Growing up I used to watch wrestling from the Olympic on the UHF station 41 in NYC every week before cable tv came around. Used to love listening to Jimmy Lennon. Raul Mata I think was the champ then.
I remeber the Blassie v Tolos series of matches. Bloody good. One match, both guys wore leather studded neck collars, to protect from Blassie's "bite", and Tolos' knee drop. Blassie was a major face in LA, until he up and abruptly left and came to WWWF to challenge Pedro Morales. Tolos should have come east to challenge Morales as well. Great wrestling from the Olympic back then.
@Luizojeda1 I got your message to Bengali. He said "eramos bien camaradas". He was happy to hear from you. I found a few matches of Bengali vs. John Tolos, Al Madril and a tag team match with Victor Rivera and Coloso Colosetti against Mr. Mexico, Romero and Big Ben I just put up on Youtube. Do you have any ideas where I might look to find more? Any suggestions would be appreciated. The whole family really enjoyed them.Thank you Mr. Marquez.
Please accept my condolences that Bengali is alive and well. No I'm just kidding send him my regards and tell him what I said here at the start, thanks. PISTOL PETE MARQUEZ
Bengali is doing fine, just got to see him and his youngest daughter at family reunion last week. Looks good and danced with the girls all night. He still has the moves. Same old Bengali. Thanks, I hope I get to see the match you speak of.
Do you have any video with Bengali from Fresnillo Zacatecas? He is my uncle and I am always searching for old matches of his. He wrestled at the Olympic in the 70's. I have a couple Rowdy Piper movies he was in as one of Los Medicos too. Let me know I will pay for your troubles. THNKS!
I did have those recordings but they were stolen from a friend who had borrowed them. I go back in time when I hear these recordings and Dick Lane is alive and well!
i stoped watching wrestling on KTLA 5 around mid 1974 because it started to go down hill, but bangbang if you could find the tape of jimmy lennon singing classy blassie on the ring and john tolos throwing powder at blassie you know MY EYES MY EYES, now those are classics thx.
@bangbang6x Yes please very much interested. I grew up watching all the TV shows from the Olympic and went there and to the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium whenever I could. Fred Blassie was my favorite.
@bangbang6x very much so...grw up in the LA area in the 60's and 70's and remember watching these matches on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights on KTLA....
Thanks for posting. I loved watching these matches on TV when I was a kid! The Dick Lane/Jimmy Lennon audio was a total flashback. Blassie-Tolos with Black Gordman...classic!
I wish I had recorded more and I wish I had'nt lost some of those audio tapes....
