Most people don't. I know I don't. I have a goal of doing a backflip by my birthday, but like most people, have the fear of flipping backwards, which will be hard for me to get over because I don't have an accesible gym, a trampoline, or a spotter available (and even if I did, my weight of 205 would be an obstacle for him), so I have very little to work with in terms of getting over the fear and doing a backflip. But I'm not going to give up.
I know that I'm much older than most that post here (I'l be 40 at the end of August) and weigh more than most that post here (205 lbs., 30-40 lbs. overweight), but is there any way to help with the discomfort that I feel on the top of my feet when I land, and my simple jumps were just about a foot off the ground. Has anyone that has done a flip like I'd like to eventually be able to felt the pain in the tops of their feet on landing, and how can I make it so that I won't feel that discomfort?
One thing that wasn't brought up in this video is the landing. Today at the ball field where I try my cartwheels and handstands, I took my shoes off for the first time and tried, among other things, a couple of jumps, and although it seemed that I was off the ground for a few split-seconds longer, when I landed, the tops of my feet hurt more than when I have shoes on. In fact, I had to bail out of a simple cartwheel attempt for that very reason, because of pain in the top of my feet.
I wonder how you're able to flip backwards, yet still finish ahead of where you started? How long have you been flipping? Also, I jumped a couple of times yesterday, and I wasn't that much lower off the ground in comparsion to my knees than you were, and wasn't able to completely tuck my knees to my chest. I'll be 40 next year and am overweight, do you think that, even though I can't jump worth a lick, or at least I didn't think I could, that I'd be able to do a backflip if I put my mind to it?
