Monsieur Cleese has clearly in his countenance what folk does call natural authority! This is why he plays in Monty Python all the key authority figures, which do make the life on our cosy little planet free prosperous and save like Adolf Hitler, the Pope, English officers, Reg (leader of the terrorist organisation People’s Front of Judea), Sir Lancelot the Brave, the right hand of Pontius Pilate, managers or police officers. I think the authority folk should take him for their role model!
Oh, and if you're ever wondering where a clip has been posted from, checking the poster's profile will usually tell you; in this case it was: Belgium.
It is Dutch (I'm a Dutch/English translator and lived there for many years). Although I left ten years ago and things might have changed, I understood that Flemish is a dialect or the name given to Dutch-speaking Belgians, not a language in itself, the official languages of Belgium being Dutch and French.
I don't mean to dis Belgians here: on Tien Voor Taal (tricky language quiz show) they always did better than the Dutch. I miss Robert Long!
omg! jk rowling stole cockroach cluster. i like how this makes the point that just because people are fancy about food doesn't mean it's good :P i've been trying to express that for years
UY. I wanted to do a test but apparently I have to download ALL THE PLUGS. Can someone with audacity chipmunk the audio of the sketch and put it on YouTube for a wannabe test I wanted to make. Seems like a pretty stupid test to you.
Yes, this was following on from the same character on film - can't remember exactly what - and so this 'hello' was like a continuation of that. That's why it got a laugh.
God, I've been quoting THIS scetch so long, I forgot how the scetch even looked! Wonderful memories! Monte Python and Speed Racer and not to forget Kimba the White lion made the world the fun, innocent place it ONCE was!
Indeed it is Flemish, i'm dutch and know the language, altough the word praline gave it away (you wouldn't say it in NORMAL dutch). You could also tell it by the logo in the top left corner, canvas is a Flemish television broadcaster.
yes, she nicked a lot of ideas from other things, some say homage some say plagerism. Have a look at the Worst Witch stories... an academy for witches etc. written a long time before Harry Potter.
I'm Dutch.. and I assure you that the Dutch language is not similar to German. It's actually got plenty of English and French influences which set it aside from the German language.

For some reason i thought they were saying lark's vomit...which wouldn't be all that unusual (for MP) but, oh well :D
spookette 5 years ago
They ARE saying "Lark's Vomit." :)
That's always been the line. I've known this routine inside-out for 15 years.
McRat1968 5 years ago
I was going by what all the other commentators were saying...and anyway, lox vomit doesn't make any sense ^.^

Looks like Dutch to me.

The language is, in itself, similar to German, so I'm going to guess Swedish or something of the sort.
