Dumbass instructor, you should NEVER pull the reserve chute when you are still atached to your main, first pull the cutaway handle, then pull your rescue/reserve.
In this case the malfunction was caused by the person at very low altitude, it would have killed him if he pulled cutaway and reserve or just reserve. hitting water at 120mp/h is quite deadly though...
@NuteGunray94 i think he got completely wrapped in the risers and lines, since he fell into his wing...must have felt like being caught in a fishernet.
@zumsel6020 not he - shee. Her name is Zsófi, and she was a young, pretty hungarian girl. It happened so many years ago. Unfortunately, some pilots become panic, or the fall in a kind of a static shock, which makes them unable to act probably. For this reason, such training is actually very good, this training gives you normally the right reflex to act probably. However, if this pilot has the problem again, then he should stop flying.
@smartkiltedman this was supposed to happen, youre doing this maneuvre in training...problem was he opened the brakes immediatly instead of smoothly...anyway...paragliding's not chess ;)
@MrThekillerFR They normally do SIV training over water, You learn control of the glider By inducing collapses and recovering in a controlled enviroment with a rescue boat and instructors.
It's a good job paragliders don't jump out of planes then dumbass, as for practicing stalls there are many situations you may need to induce a stall. And as for the why no reserve the guy has just been gift wrapped he may still have his arms stuck in lines or anything
@diramonsky Your comment is an excellent example of the lag that pervades a society, between it's most intelligent members, and the majority population.
@diramonsky he's lucky that's one well constructed, perfectly engineered, extremely expensive sheet. you can thank paragliders and skydivers for pushing on and refining the sport technology that's used by paratroopers, humanitarian food parcel drops and bringing back space shuttles safely. and it may be primitive instincts that make these sports exciting but you wouldn't understand until you've flown a para-glider or made your first skydive. @diramonsky and you think this because????? maybe your a retard that doesn't know what he is talking about. you just stay at your little desk pulling the belly out of yourself and leave real living to people that know how to enjoy life. in one jump a skydiver has lived more than you ever will. you should try it hope your chute doesn't open
So jumping out of a plane is living? And if you haven't jumped out of a plane you haven't lived? That's just your opinion. Personally I think you haven't lived untill you fucked 2 women at the same time and that's a lot safer and less dumb looking then jumping out of a perfectly fina airplane. Ya know, the best thing in the world is to have a guy who's completely forgotten what it's like to be a newbie yelling orders at you over a megaphone: that always works.
Student pilot 1. mistake: after provocated stall > much too fast release of brakes > parachute accelerated to the front > pilot fell into parachute > 2. mistake: no release of rescue. By the way I do not think that there is a need for training of a stall, because normally a stall does not appear during a flight.
I agree lovehorrordotde, there is no need for training in such a stall, hardley ever happens in real life. so long as you can recognise when a stall occurrs, which isn't hard.
I think he heard sh*t when falling at that speed so he didn´t hear the instructions to pull the reserve chute. He maby thought the wing would inflate back...
I can read his mind... SHIT where is my reserve can't see shit ! but i agree with a comment i would kick the instructors ass... to low... and bad instructions..
bwah... think that should be DHV 1.. so something got f-ck-d up very well
The instructor did fine, the student screwed up. Of course we don't see the ground briefing or before the vid; no student goes up to induce a full stall without instruction to not let up on the brakes suddenly. The instructor would have reminded him before telling him to induce the stall, and has no time afterwards, he starts to say it but the student has already let up the breaks.
A full stall is a BIG DEAL in a PG, there are a lot of warnings and ground instruction before you try it.
@ chueffer, generally paragliders do NOT fly over water, however this was a training exercise pulling extreme maneuvers called an SIV clinic. Those can lead to reserve deployments and very rarely incidents like this so they are conducted over water. Paragliders are inherently stable and safe. In this incident the pilot intentionally induced a full stall but out of fear immediately let up the breaks. This is the WORST thing to do with a stall and he did the opposite of his training.
It was a an intentionally induced collapse. He left the commands too early, though. One should keep the commands pulled until the wing is back overhead.
I did the same thing and broke my back in three places and every bone from my knees down, on both sides. 6 year later and 16 surgeries I'm standing on my own two feet again and very lucky. Not sure I will ever glide again though I was a rigger so the interest is always there
oh my god! Im really sorry for u. just dont know whatta say.r u ok after your accident? im not a pilot yet, but love paragliding and wanna make a course. but now... after watching all these scary videos... uhh..
If you enjoy doing it, you should continue. get the best instruction as possible and always wear a reserve and a hook blade knife. I'm not a big fan of these chutes because they collapse quite easly and you have to be really high to recover from any mistakes. If it's your passion then do it, but there are several ways to play in the sky that are safer.
as for me, I'm still in recovery and very lucky to be alive, with all my bits and pieces, plus 30 screws and plates.. good luck & blue skies
from L1-S1, 3 burst fractures and compressions, bilateral multi-fractures tib/fib,heels,ankles,also tore the my right nostril about an inch (not sure how though)....have now had 4 Back surgeries and have 2 more next month....well, those are the basics....
Looks like bad instruction to me, correct procedure for a full stall if im not mistaken is; bury the brakes-keep brakes down while glider falls back-when glider appears overhead, let up on brakes gradually-check the dive. At least she was training over water.
That instruction is given on the ground. The instuctor could have reminded BEFORE entering teh stall but in the event has no time to tell the pilot to hold it in the stall.
I think she is super lucky that the parachute did open up a little toward the end, and it slowed her down. otherwise she probably wouldn't have survived
I imagine its hard to pull the reserve when panicking, seeing the ground approaching fast, and tangled in lines. Have you ever tried to put a key in a keyhole while being chased, its almost impossible, pulling the reserve and throwing it free is definitely hard.
Wait... the stall itself seemed ok to me. From the way the wing behaved, it looked like the guy IMMEDIATELY released brake pressure and the wing surged. Shouldn't he have held the stall a bit longer to ensure he was "falling" under the wing and then recover properly?
i think the instr was getting the guy to slow down to minimum speed before stalling.. if you ever have stalled the wing from full speed .. its pretty violent - so its good to lean forward and slow right down for the first time.. The glider never really went negative either - slight assymetrical release but that was it - basically the guy released at the wrong moment and that was that. I think it is safer to release to backfly first then release fully.
That was intentional and correct. he objective was to induce a full stall. The student responded badly to the stall and counter to training, which is why it is practiced over water.
Full stall recovery exercise I suspect. Watch out for that surge. By the time he realized he should have applied some brake he had gone negative and was into his wing. Should have gone for his laundry but who knows what happened to him when he went through his lines. He might not have been able to. Just be glad he did it over water.

I did almost the exsact same thing, very scary, but lievd to tell the tale, gotta keep those hands down untill the wing settles!!!

Actually the pilot was a girl... Zsofi. And she's fine, I saw once an interview with her, after the accident. She was scared a little bit.

Wait... the stall itself seemed ok to me.

I think it is safer to release to backfly first then release fully.

the instructor was wery amater , he sayd pull more pull more pull more ...
the right way was 1 time to pull not 4-5 cuz the speed will go down in minimum thats why he fall down.
Paste123123 4 years ago
That was intentional and correct. he objective was to induce a full stall. The student responded badly to the stall and counter to training, which is why it is practiced over water.
dorbie 2 years ago
Lack of adequate instruction. Don't stop yelling reserve until the student throws it. Maybe radio was dead or instructor braindead.

Full stall recovery exercise I suspect. Watch out for that surge. By the time he realized he should have applied some brake he had gone negative and was into his wing. Should have gone for his laundry but who knows what happened to him when he went through his lines. He might not have been able to. Just be glad he did it over water.

Fell into his wing? Bad move! He hit the water quite hard. No sign he went for the laundry that I could tell. He okay?
