this band back to life--i have knee ptoblems--i will do more Brownsville than you may or not know-when i get ready i need the best drummer- the best kickin bass player around and me-- i WILL take care of the rest! July 2 2000 was a sad time for me and my band, that band is gone, i will make sure that this lives again!! God bless ya Lady J!
What- is Tony gone to? I Knew Cubby and Henry, i never knew he passed- i am sorry my brother--what a great musician he was-- i have the 1972 album"A Night On The Town" dammit- im 52 and have to get double knee surgery, trust me Brownsville will live again, i have played th guitar since 1968, Chris--i will play Michigan Rock again- and i will make Tony and Cubby proud! I know all the stuff they did, and i can play it! GOD bless you buddy! TCB
Thank You Harry Straite for finding this ventage footage of my wonderful brother. Antony Tony Driggins. He was a great Bassist and a wonderful proformer. Hes the one on te far left of the screen. We sadly miss him as we also miss Cubby Koda.
Thank you again Harry Straight and Drummer Henery Wreck for sharing this rare footage with the world.
