@exorcist1701 - maybe you should find something else to do when you're bored besides posting useless comments on someone's video. Feel free to not watch it!
mikedev, I am not making any point for you at all. Johnny didn't sing this song with June in mind. How do you know he did? He liked the song. That's all. I guarantee you, he wouldn't use this song going with those pics of him and June. Of course, you can do whatever you want. And right, at this point in his life he wouldn't be wasting his time singing any tune for Vivian. But ***you*** chose to use this song and these pictures. Not Johnny.
LOL... you must be talking to me, eh? I'm not screaming. Just making a point. Love the story of June and Johnny. Cash does Lightfoot's tune justice. But Cash's love for June does not go with the lyrics of Lightfoot's song. Video of Johnny and Vivian Liberto would have worked. He stopped loving her the day he met June.
-
By all means...do appreciate life without comment.
You're kind of making my point - he wouldn't have wasted his time singing about Vivian - he loved June and, in my opinion, he was singing this song with the emotion of having lost the love of his life, but wishing he could get her back. Also, in my opinion, you can't take the words he sings literally, you have to put them in the context of his emotional state. It's just my opinion, nobody else has to agree, so you can believe what you want and I'll continue thinking this.
Well alot of hate, some things in life such as the Syn, the stars, even the stars at night Cash saw, captured, and shared to us all in song. Somrtimes technology is more than needes, and I love this video. I can add his voice from memory, I can simply watch and appreciate real life without an announcer, without comment. So to you screaming, you never really were a true cadh fan, want the real deal? Sorry, sucks to be you :)
Okay...did you see the movie? The script was approved by both June and Johnny before they died. No where in their time together or time separated [before they married] did they lose passion for each other - ESPECIALLY Johnny. The melody is so beautiful, lyrics haunting and heartbreaking; it's easy to mistake it for a love song. I believe Cash sang it cuz it's a GREAT the song - no doubt. Period. You cannot turn this song into a love song. Can't make the lyrics into a meaning they aren't.
This doesn't make any sense. You have one of the greatest love stories - Johnny & June, and you use this song? It doesnt work! The lyrics are about not wanting someone anymore, not about a couple in love with each other. Hell! If a guy was singing this song with me in mind I'd be walking out the door right after the lyric: ..."I don't know where we went wrong, but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back." .....Glad the audio is off.
VenusCapricorn, you obviously don't know much about Johnny Cash if you think he could sing this song and not turn it into a love song. He was sad having just lost June before he recorded this. Yes, I know Gordo's version is about a relationship gone bad, but Johnny, as he often did, turned the song into something different and personal regardless of the actual lyrics. Obviously, I'm not the only person who thought the same when listening to Johnny's version. Same lyrics - very different songs.
I ran into the same problem with youtube i made a slideshow and they removed the music. I would like to know the difference between listening to the songs on the radio or listening to them on Youtube. If i buy a CD i realize i dont own the songs but can i not share that same cd with my friends, relatives and neighbors?
Right! NAZITUBE!!! Or rather NAZI RECORD LABELS.. When does the music industry realize that NOBODY is going to buy more records because of them sanctioning the distribution or spreading wrong facts about the rights of the consumer. All they do is to mourn after the days when they made the big money by selling records. Here is an advice: WAKE UP and start giving artists more than 20 pence for a sold record and sell records for a quarter or at least half the price and you'll earn more than now!
I agree and disagree... I agree that the listening masses are being held by the proverbial balls by the the industry because the greedy few fear losing their bonuses, but I believe (maybe a little naively) that eventually music will return to it's roots.... I think what I'm trying to say is, free music is the only real music. You work it out from there
No apologies here...this SUCKs without audio. I know June loved Johnny and vice versa but if I wanted to see a video about it I would search "Johnny loves June" instead of "Johnny Cash if you could read my mind" which I guess is what the viewer attempts here, huh?
Nobody's asking for your apology. It's my video and I had to either remove the audio or remove the whole video. I chose to leave it up. That way, any true JC fan can just simply play the song while my video is playing and it will be exactly the same. What? You don't approve? Well tough shit then - don't watch it. Tell you what, why don't you go watch all the other Johnny Cash "If you could read my mind" videos on YouTube then?
man i get sick of this copyright shit. I mean it is promoting your song all this does when they make people take it off here is piss all of us off and make us never want to buy another record from these twisted record companies. Dude, seriously, if someone has the song and wants to play it with the video, then they can. I don't see how it "fucks" with the search results that much as it's only one vid. If ya don't like it, don't view it - I don't see how it's that big a deal.
Hehe, I never expected an apology would get such a reaction in the comments here. I just read the other comments and it is remarked upon a number of times. Maybe I should act like a jerk and apologize after wards more often? =P
i found and got acopy of the audio. this was VERY haunting piece. but i loved it. a totally different mood from gordon lightfoot whom i like as well. johhy's version, was a bit of a different mood. to me anyway. but a WONDERFUL version/rendition
Thanks for the comments everyone. I truly appreciate it. The reason I left the vid up w/o sound is that if you have the song on your computer, you can play it while watching the vid - then it works as it should.
No, Cash sang it and made it his own (a different meaning than Gordon Lightfoot intended). I used Cash's song, but I had to remove the audio because I was forced to remove it due to copyright infringement.
is this "selective" copyright infringement? I ask because there are thousands of videos on Youtube by original artists by individuals who don't own the rights. It sucks that they singled you out.
I really don't get it. I know Johnny Cash didn't like anyone making one of his recordings available for anyone to hear w/o having to buy it, but if anything, vids like mine encourage people to buy the CD or songs and I had no intention of making anything from it - just a tribute. It does suck.
Johnny Cash's one true love was Vivian Liberto, but they got divorced because of his drugs, and if it weren't for his drugs they would have stayed together. Vivian said in her book, that she loved Johnny up until the day she died. She also said that she really cried when Johnny died.
I have read many books and many things on internet, tv, magazines, and every other place on Johnny Cash. I have read even Marshall Grant's book I Was There When It Happened, and I Walked The Line by Vivian Liberto Cash Distin, and believe that they are telling the absolute truth in both books. And it is not rubbish sir, because I have read many misleading things on Johnny Cash, and got the truth out of both of the books I have named. I am a hardcore Johnny Cash since I was born.
Just because she REALLY cried doesn't mean she was he's soul mate.......she may think so but he certainly didn't. I am a miss not sir but I have a brother of 55 who is a REAL hardcore johnny fan. I was bought up listening to him tell me all about the great 'man in black' sorry to sound harsh but june was johnny's true love sir!
Listen here mam, I am autistic, and I am a very hardcore Johnny Cash fan myself, and I listen to him everyday, and I have done so ever since my family put headphones on my ears since I was 6 months old with Johnny Cash's, and his music was the only music that would soothe me, and he was music therapy, because his music helped me learn how to read, and do other things, and I have researched through books, internet, tv, magazines and other stuff.
Yes, I do know that. I also believe that although Johnny knew that too, he took the song and made it his own like he did with other songs. If you read my description, I said that. It's clear to me that Johnny was thinking of June when he sang this song. I like Gordon Lightfoot too.
*NOTE* I had to remove the audio from this video as it was in copyright violation. I decided to keep the video on anyway as the pics still show Johnny's love for June. Sorry for the missing audio.
Wow... His voice may not be at its peak, but the loneliness is painfully obvious at the loss of his beloved wife. I'd like to believe they're together again, somehow, somewhere.
This is so raw and intense. I can feel him singing to the spirit of June Carter.Johnny is the real king and this incredible rendition further cements his greatness.
This version is a very powerful take on an already powerful song. The Gordon Lightfoot original is exquisite in its beauty. This version is full of something undefinable. Whatever it is it is utterly compelling....
give him a break man...he was pretty damn close to the end at this point.I think its really just a last tribute album to recordings that johnny always loved. Its actually quite sad.
lightfoot version is good, meaning something to lightfoot when he sang it. obviously it meant something to both johnny cash to sing it and for gordon lightfoot to have a legend such as johnny cash to sing it
This is a lot sadder than GL's version, both are really good. JC has(Had RIP) the ability to cover songs and make them his own, as in NIN, Neil Diamond, etc.
The conveyor belt of life... we can not stop it, when those before you reach the end- off they drop.. your turn is next..and then those behind.. so enjoy your time and be kind
It's funny, Lightfoot has cited his divorce as inspiration for this song, but I just lost someone very close to me and have not been able to get his song out of my head or cd player. I can see why Johnny's feeling it so much. RIP Johnny, June, and my Mem...
Everything in context. Lightfoot's version is the standard and the best, but this version by Cash is absolutely wonderful - a hauntung, heavy version that is almost too much to bear. Beautiful
I believe that at this point of his life, he had gained a certain clarity and sense of our true eternal nature - that of Divine Consciousness. What a magnificent expression ol' JR was.
he was a classic singer he was able 2 do what so many singers these days dont do . . he sung with heart and meaning. . his words ment something and he was able 2 show his emotions in his voice. . johnny rocks and will always b a fave of mine . . and im a young gun . .lol . nice job on the vid!
Wow. This is just an awesome song, one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, Lightfoot's version is great too, but I just love Johnny Cash. His voice conveys so much emotion and strength. The images add depth to the song as well. Awesome job!
Johnny Cash will never get the credit he deserves. Want to see what a true innovator, musician, artist, loving human is like? Check out the Best of the Johnny Cash Show on DVD. It will show you performances and things you'll cry and laugh over. Get the 2 DVD set if you can - the single set with the CD included is nice, but I got both, the 2 DVD set is best. Trust me, you'll love it!!!!
Johnny Cash is an American Icon. A man who was able to capture the very essence of a song and put it into the listeners heart with all the emotion he could muster. RIP Johnny.
Johnny Cash was a one of a kind musician; in the house I grew up in, he was the be all and end all; when I liked the Beatles, Hermits Hermits and that damned Bob Dylan, dad used Johnny to denigrate everything I liked, and I came to hate Johnny Cash. I came to love him again when I learned just how broad minded he was, and how much he appreciated all music. My dad was the bigot; his idol the true hero.
I also grew up in a household where Johnny Cash's music was appreciated. The San Quentin album was played a lot. My grandmother was a huge fan. How ironic that your dad didn't care for Bob Dylan when Cash and Dylan admired each other quite a bit. At 43 I am re-discovering Dylan and Cash and am a huge fan of both.
I live down the road from San Quinton - now I have a newfound respect for it. Like Cadlestick will always be the last real Beatles Concert location, San Quinton is now a place Johnny Cash played, and a historical sight now for it, in my book.
you should have kept the video on your PC!! and watch it when you are bored ! not on you tube ..

Read the information, dummy! He recorded it shortly after his wife June died, and not long before he himself passed on.

Beuatiful. Amazing. Love the original song (gordan lightfoot you are not forgotten) but this version rips my heart to bits...

It's so hard to choose, so I'll say:
Both versions are great.

Beautiful

People need to understand John was in poor health when he sang this song. R.I.P johnny

Bless Johnny Cash, wherever he is, but I have to agree that I like Lightfoot's version much better.

Wrong! This is a great song, and yes it IS a cover version from the 'hundred highways' album by Johnny in 2005.
Gordon had it in the charts in 1971 and a fantastic vocal job he did on it too.
Written by Lightfoot and covered much later by Cash.
Excellence.

I believe that at this point of his life, he had gained a certain clarity and sense of our true eternal nature - that of Divine Consciousness. What a magnificent expression ol' JR was.

The emotion in this is so infectious. Thanks so much. As a really lonely new widow I can identify with this.

Fantastic! This is such a great "cover!" My favorite song on the CD, after "On The Evening Train."

My dad was the bigot; his idol the true hero.
mweland 4 years ago 2
Great video.
