I read the play first and was so impressed with it that I was worried Brando would totally drag down the "pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth" speech... hokey smokes was I wrong. It's been a while since I've had goose bumps in a movie - what a work of art!
One of my favorite films with Brando is "Superman". But sadly parts have been cut out...they are I guess forever missing. The film was cut shortly after release to the movie theaters. Most people I talk to don't even remember the full uncut version of Superman...with Marlon Brando.
Marc Antony is Marlon Brando's greatest role. I have seen all of his greatest movies & not one of them is as good as this. May he himself come down from his seat in actor's heaven & blow my head off if he deems me wrong.
I'm not sure, but I suspect John Inman who played Mr. Humphries in the British comedy ARE YOU BEING SERVED? was inspired by this. He certainly sounds like Brando in this scene's final moments.
I forgot what great range Brando had as an actor. I remember him as an old actor, "when he was a lunatic". I am thinking "Apocylypse Now"... but still a great actor.
I was still at school in 1953 when I saw this unbelievable performance by Marlon Brando. This is the first time I've had the opportunity to see it since then, fantastic. This must be one of the most difficult parts in the acting profesion. To express the conflicting emotions he had to show to alay the fears of the conspiritors, and yet show their true nature.Shakespear was indeed the greatest writer ever.
@nathan0578 Long time since you posted but I just came across your comment now. Brando was not a Shakespearean and I was about 10 years old when I first heard him deliver the Cry Havoc line. I was thunderstruck and became interested in Shakespeare ever since. For whatever that's worth.

@trakomako you're right, but you must admit that the series Rome is simply brilliant and historically accurate.

your comment is rather hard to digest, as it is difficult to see shakespeare to be the talk of the town.
It is as well difficult to see directors actually make movies from Shakespeare.
You must describe to me how shakespeare was such a novel thing in your past pop-culture and how high skool was like.
