that looks a really smart conversion, excellent job, well done, if you ever get trouble with the gearbox, I have a workshop manual, look on e bay for ford 30 series transmission workshop manual
I'm a bit curious... why the Cummins swap? Was locating another good Ford core for rebuilding not economical as compared to having to fabricate so much? Not that I'm complaining, really... the B-series is a terrific engine!
Excellent work, all said. I was impressed with the quality and craftsmanship!
Something about a Ford blue Cummins engine just seems sacrilegious, though... :p
Oddly, my grandfather had an 8700 series, but got rid of it because it caught fire once and totaled the cab, electrics, and a few other things. He didn't like the way it pulled, either, and was contemplating a Cat 3116 (C7 now) swap. Used it primarily for PTO power - driving an irrigation pump and lumber planer, among other things.
Replaced it with a 'Deere, so I'm not complaining.
what you have done is amazing m8te ! didn't the original flywheel fit ? have you done a dyno test since the overhaul ? I'm curious about the output. you're right about the Ford engines , drops dead under 1800rpm's. how's the powershift holding up ? I like it a lot but I prefer a TW with the constant mesh box. raw power.
Top end I would say similar however far more bottom end power. The ford engine would die if pulled down much below 1800rpm but the cummins pulls hard way below this.
Side exhaust was a purely functional addition. The big standard pipe is really annoying when power harrowing or ploughing. I would have rather it stayed for originality really.
This vid was purely functional too, hence no music but point taken and I agree.
Hi, what part of the country are you in? What do you think of the gearbox? Has it given you any bother? I'd be very keen on a 30 series but Robert Wraight says stay away because of the gear box. What you reckon? Real nice looking conversion by the way. Mal
It's been no trouble up to now. I bought the tractor 9 years ago and the gearbox had been replaced 18 months before i bought it. It had 10K on the clock when i bought it and had around 15 to 16k now (clock stopped working a while ago). Wraight said the same to me but i was the one spending the money not him! It has been a brilliant machine and the conversion got rid if the weakest link in my opinion.
Had the valves drop in a newholland 8970 just rebuilt the engine. Check out my video. Nice work on this one very interesting to watch.

This was the third time the engine let me down.
IMHO the engine was always it's weakest point.
Very little torque backup. Below 1800rpm it just died. The cummins pulls well right down the rev range.

Ah, ok. Makes sense.

Beautiful work. The labor involved in lo production volume, one off parts/assys is unbelievable.

wonderfull job with the chassis!
How does the pulling power compare to the original engine??

Great Video Mate of the conversion, Just a suggestion, But a little bit of backround music wouldnt ake away from it. Love the side exhaust.

You certainly made a good job of it, looks very professional job. Very impressive job with the flywheel and pump drive!
Well done

Vid seems to pause at 1 second. Drag it to about 8 seconds and it seems to play then.
