Last night on Angela's Unsung special was my first time hearing the original. I love the remake but that this lady had so much swagger back then to create this song really impresses me. The remake's music stands out more. It has more base in it and Avant has a better voice than Rene but both ladies are great. Angela has a beautiful voice and is uber talented.
I can't believe that when Angela was producing Janet Jackson's first album Anglea gave this song to Janet and she turned My First Love down. I'm actually glad that Janet didn't sing this song because Janet being 16 years old at the time didn't have the soul to sing this song like Angela does and still has.
Honestly, I think both versions are great to listen to. However the original is ALWAYS better when it comes to music. I still give Avant's version credit because it was actually a great remake of this song.

My mother and father (i.e. born in '52 and '58 respectively), had me growing up listening to "nothing" but this type of soul stirring music (dating way back to the lae50s-70s) continuing, in the late 1980s-early 1990s, in the decade which I was growing up!
