  • Always liked this song,it reminds me of good times and at the time they were

  • I bought the Rio album because of Hungry Like the Wolf on the radio. When I put the tape in my Walkman and this song started, my heart near-about stopped. The bass line captured me and I've been a Duran Duran fan ever since. To this day, this song swells my heart.

  • Never mind what happened to MTV - what happened to music videos in general? About 7-8 years ago, before I knew about YouTube, I just assumed that videos weren't made anymore. Where else are they even shown?

  • Rio ,make me feel ..Alive Alive Aliiive

  • The 80's was magic

  • wish i could go back to the time this was on top of the pops i had no worrys about anything. i can remember long hot summers and MJ thriller video about the same time on betamax

  • By me there is something special in bands like Duran Duran and Pink Floyd,

with all respect for the other rock band, but when this guys are together you

see an only soul,is fantastic ! Thank you forever guys.

  • Vorrei tornar giovane diobono!!!

  • The guitar and bass in this song...are absurdly difficult to play. I never cared much for them as a band, but they definitely deserve some credit for having been able to perform it as such. o.o

  • I totally agree with you weatherguyrobert1. I'm old enough to remember these videos and the early days when MTV actually did show videos. So sad to see what MTV became. A shame we can't go back to the good old days. Now I'm really sounding old. LOL :-)

  • One of the best songs and videos of all time! This is back when music and videos had class!

  • Love the song, but the video looks like they were high or something... I told them not to lick the crabs...

  • Tjis video has the best bass line.

  • For a second I thought the beautiful young lady was naked when she came tippin accross the deck all painted up. I Think I see threads on that bod though, not sure. Damn that makes me want to go sailing.

  • I love this video cos the beautiful model in the video is my aunt!! There are some funny comments about her online, no one seems to know who she is so let me set the record straight!!... London based model named Reema, full name Fiona Reema Medawar. Born on 4th August 1958, half English and half Palestinian. Her hugely successful modelling career took her all over the world but settled in Italy after marrying an Italian prince and having 3 sons.

    Great video!!!

  • That has to be one of the best music vids of all time.

  • love this song ! <3 x

  • As odd as it sounds, I really only watch this video for the one little clip at the end where the lady turns to the camera and gives that little wink. I’ve waited my whole life for a woman that looks like that to give me that playfull, knowing wink. I don’t know why but it just seems so elegant and sexy.

  • If only Mtv didn't sell out, like, a year after they started. Oh well, what'd you expect?

  • Im 15 as well and i love eighties music! :)

  • i wish i had a Brazilian girl covered in paint....or just a Brazilian girl....or a girl for that matter....you know? im not all that picky, maybe just the company of a nice dog or something....

  • I remember jamming to this as a kid while they played this on the boardwalk on the jersey shore.

  • These are visions a crystal meth addict may have on his death bed

  • I love the guy with the sax on the raft! Pure '80s cheese.

  • I first saw this the day after I made love with my David (may he rest in Peace). We had cable ( a big thing back then) and all he wanted to watch was MTV (I wanted to watch "I Love "Lucy" - lol). Bittersweet memories. I miss you Davie and still love you. You were my greatest love.

  • It would take the Jonas Brothers 1000 years to make a song like this and it would probably take Justin Bieber 100 years to come up with something half as good as this song, cause pop stars of today ain't got nothin on Duran Duran, baby!

  • Remixed for 2010 World Cup... x

"His name is Rio and he watches from the stands,

the ManU w@nker nearly f**ked up Englands plans.

He never shines, never shows you all he can,

    So f**k of Rio cause we've found a better man!... x :D

  • I saw Duran Duran twice on tour when this album was released! I caught a yellow rose that Simon threw from the stage!! That was awesome and I still have it !!

  • if i had all the money in the world (and i am sure that people will agree with me on this) i would reenact this video with duran duran...my my, she is one lucky girl - on a very nice yacht, in the middle of nowhere, with duran duran! x

  • i love this video....

2:05 cue sexy.... JT is perfection - enough said!

    x

  • his name is RIO and he's watching from the stand.

  • ahahaha!! hedley did a tribude to this video in the "never to late" video :) i wanted to see the original, its really good :D

  • this is a propper music group. "i don't need to wear sailing outfits on a yacht, imma wear a suit instead!"

  • love the song gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggooood

  • Yes, I grew up with this stuff, and MTV totally sucks now. I don't even know how they can still call themselves Music TeleVision. However, now we have Youtube! You can watch all the vids you want on demand. (Yeah, I know, it's not the same, but...)

  • @jorloff I totally agree. I just shake my head at MTV. What a joke. When it first started it was so awesome and VH1 was great too. VH1 classic is still pretty good most of the time. What a shame, what is MTV thinking??

  • i was born in the 90's, and so missed all of the 80's, which was apparently the best decade for music and tv and film. i cam across this by accident on tv show ashes to ashes. its now my favourite song. it kicks ass

  • @dipton95 Don't be fooled.....the 70s was the decade with the best overall music....Rock, Soul, Disco, Country...you name it....the 70s rule....oh, BTW, this is just my opinion ;)

  • @CoastGuardIDC I was born in the 50's so I have experienced music from all the decades and I totally agree with you, the 70's was an awesome decade for music and it is my 2nd favorite. The 80's is my favorite however, the music was fun, carefree, great movies, tv shows, fun hair, fun clothing, etc. It made me feel great, I really miss it. Also, just an opinion as we all have different experiences.

  • I haven't seen this video since I use to watch NIGHT TRACKS CHARTBUSTERS on TBS every Saturday night.

  • dis songs awesome

    XD

    XD

  • its hard to believe this was their make or break video. Thankfully it took off and record sales followed (yes records and cassettes!)

  • I just realise that hedley made a video just like that one :O ( Never to late - hedly)

  • i love duran duran. and hah 3:38 cracks me up for some reason.

  • Lmao, understood... i completely agree with you there now i think about it properly! Good point. I misread your comment....

  • 43-46 is just disgusting, but other than that, cool!

  • @YesIm10 ... and why is it disgusting? I don't deem a clothed woman's body being poured with juice being bad.... enlighten me, is there something i've missed? :\

  • @FlosmicLove

No, I don't mean disgusting in THAT way, I mean "Gross" disgusting. I don't think I would be very happy if someone poured what seemed to be melted ice cream on my clothes...

I'm sorry, I know I'm over thinking this far too much, but that would probably be sticky, and the hot sun on the beach wouldn't help much either.

Those kinds of things make me squeamish, which is the reason why its "disgusting".

    Understand now?

  • pop culture is bullshit

  • This is one of the most visually stunning videos of all time. . .their use of color has never been equalled. . .of course, the fabulous babes dont hurt, either ! ! !

  • haha check out Hedley-Never Too Late...

  • such a good bassline

  • @BlackyNeedsALeash Definitely unbelievable!!!

  • first fat bass line i ever heard, and i still love this song! long live 80s music, and long live Duran Duran!!

  • which band member is the one at 0:52 ?

  • That's Roger Taylor the drummer

  • Roger Taylor:)

  • John Taylor could slap that f*ckin bass! no doubt about it.

As Glam as they were these guys could play! ...miss them

  • Very tastefully done.

  • To the one that said that Rio was a meaningless word, actually rio means river in Spanish. And the song says its like a river twisting thru the dusty land....It was no mere coincidence they use the word.

  • Good Stuff love the 80's

  • i also bought the vinyl record when it came out. i had this awesome promotional needle that was supposed to have better than CD quality. i listened to this song and i swear it sounded like i was right next to duran duran. the only band that i tried out that didnt have the same affect was the beatles

  • LOVE this song! Duran Duran was the shit in the 80's! They set the bar for MTV music videos.

  • @Skyesthelimit1

yea was great , til mtv took a shit, with

yo mtv raps-- worst fucking thing to happen to mtv!!

vh1 kept playing it though vh1 is still good lol

  • @Skyesthelimit1 ....Yes these had movie quality !

  • great song

  • This is a great song. Love it.

One of my favorite songs from Duran Duran. 80s is amazing. Love them.

  • If You Want More 80's Music, Check Out My Channel.

  • Enjoy life beautfiul people of the world.

  • I still have this on Vinyl. bought it when it came out.

  • Grandiosi!!!!!

  • I'm only 15, so I never saw the old MTV. Now all I get is the trash they show today. I can't even stand that crap. How could you watch shows about pregnant teen moms?

  • @weatherguyrobert1 I agree. MTV went down the toilet a long time ago. It was good at the start though.

  • @JOgleJSO1 Yep, it was great in the 80s when it actually played videos and was a major contributor to the direction of music. Ironically it helped kill itself with The Real World, one of the first US reality shows, which led to the current reality/non-fiction explosion and the increasing dwindling of actual music on MTV. A goddamn shame I tell ya. Fuck you Puck.

    "Video Killed the Radio Star"

"Reality TV Killed the Video Star"

( current crappy musical artists kill it too)

  • vh1 classic. if not the channel check out the website.

  • lmao i know! are you from Canada though? MuchMusic has some good music but they still have some of those shows about pregnant teens :P like the secret life of the american teenager

  • @accf95 no, not from canada

i watch vh1 sometimes, and that's ok.......but it's only a few hours in the morning

  • @weatherguyrobert1 i too am 15 and i completely agree with u, y do they put so crap on these shows in these days?

  • @BloodGun06 i am one year younger (14) and i hate all this reality tv shows...i mean my friends think i have a really bad taste in music just cuz i like 80's stuff....what ever happened to proper music? oh yeah...rap :-(

  • @claws4pawsx bad taste...that makes me laugh the 80s had more talent in one year than this whole decade had put together

  • @weatherguyrobert1 Don't let Hollywood, the mass media news, and the schools poison your mind and bore you sick. Seek out that which will make you free and happy.

  • @weatherguyrobert1 It's your generation. Tell me what you're going to do about it.

  • @weatherguyrobert1 I tell my kids that now all MTV is about is advertising and separating them from their money. It's no longer about music, it's about MONEY and taking theirs.

  • @weatherguyrobert1 I only caught the tail end of mtv it's sad they still call themselves Music Television

  • My earliest childhood memory is of my older sister playing this vinyl single.

And I bought her the 'Greatest Hits' CD as a Christmas present

  • This song is in my opinion heir finest hour

  • Headley did the Never too late video exactly the same as this video frame by frame. It is really cool..

  • Thanks I know M-TV was bound to grow and evolve and change , but DAMN somebody beam me back to the real M-TV 80's heyday allready.

  • Earthcity-I couldn't agree with you more. I was glued to my TV for those videos, all day long. And then that was the era of Miami Vice, which still had the greatest soundtrack ever. The British Invasion, MTV, Michael Jackson. There was something so indescribable about

the 80s and I am so thankful I was around then.

  • I SO agree earth!! MTV was a HUGE thing when it first came out. I was glued much as possible. Now, between things getting PIMPED, Hooked up, and celeb marriages being aired, Music is gone. How sad.

  • WOW M-TV was so different and new with videos like this when we first got it in 1982, I remember watching all day, they would repeat most of the videos during the first months as they did not have a lot of videos at first, we saw artists that we never had seen before, if you were not there at that time you just cannot understand how powerful m-tv was it was part of our generations youth, now it is not even about music videos I CAN'T BELIEVE STILL HOW BAD THEY TRASHED IT BEYOND SAD.

  • my daughter is 3 years old and we named her Rio. the 12" cover hangs on her bedroom wall. duran duran kills it. ;)

  • I like this song .

  • To the guy who mentioned this waay earlier. This song has nothing to do with a woman at all. "Rio" is an analogy for the US, and was written by DD about how they wanted to be successful here.

  • analogy - so who cares mr Know it all?

  • I think the best suits there was the red one, and the black one...All the pastels, and neons were a bit...Bleh...

  • I like how they made it look like a Peter North money shot @ 0:44

  • 4:20 surely one of the sexiest moments in pop video

  • the bass on this kills me!

  • dude, im tellin ya... i heard this on the radio the other day and was like "man, i've heard this song thousands of times... why have i never heard that amazing bass playing before?"

  • sounds like a song you would hear playing over the radio at t.g.i Fridays

  • maybe you wouldn't hear it in Wisconsin

  • Love Duran Duran! Rio is by far the best song of the 80s! Check out the best ever remake of Rio by searching for Rio by Stinky Chat! Me and a group of friends recreated the video on a recent sailing holiday in Turkey. Hope you like it! :)

  • What an awesome video. If one in every hundred days of my life was this video, I'd consider it well spent. Sadly, I am wildly deficient in the areas of mountaintop sax playing and the underwater enjoyment of intoxicating spirits. I do the rest of that shit on the reg though.

  • They ued to play this video on MTV all the time.

  • is it me, or he sings the line:

"...and i've seen you on TV"

    like:

"...klahn seen you on TV" ?

  • Rio deserves the glory... Amen to Miracles and God giving the Glory to deserving Countries!!!! Say no to Corruption (which is what Chicago and Washington is now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I PRAYED FOR DAYS FOR RIO!!!!!!!!!!!! YES! GOD RULES!

  • No offense, but Rio got it on merit, not God.

  • This video is the reason why I work with television today. I think I was born the same year it was made but ever since I saw it for the first time when I was about 6 years old I could never forget the most inspiring music vid ever made.

    Thank's for sharing it :)
