You forgot the Transfer Pak. Sure, very few games used it, but it's worth mentioning. Much like the add-on to play Atari 2600 games on a Colecovision or the ones to play Gameboy on the SNES or the Gamecube, the Transfer Pak allowed you to play GameBoy games on the N64, or plug in the GameBoy Camera, which was going to be used in Perfect Dark to put photographed faces onto Multiplayer skins. It might have been used for other games. (Most likely a few japanese-only games.)
Although the only gameboy games I know of were the four Pokémon games. (Japanese-only Green, or Red, Blue and Yellow.) And you had to have Pokémon Stadium or Pokémon Stadium 2 in the cartridge slot at the same time.
And I was right. Mario Artist for the 64DD used the Gameboy Camera via the Transfer Pak. Go on Wikipedia and search for any accessory to learn more.
I didnt like golden eye at all. The control wasnt too great...and couldnt that gun be straight.. why slanted. its hard to target. and he moves from left to right too quick.
My Internet connection is crappy at the moment and the video won't load. I plan on getting the expansion pack and perfect dark soon, but can you run Goldeneye in high resolution with the extra ram?
@MN12BIRD That sucks. That's the only thing I don't like about it is the blurry graphics but I don't care too much about it; After all it's Goldeneye! Thanks for letting me know.
I'm doing this on a cell phone so I can't do the reply bullshit, but hopefully you see this .... Shadow Man, Rayman 2, 007 the world is not enough, Turok 2 seeds of evil, quest 64, diddy kong racing (time trials), some shitty sports games (NBA etc...), and I know there are more but those are the games I've personally experienced that have needed a memory card.
@suxatguitar1 Meh, could be better. I think I have about 25 games. But they're pretty much all good ones so that's cool! I need to get Conkers Bad Fur Day for sure though that's one I'm missing so far.
N64's hold there value so well, the games do to. they might not have been the best at the time but who even wants a ps1 these days... i play my n64 all the time. It has great games, ps1 has good games but nothing really unique, look at conkers bad fur day.
I wish I had a Saturn or a PSX as a kid. There are a handful of games on the N64 that I like but overall it was the first system I realized I stopped liking new games.
@Number1StarSB Totally agree dude. I had an N64 and my older brother had a ps1. The ps1 had street fighter and a ton of other cool games. I preferred the ps1 to the N4
ahhhh goldeneye love it, talk about taking a trip down memory lane. i had a friend who had a 64 and i had a PS1, and every couple of months we would swap consoles and games. it was great playing tomb raider, Metal gear, gran turismo, crash bandicoot fo 3 months then swap and play golden eye, mario 64, mario kart, super smash brothers, perfect dark. they where both great consoles back in the day i could not fault any of them
wow talk about a trip down memory lane, back in the day i remember that whole upside down playstation theory, which was one of the reasons why I stayed away from the PS1 (that and i was a bit of a nintendo fanboy back then). But other than the Zelda, Mario, and Goldeye the N64 didn't really appeal to me... oh the Star War games were pretty good too.
I personally will never understand the appeal of first person shooters such as Goldeneye 007. Every time I play one I get motion sick from the rotating camera, and I get bored to death and want to play something else. And the thing I hated about the Nintendo 64 was the fact that almost every game had really dark graphics, causing me to have to turn the bright up on my tv. The darkness alone made me motion sick in many games.
@rockyhorror1297 No you have to have the jumper in there if you don't have the ram expansion pak in there. The jumper pak comes in them stock and if you take it out the thing wont work.
hey MN something is going on with this video, its getting all these weird glitches near the bottom of the screen. It didn't use to to this. Just thought you might wanna know maybe youtube is having issues processing old video format uploads or something.
I'd hook up every 3D system to a big HD tv from Sega Saturn to today's systems to a big HD tv, because they diserve it. As for the old 2D systems like the Atari 2600 to the Sega Genesis, they should be connected to an old tube tv, mostley for the light gun games.
when will we see 228 bit or 1000 bit the goverment and industry have stuff 30 years ahead of what we have now.. they hold back so that they can get our money
@IRONMAIDENFAN2006 I think it might be that 64-bit is hard enough to program for and arguably in gaming does little over 32-bit already. Look at PC games on 32-bit they can outshine some PS3 games. Going 128-bit just makes no sense for programming games. But I could be wrong that's just what I think.
I kind of like the external power supply. If for some reason it would fry, you could just get a new one and plug it in. Now that I look back, the N64's power supply was small compared to the 360's one. That thing is a huge brick and could kill anyone. I never really finished Goldeneye's single player mode. For some reason, whenever I got to a door, it would not open and I would have to wait for an enemy to open it. Plus my English was limited. The multiplayer, however, did work for me for hours.
@EFFINGNOOBTUBE Whats wrong with that TV it's a 27" JVC with 2x Composite, Component and S-Video inputs aka perfect for older games! I don't have any HD consoles so why would I care for anything else?
You really should semi re-shoot this vid, 1 for the cut off but mainly because when you try to show off the N64 controller you have it below the camera view so you can't see what you are talking about.
@MN12BIRD They aren't bad at all actually, I really enjoy your older video's where you talked more about the history/specs etc. of the system/games over just showing 10 minutes of game play footage.
im only 13 so you would probably think im more intrested in the new consoles. but im actually more intrested in the old consoles like this. they give you something the xbox 360 and ps3 cant give.
@DemSpecSniperXP I am only 15 and I could play these older vintage games for hours non-stop, but todays games like Mw2, MOH, and GoW I cannot play for more than 30-60 minutes....
I think, but am not sure, that the Atari 5200 was the first to ahve 4 controller ports. But they later changed it and gave it two. But you can buy them with 4. But there may have been some before that.
Wish you would do more in depth reviews like this; don't get me wrong your video's are cool but these older one's were much informative and fun to hear/watch.
The games for the N64 seemed alot better than the games that were released for the GC , and I thought that the N64 controler was better to use ( once you got used to it ) , in saying that I bought alot more games for my GC than I did for my N64 , probably because they were alot cheaper ,
In my oppinion the N64 was a better consol , I also think that it was by far the best consol of its generation , well better than the PS1 ,
only in your oppinion - I agree with goodkat2 BANJO KAZOOIE is a classic N64 game , TOOIE came out verynear the death of the N64 and alot of people never bought it , thats why it doesnt get mentioned as much KAZOOIE , and thats why it sooo expensive these days to buy , its a rare game and i am not just talkin about the makers lol
after saying all that I agree that TOOIE is an excellernt game BUT better than KAZOOIE , not in my book
@SCOTTISHFILMFAN u have a good point but in my books tooie was better than kazooie but we can all agree the zelda games were awsome in my opinion it was better than any other game on n64 besides smash brothers just going to bring this up every one thought old school games died when the ps1 did i think thats stupid cause all the classics have cartridges not disks but anyways the old school games actually died after n64.....................why did i bring that up well u get me right?
yeah man agree with ya ,the best old school games were on the N64 , had prob the best time of my gaming life with that little consol , it had many classic games ,also agreed zelda ott is prob the best game ever, took me months to complete the water temple lol
right now am playing banjo nuts and bolts , only about a quarter of the way through , has massive boards with not alot going on in them , and so far KAZOOIE has virtually nothing to do ,though am still enjoying playing it :)
Damn damn damn my 64 is buried under 2 tons of crap in storage I hope I get a new for Christmas(yes I ask for it) if not I'll buy a new one, also doesn't the Gamecube use the same tv out outs as the N64 if so I'll probably be able to buy one cheaper.
The max processor would be 24-32 bit processor for such a system. The ps1 was a 24 bit system but it was 1995 like the SEGA saturn. If the n64 was 1996, then it must be closer to 24 bit. The gamecube was 32 bit, and the Wii is 64 bit.
The power brick on the N64 was there because there is a power splitter in that box which takes the wall power and converts it to 12V DC and a 1.5V DC power. The 12v for the system and the 1.5v for the jumper/expansion pack.
i need help. i had my n64 for since day one. and yestorday i played it for 15 minutes and then all of a sudden some bars showed up and i couldnt see the game. it happened for EVERY game i tested . 5 different games. -.- is it broken / dirty/ or needs repair? what should i do. i love it too much to just throw it away.
:( i wish i could figure out how to fix it. i hate the thought of replacing it. lol idk i got really attached to it when i was little. guess im still holding on.
I love my N64 its the limited edition, Pokemon Stadium edition. not the pikachu but the rare pokemon stadium one, its in perfect condition, and I just love N64!
My god it is so irritating to watch these fantastic videos of your reviews, only to have the comments absolutely FILLED with fanboyism. Long live NES, SNES,
WTF!!! Jeez cartridges were the best! you could drop them and woulden't break. and the CD's scratch. Nowadays I say they should use cartridges insted of cd's
I thought that the first system with an analog controller was the Atari 5200? It doesn't really matter though, you could argue that the 5200 wasn't "mainstream" anyway. Great vid man, really informative review, keep up the good work!
They wear out? Not nearly as fast as a CD/DVD based system wears out. The laser, all the little gears and motors wear out and then it wont read discs. Cart based systems are much more reliable over time than optical based ones.
Maybe we could get a cartridge for future gaming. It would be one cartridge and you could put any game disc in it for the console. And the picture on the cartridge would change to the game! That would be cool...
lol the thing about the playstation upside down is true. but i didn;'t turn it upside down i just stood it up vertically and it worked. that was the end of the life of my ps1 during 1999 . never owned a n64 but my cousin did. it was fun! specially the pokemon stadium games.
N64 is awesome, I have one, I really wanna get Mario 64. When I was younger this was like the only system I played, except for the Playstation 2, but I ws obsessed with the N64
Me too, man! Everyone just thought CDs were cheaper and easier to use and they held alot more memory. Cartridges were really expensive back then because it was hard to put games on them or something like that? I don't know, what the Hell! I love the N64!
Good review!

The max processor would be 24-32 bit processor for such a system. The ps1 was a 24 bit system but it was 1995 like the SEGA saturn. If the n64 was 1996, then it must be closer to 24 bit. The gamecube was 32 bit, and the Wii is 64 bit.

does nintendo 64 have the same cables as snes...ino that the AV cable is the same but what about the rest?
luke4liverpool 2 years ago
AV cables are the same but that's in there is no coaxial RF on the N64 at all you had to buy an adapter to get RF.

@Inuboy1000 super nintendo is my fav
jakeyray18 1 year ago
The power brick on the N64 was there because there is a power splitter in that box which takes the wall power and converts it to 12V DC and a 1.5V DC power. The 12v for the system and the 1.5v for the jumper/expansion pack.

Honestly I would believe that, the n64 is one sturdy system, built to last.

Sounds to me like the Video Card is failing.
Wootsickles 2 years ago 2
:( i wish i could figure out how to fix it. i hate the thought of replacing it. lol idk i got really attached to it when i was little. guess im still holding on.
photonarbiter 2 years ago 2
I wouldn't trash it. You may take it into someone who knows a bit about it. It could be a simple fix.

My god it is so irritating to watch these fantastic videos of your reviews, only to have the comments absolutely FILLED with fanboyism. Long live NES, SNES,
N64, PS1, and PS2.

WTF!!! Jeez cartridges were the best! you could drop them and woulden't break. and the CD's scratch. Nowadays I say they should use cartridges insted of cd's
MasterCosgrove 2 years ago 3
I prefer cartridges also, but unfortunantly CD's can hold more memory.
papowyproductions 2 years ago 5
i prefer catridges because of basically no lload times
nes72pin 2 years ago 3
And they are harder to break, and they are JUST PLAIN AWESOME.

FLASH MEMORY! They could make it happen.
Flash memory game console.
They'd have to load, but a helluva lot faster.

I remember borrowing my friends modded ps1 and most the games I had to turn the ps1 upside down to play them ;)

I thought that the first system with an analog controller was the Atari 5200? It doesn't really matter though, you could argue that the 5200 wasn't "mainstream" anyway. Great vid man, really informative review, keep up the good work!
xBADxGAMESx 2 years ago
Yeah I think some 5200's even had 4 controller ports. But that thing never really caught on
MN12BIRD 2 years ago
i want to know do you accept requests? if you do i would like you to revieq 1080 on the n64
RorytheRetrokid 2 years ago
@xBADxGAMESx The Vectrex also had an analog stick, though Vectrex was hardly mainstream either. But it should have been!

they should make another cartridge console. but the bad thing is, they wear out.
litteboxer 2 years ago
They wear out? Not nearly as fast as a CD/DVD based system wears out. The laser, all the little gears and motors wear out and then it wont read discs. Cart based systems are much more reliable over time than optical based ones.
MN12BIRD 2 years ago
i still play this outstanding system evennow it was on of nintendos bvest and revolutionary system.
that statement comes from the heart:)

cartridges
Likes: no loading times, lot more durable than CDs
Dislikes: Lower sound quality, more expensive to make, cant contain as much storage memory as CDs

man nintendo needs to go back to normal controllers

cartridges ftw!!!!
harrypottersucks12 2 years ago
Maybe we could get a cartridge for future gaming. It would be one cartridge and you could put any game disc in it for the console. And the picture on the cartridge would change to the game! That would be cool...
h5e5l5l5o5 2 years ago
i know cartridges also save your game on it and it would be awesome to make a future cartridge console

lol the thing about the playstation upside down is true. but i didn;'t turn it upside down i just stood it up vertically and it worked. that was the end of the life of my ps1 during 1999 . never owned a n64 but my cousin did. it was fun! specially the pokemon stadium games.
SupaDupaaFlyy 2 years ago
N64 is awesome, I have one, I really wanna get Mario 64. When I was younger this was like the only system I played, except for the Playstation 2, but I ws obsessed with the N64

they should make a game on Wiiware that has 64 bit graphics....like how MegaMan 9 did for 8 bit graphics
wariofan259 2 years ago 4
I don't mind the cartridges. In fact, I like them more than disks ,because they're easier to clean and don't get scratched.
NINTENDOSEGAGUY 2 years ago 3
Me too, man! Everyone just thought CDs were cheaper and easier to use and they held alot more memory. Cartridges were really expensive back then because it was hard to put games on them or something like that? I don't know, what the Hell! I love the N64!
