Must admit I preferred the original's interpretation of "The quickening". It was more mysterious and ethereal. More like bathing in a bright light than a bolt of energy.
Wow, this is the first time I've heard anything said in a German dub that actually sounded less threatening than in the English version. Clancy Brown, you need to voice the main character in a badass game or something.
I think they absence of the lightnings and all the stuff in this scene was deliberate because they wanted to show that it was a weak quickening due to they are at the very beginning of the gathering and still they are with their basic quickening of when they born to the inmortality.
Just compare this one with the quickenings in the modern age showed in the movie.
@Wizzardd Except that there was no lightening effects ANYWHERE in the movie, really (not counting the build up to the garage quickening). Otherwise, though, excellent points.
Yeah, that always seemed a bit stupid to me as well. It's as though he's terrified of the fall or something. Wake up, dude! You're immortal! Earlier in the fight he completely fails to capitalize on the Kurgan falling and being temporarily incapacitated as well. He just waits for him to recover and climb up the stairs again. Lazy old Ramirez.
I think that was pretty sweet...but in the original it was a bit more ominous that he absorbed the quickening without letting anything go. We had seen MacLeod at the mercy of the power yet here Kurgan soaked it up. Only later with the top powerful gathering fighters could he not hold it in. For the pacing of the film, in this scene, absorbing it without a sound made him look unstoppable.
Nice. I never understood why the lightning FX was skipped fro this scene. It good that you didn't go over the top with it. I hope they do a remake of Highlander with better special effects someday.
@BoredomCorner Then what do you call the stuff or "bolts of lightning" that come from the decapitated bodies. Also I never said quickening, but then again bolts of lighting coming from corpses is not a natural thing. While your wasting your time nip picking at that you could do us a favour and find an explanation of everything in the universe.
hm i dont understand how germen and france + spain just "dubbs" everything. Its like having a top 40 voices from each country. and in the end its like 1 of them have 100 characters. Like a spanish dude is first: John McClane and then i watch Pulp Fiction then another spanish dude is playing Bruce Willis role there. It cant be good for ur brain hahaha
TNfilms - uhm..I am confused now, seriously!! What has changed??? Watched the movie almost 50 times since 1986 and didn`t see anything new here..my fault???
Damn!!! Sorry but I wasn`t aware of it the first time - very, very good work..good enough that I took it for granted!!;)) Looks like as if it`s always been in the movie!!^^
lol..wieso rede ich eigentlich nicht deutsch?? Soweit isses schon gekommen!!

@ShadowCompany: Had you watched it 51 times you would have noticed there were no lightning bolts during the original quickening.
@TNFilms: Nice work!

@dhice69 For the same reason that that rickety staircase still supported their weight at all -- it's a silly movie. :P

what do you need english for? it's just action, without any words.
TNFilms 3 years ago
well i for one cant understand 'there can be only one' in German, besides the dubbing actor sounds nothing like Clancy Brown.
RustiSwordz 3 years ago 4
yeah, but i grew up with these voices and... i like them. :-)
wanna know something funny? The german voice of Kurgan is in every highlander movie (except this one) the voice of Connor ... lol
TNFilms 3 years ago
@TNFilms At least title it in german, or place german in brackets. That would be the polite things to do.

i can settle for no english [shockingly] but you need to have the entire scene that leads up to this. Ramierez Vs Kuragan. That Was Awesome. lol
MeLikePie8008 2 years ago
Maybe he needs the subtitles for the quickening: "quikssshh wrooompt qwiiichkkkssshhs, wrrrorshh qqwiishh"
Btw, good work. Fixed fx for this scene.
