  • "Huh? Get a job?!" "What for?" "I'm tryina think."

  • They said, Hah! Get a Job???

  • what did they all say at the beginning?

  • makes me cry. best song ever about misspent youth? The harmonies, the melody, the lyrics. All so perfect.

  • yea use 2 bump this on my way 2 school if it sounds good i listen

  • just went through a timewarp via 89.3 the Current with this song. I love Kate Pierson.

  • im a blk guy n this is a really nice song .....i love it actually

  • @dro370 blk guys like this?

  • Not the same without Ricky - we miss you Ricky!

  • Absolutely perfect. I'm 51, and this still stands out as one of the most perfect pop songs of my lifetime. Too bad Allen's got leveled in Normaltown. And I still can't believe how this band was able to continue with Keith moving to guitar after Ricky passed. So sad, and yet this song never ceases to pick me up when I'm down. Thank you forever, Lazlo

  • Damn! That snare drum sounds beautiful!

  • proud member of the Dead Beat Club since the 80's. it's groovy man

  • Those two chicks from Dirty Projectors got nothin' on the B-52s!

  • Man, Love this track and be 52s are a great party band .... Thanks for the uplift ;)

  • I'm tryin' to think...

  • i really love this song.

  • "Shiny Happy Peoples" BEFORE the original! I´m not a fan but this song is just DIVINE!

  • oustanding song...let them be...the B52'S!!

  • wonderful band

  • DEAD BEAT CLuuuuuB

    most annoying band ever

  • This is too new for me. I started listening to the B52's in 1982. I was 12 or 13.....although this is catchy, the early stuff is much better in that they are much more involved and creative. By this time they were washed out and lacking in creative motivation.....songs like Private Idaho blow this song away and reflect the early desire to be a part of and help shape the New Wave/Alternative movement.

  • @schulzafari

I totaly agree. Allthough I was born in '82. ^^ I love their early work. Private Idaho, Dance this mess around. Love the energy that they had back then. Wish I could go back in time to the Downtown Coffee and go to their concert in such an "underground" ambient. Awesome band.

  • @schulzafari still, it beats the hell out of the Flintstones soundtrack!

  • 1st view,it's good.

  • 1:18 draco malfoy?!

  • @llamadrama - No, just another CIA plant.

  • say what!

    i don't want a freaking job.

I can live off my evil step mother forever!

    okay!

  • This song takes me back...love the harmonies...

  • I'm a 80s music king for sho and u women. Looked so sexy in that Time frame this black Guy wants to be a part of the dead beat club u go girls sing it again and again

  • Aw this reminds me of being a little kid :)

  • Aw this reminds me of being a little kid :)

  • Takes me back to when life was good and worries were few. Lovin' the B-52's!!

  • @RutnNStrutn Im so with you on that one!!

  • 8 people are dead beats

  • Brilliant song and such great and memorable video. I remember this song from my freshman year in high school. So awesome to rediscover it again.

  • Such a beautiful, honest, warm, and evocative song.

  • Cindy.....so cool as a brunette....Those huge eyes....I defy any guy to say no to those beauties.

  • best. times. ever.

  • they look so.....hot and carefree in this video. It's the kind of video that you wish you could live and actually BE a deadbeat club type life. Sigh. I wonder...is there anyway I can work just enough to be able to afford beer and gas to drive an awesome car from party to party, being a life long deadbeat clubber?

  • Am I crazy? Or does anyone else get the notion that this song inspired REM to write Near Wild Heaven? The songs have such a similar feel to them.

  • @negascoot23 Wouldn't doubt it considering both bands are from Athens, as well Michael Stipe's in this video :/

  • Kate looks kind of like Aubrey Plaza with the sexy eye makeup looking up at the camera

  • Reminds me of my youth!! It's a great song...love this one...thanks for posting

  • Could somebody tell me if the guy at 1:21 is Michael Stipe from REM

  • @80sfreak1979 Yes, that's him. They were all friends.

  • @schroeder8911

I know they all came from Athens Georgia.

  • I saw them tonight in Lexington, KY at the Singletary Center for the Arts on the University of Kentucky campus......just as great now as they were when they were starting out 30 years ago........if you have the chance to go see them, do it.....you'll feel like you're in your 20s all over again!

  • this song sums up me and all my friends. i love them so!

  • awesome song / awesome time ( '90 )

  • This song always puts a smile on my face. Thanks for posting.

  • 1990 was a great year for music.

  • For some reason, this song gives me this adrenalin rush of those good ole days when I was dating this cute blonde. Im so glad I was in that perfect era of music like this and dating.

  • all generations should have days to remember like this

Heck My Generation Needs This Now On Occasion Today Im53 FOR EVER YOUNG!

  • all generations should have days to remember like this

  • Kate.... you're a HOTTIE!

  • This one really brings me back.

I was in 10th grade when Cosmic Thing came out. Me and my friend Kevin would ride around in my car (or his truck) listening to the entire tape countless times. Sometimes we'd stop by the local little league field and hit some over the fence and feel like giants. We mostly just listened to music though. Little did I know those "boring" times would be some of my fondest memories....

Kevin, if you're out there, this is Nick. We had some great times, didn't we?

  • I GREW UP WITH THIS BAND. THEY ARE AMAZING. I WAS 19 THE 1ST TIME I SAW THEM IN CONCERT. NOW I TAKE MY 23 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO SEE THEM IN CONCERT. MAN, I LOVE THEM!

  • GREW UP WITH THIS BAND. THEY ARE AMAZING. I WAS 19 THE 1ST TIME I SAW THEM IN CONCERT. NOW I TAKE MY DAUGHTER TO SEE THEM CONCERT. MAN I LOVE THEM!

  • Fred, we coulda been somethin.

  • It makes me cry with a smile on my face.....

It's all good I miss my old friends, the good times we had. Because of the emotions this song brings out, it's a real sleeper and the best song the B-52s have played.

It brings me back to my college days and my friends in the 70s.

I think it takes us all back to our teens and twenties back when we could get away with not growing up just yet, having fun and maybe a little reckless.

Dancing in the garden in torn sheets in the rain.

  • Oh Cindy your eyes, oh your THEIGHS!

    She’s a 6 on the Budweiser Scale.

    Hubba, hubba!

  • Wow, they just made me type icsytide, the coolest word I've come across.

  • I remember playing my nes system tetris and having this playing in the backround alot lol..love the B's!

  • Kate looks so amazing in Iggy Pops Candy video.

  • Kate looks so amazing in Iggy Pops Candy video. So Ann Margrock

  • nice video , i never knew they had made this

  • Scat, are you talking about the Dollar General on North Dupont Street and Buccaneer Street in Milford, Delaware? If so, I WAS YOUR RIVAL -- the one in the white '70 'Vette with my stonewashed denims and leather vest!!!!!! Wow, who would think that we would finally meet after all these years on youtube! It's just when you said "'78 'stang" my eyes lit up because I remember my hatred for you guys in that parking lot! And by the way, we were way gnarlier!

  • I remember sittin on the hood of my '78 'stang in the Dollar General parking lot with my friends blarin the B52's 8 track. This song in particular would bring our conversations to a hault so we could soak it into our 'staches and denim jean jackets. We were the ones envied in high school, but soon we learned those GT's didn't run life, Petty and the Deadbeat Club did.

  • @SCATTRIDGE23 I was there too Scat. I arrived at Dolla Gen, mounted my courtesy-scooter (walking is such a drag!) sitting side saddle so that my 3 wolf moon tee would show. While browsing tube socks, I could hear aroused asthmatic breathing behind me. I turned around to see a slightly sweaty dream in sweatpants and flip-flops standing there. She told me she liked the wolves on my shirt, I told her I wanted to howl at her moon. She offered me a swig from her mountain dew, the rest is history...

  • @bigdsears lol ive heard that story before !

  • this song is so cool.Takes me back.Alot of good time with this song

  • gay sex feels like heaven with this song at FULL BLAST!

  • and THIS is my most fave B-52's song! loved it then and loving it now! thanks for posting.

  • Micheal Stipe is in this one too!

  • I spent the last week of October in and around the North Carolina barrier islands with my closest friend (we're both in our 40's) and I swear "Cosmic Thing" didn't come out of the CD player once. Incredibly talented band and upbeat tunes, and the content and music of the songs is fun, positive, ironic, funny...a departure from most music now. Thanks for posting.

  • The B52s knew how to rock it and they were the ultimate "feel good" band with that off-beat touch that made them memorable. I lived in Athens, GA in 1980-81 and the one-two punch of the B's and REM who were just playing in local bars then was awesome! Little did I know back then that the best was yet to come from both!

  • sandra bullock comes on about the 145 mark, watch closley, she has a dark brown bob.

  • Brings back a lot of good memories. Oddly enough, I haven't seen this video before though. Thanks for posting!

  • this song is so totally about my old friends & me. We really DID this stuff, including dancing in the garden in the rain. And we WERE wild grrrrls & boys walking down the street going out for a big time.... This song will always take me back.

  • @PeachMcD wish i woulda had friends like that :P

  • ... This song by the B52's came out sometime after I graduated high school, & it brings back fond memorys for me & the people I grew up with ... Again forget the Albums name, but other tracks on the album included Love Shack, Rome that I can remember ... Only Goodtimes peeps ... :-) ...

  • and sandra bullock is dancing in the video

  • @MrNedrob100 Where?!

  • This Album came out as I was a Junior at UGA. Being in Athens when the Bombers and REM were both in their prime was amazing! I knew I was having a great time but in retrospect its even better!

  • I've loved this song from the first time I heard it. Like so many of you, I had my own Deadbeat Club made up of my 2 kid brothers and my kid sister and me. We broke into an amusement park that had closed for the winter and one of my brothers started up some of the rides. You can imagine how that felt. It was our finest hour, out of many, I suppose. What really cemented this song for me was, like Cindy, one of my brothers died of AIDS, too. I'm very glad this song was written.

  • @willsauntfoofoo1 That sounds fun, kinda like they did in National Lampoons Vacation, when the Griswalds get John Candy to start up all the rides. I'm sorry to hear of your loss though, but keep on truckin'

  • @willsauntfoofoo1

    Yea. I'm calling BS.

  • @willsauntfoofoo1 that is the greatest thing i've ever heard in my life

  • Damn that's a cool video. :)

  • Thanks for posting. Great memories Match Day 1991. Found out I got the residency I wanted. This song was our party theme

  • Always actually liked this one more than Love Shack and Roam. Wasn't nearly as big a hit, though...................go figure.

  • A dose of this song a day makes the pain go away.

  • This song makes me fly and remember all my youth. Makes me cry and feel that I haven't got one second to lose in this life.

  • And all the songs on Whammy

  • My God

    thank you b's

    Most beautiful song

  • memories of the youth :)

  • I wish i had friends who liked this song............................i love it. I want them to listen to the words but they just laugh at me. i wish i had friendswho didn't just care about "saturday night' or "we r who we r', theymiss out. I love cindy (as a role model of course) and kate. In this video especially. 14 and loving the b52s

  • During the making of this video is when i fell in love with Cindy!! To bad for me, that i didnt tell her! Miss you guys and miss working with all of the gang!! Oli Oli

  • I really like this song and he ruins it. Really annoys me. It's not like he actually sings. I think I'm gonna edit all his bits out.

  • I wanna be a card carrying member of the Deadbeat Club

  • This song reminds me of being at Michigan State University and going to Expresso Royale and just kicking it after a late night of studying...

  • bad quality

  • Que buen tema!!! Kate, sos una grosaaaa!!! Aguante Los B52´s

  • Thanks for posting. I had forgotten about this video. Nice memories

  • This song is my favourite. Though none of my friends actually like it they don't listen to the words. This song is the greatest and although i am a gen y i can not tell people enough about this song. Why do people hate this band? they have, in my eyes, changed the world one step at a time

  • @whatthehellyouweirdo Totally agree, they really get to me this band-always have...particularly this song! Magic.

  • @thewafflewaitress I totally agree. Its bittersweet to hear this. Good memories, but I really miss that time in my life.

  • @happyhead64 I think some people – like b52's guys – shouldn't get old. Well, I can't see this video without crying.

  • @thewafflewaitress if you like this song maybe try 'girl from ipanmea goes to greenland'

  • Nothing last forever...........except in your mind. I still love this song.

  • Total talent,Kate looks sooo cute.Hot dang.............

  • Awwwww, such fond memories :)

  • Very well said . NeotRonCorp

  • i love the B52s

  • Let's party!

  • Kate ! Love her

  • "Get a job?"

    "What for?"

    Exactly!

  • @centurion180ad Get a career! ;)!

  • It's like we're in heaven man

  • Going back to when this came out...i live in Scotland (Castles, Lochs, and Kilts!) (a land that is born of drinking-culture!)..the sun'd be shinin' through the pub windae in my local and this tune used to ring out on a Saturday afternoon! ;) Good time tunes and a good time band! I could never hope tae emulate the 'happy' aspect o' the song-writing!?!?? Happy Genius...

  • Very cool.

  • Mr. Stipe and the B-52 are from the same town.....yeah, that was him

  • @Frankyhollywood68

    Athens GA

  • Sure is Mr. Stipe!

  • Is that Michael Stipe at 1:21?

  • @adunston39 yep

  • this song must be played in one of the episodes of "cold case"!!

  • Memories is right, youth truely is wasted on the youth.

  • Yeah- I was a member of the deadbeat club until I realized that Christians aren't too welcome

  • When life was crazy good.

  • I'm deadbeat

  • this is one of my favorite videos ever

  • I don't think of the girls in this band as being real babes or whatever, but what's-her-name does look pretty hot in this one.

  • this is the probably best video out there. the girls are amazing :)

  • 4:22 Cindy, so cute !

  • I wish Youtube could create like an 80s chat room.....not like aol though, just good ole 80s time chat:)

  • Robynsegg...........You couldnt have said it better. I read your post and actually giggled and smiled. I remember those late nights hanging out, eating, laughing, and listening to these great tunes that some how put me in this trance:)

  • Miss U Bob, 4 Ever, 4 Real :-(

  • I heard this today for the 1st time in 20 years on 92.5 the River in Boston! I loved that summer-I met my wife then & took the summer off to hang. Great times!!!

  • Love Kate!!!!! Thanks : )!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have always loved this song. B-52's, are you getting mystical on me? For some reason, relly touching. This was my daughter's favorite band when she was two years old, and one of mine too.

  • this song is in regular rotation on Muzak. Heard in a couple of years back at the outlets in hershey, Pa...been in my head ever since...

  • Ahhh! The good old days before paying bills!

  • How ironic this song is, that brings old friends together to remember the good times is about a deadbeats but none of us are deadbeats at any level and are in the same club of great memories!

  • Reminds me of just hanging out with my Deadbeat Friends :)

  • 8pasta, they were very good, happy times when life seemed fun and carefree. Everytime I hear this or any other 80s tune, it takes me back to just good ole fun days:)

  • me too...

  • This song captures a piece of history for so many of us. I think that it helps us gen-x "kids" to recall the simpler times of our youth. Maybe we can take a lesson from this remembering and go out and celebrate who we are now. Call up your friends and go dancing tonight. Just do it...

  • Great song to hangout with some friends on a sunny day and do meth

  • WilliamG1970...........you got that one right!!!

  • This song makes me cry!!! I love it!!! (j.c from chile)

  • micheal stipe @1:22
