Also, in my opinion, you can't take the words he sings literally, you have to put them in the context of his emotional state. Okay...did you see the movie? The script was approved by both June and Johnny before they died. No where in their time together or time separated [before they married] did they lose passion for each other - ESPECIALLY Johnny. The melody is so beautiful, lyrics haunting and heartbreaking; it's easy to mistake it for a love song. I believe Cash sang it cuz it's a GREAT the song - no doubt. Period. You cannot turn this song into a love song. Can't make the lyrics into a meaning they aren't.
