I recently went Humpback Whale watching in Hervey Bay. "Which are coastal waters off southern Queensland Australia." I have to say before this.. I really didn't give much thought to whales. But now.. seeing them. They are beautiful, and very graceful. The owner of the boat told me Humpback facts.. "The female humpback is pregnant for 12 months, and then nurses her calf for another year. She can give birth to a baby calf about once every three years." Didn't take me long to figure out the math!
Humpbacks are still the third most endangered species of all the big whales, but now their numbers are increasing 13% each year. If they recover off of the endangered species list, and just have to be hunted. I hope they figure out more humane way of ending their life! Sad to see anything suffer!

In point of fact, we HAVE looked at all the scientific evidence for and against whaling, and it is quite clear that commercial whaling is totally unsustainable. 98% of the world's Blue whale population was wiped out by commercial whaling before the moratorium came into force in 1986. Given the behaviour of whaling nations since, we have no reason to believe their practices are any more sustainable now.

I've never seen a nation abuse and disrespect the ocean as much as the Japanese. Most whale species ARE endangered but from what I have read Minke whales are not one of them but its not like the Japanese only hunt Minke, they definitely hunt whales that are endangered too. For the most part these hunts are entirely legitimate. As to the pressure than Japan faces, this is due to their flagrant disregard for the ban on commercial whaling and the pronounced increase in so-called "scientific" whaling. Japan has for many years been trying to undermine the ban, and has been caught red-handed offering bribes to developing countries to vote with it at the IWC. Condemnation of Japan's behaviour has nothing to do with racism and everything to do with principals of good science and conservation.

Secondly, the manner in which whales are hunted cannot by any stretch of the imagination be called "humane". In point of fact, we HAVE looked at all the scientific evidence for and against whaling, and it is quite clear that commercial whaling is totally unsustainable. 98% of the world's Blue whale population was wiped out by commercial whaling before the moratorium came into force in 1986. Given the behaviour of whaling nations since, we have no reason to believe their practices are any more sustainable now.

Out of 78 species of whales about 13 of them are on the list of endangered species, so most of the species are in good shape. Fx, take Iceland, a country I know very well. In 2006 they started hunging 30 minke whales (out of an estimated 174,000 animals in the central and north-eastern North Atlantic) and nine fin whales (out of an estimated 30,000 animals in the central and north-eastern North Atlantic).

Perhaps they could use a bigger grenade charge to kill them faster. Compared to natural deaths in the wild, this seems quicker. Animals who die "naturally" rarely just curl up and die. They often suffer violent, slow deaths and may even getting eaten alive by other creatures. This is nothing more than sappy emotionalism. The Minke whales in the video are FAR from endangered like other whales the SS claim. The Humpback, for instance, was removed from endangered status years ago.
