  • This guitar is awesome looking

  • hey son can you do one for me ? how much ?

  • that is fantastic stuff it looks excellent well done young man

  • It would have been a lot easier to just scratch-build the body. And who uses biscuit joints on a guitar? That's just weird.

  • when you want to re paint a guitar, do you sand all off the old paint off?

  • @MaxEVH yes

  • does the guitar has a tremolo? because on the W.A.C.F album you can hear a few dive bombs and stuff, butt i don't see a tremolo

  • @fireatmidnight0 he didnt use this guitar on W.A.C.F

  • @ManiacGuitar98 oh,i taught he used this guitar,i saw it on the cover of the album,my bad,

  • 1.12 VH drill :L

  • NICE!!!

  • Wow Impressive ! Im making an EVH tribute guitar as well its in the drying stage after clear coat now I'll Upload a vid soon. Great job on yours man!

  • what is the name of the evh song

  • @theZENLOW It's 'On Fire'.... The song was on the first album, but this version is off the demo tape that Gene Simmons produced to try and help get VH signed

  • didnt eddie just cut out a chunk not cut it in fourths

  • nice i want 1

  • Is it the real van halen or is it you at 0:05?

  • damn that must've been one freaking hell of a job dude!

im repainting my old no-name strat like guitar at the moment

but this on looks FREAKING nice man

    props to you

  • Did you use any wood sealer?

  • Why do you have to chop it into 4?

  • wow awesome i would have never thought of cuttin it in four. awesome job.. how does it sound???

  • @Blackthrash88 thanks,i had to cut it becouse ibanez changed the shape a little but all the angles were the same. it sounds really good, one of my fav guitars to play, great full sound and lots of sustain. i have a couple videos of me playing this guitar, check out jackson bio hazard guitar and me playing runnin with the devil.

  • Great job!

  • i almost wanted to cut myself when i saw you used a destroyer. i guess at least it was a single pickup model.

  • did you use clear coat

  • @zentz36 no, no clear coat. 2000 grit sandpaper and rubbing compound.

  • @jbstuf ok then thanks

  • yo bro, I asked you a while ago to build me one, I might have some spare change, so lets talk.

  • Absolutely fantastic work. How long did it take? Van Halen turned my musical world upside down in 1978 when I was 14 and when I saw this guitar on the back of Women and Children First in 1980 with him in his jumpsuit pointing right at me looking way too cool, I knew that this was the guiarist I wanted to listen to and my band forever.

  • are the songs van halen demos or something? if so, where di u get them? great job! it takes a lot of guts to do that to a guitar lol :)

  • incredible work on this project and video 5 stars. Killer VH demo songs jammed too.!!! It looks exactly like ed's shark.

  • you can still have the wammy bar cavity i reckon it would better with it and the wammy bar of course

  • at the round wing u made a shape that looks like a dick :|

  • awesome! u sr. are a REAL PRO nice replica!!!

  • how does it sound?

  • dude i'm very impressed. what are those metal devises at the back?

  • The shark is probably my favorite Van Halen guitar, man I'd kill for one of those, maybe you should try selling them.

  • Where did you get the pic at 2:04?

  • its just a drawing i did on the computer to help me figure out where everything goes.

  • @jbstuf no problem thanks anyway

  • @jbstuf ohh man thats sweet!

  • Cool work !!!

  • yeah gibson is overrated it is more expensive than it should be ibanez rules

  • Why didn't you used an Dean??

    It would've been easier

  • what are those things in the "jaws" of the guitar

  • Eddie fucked that gibson Explorer that he modified

  • @HeRoSeNsEi u should've seen what he did to his EDS 335 apparently he completely destroyed it or so i read.

  • i would have left in tremalo. i know it wouldnt be accurate but who cares, besides i couldnt do that half as good

  • Whoa I love That Guitar XD

  • What kind of pickup was the bridge?

  • That was good!

how did uu get rid of the paint at the start though ?

  • heat gun,comes right off.

  • Ahhh thanks.

  • what was the measuremeant/measusre did you use when you chopped thie guitar?

  • no whammy bar on the shark guitar???

  • Are those songs from the Demo that they gave to Gene Simmons?

  • that's totally awesome dude, keep up the good work

  • Where did you get the neck?

  • Your a pro!!! God bless people like you!!!

  • Frankin Drill xD Nice

  • Wow thats a lot of work but worth it. I recall eddie say in an interview (when the frankenstrat replicas were rolling out) that he regreted cutting the guitar he turned into the shark cause it never played the same afterwards. Apparently he screwed up the tone by cutting it.

  • FUCKING AMAZING 10 out of 10!!!!!!!

  • One question? Why would you make a replica of a guitar he hated? He loved the original Destroyer but after he cut it up he said it destroyed the tone! After that he did use a Destroyer on the Women & Children first album but it was borrowed from W.A.S.P.s Chris Holmes.

I understand if you just want to put it on your wall as a tribute, but why put all that work into it? Just wondering!!!

  • i just think its one of the coolest guitars ever.i needed to build it.i love playing it and its one of my fav guitars that i own.

  • @jbstuf That's also my favorite of his guitars too! I still want to have one made, one day.

  • nice drill lmfao

  • Great job, but I wonder if it would have been easier using a Gibson or Epiphone Explorer instead of the Ibanez. It would have been a set neck like the original and you would not have to do all the woodworking to it as this one. I see explorer projects pop up on ebay alot.

  • what pickups do you have in there?

  • the bridge pickups is stock, the neck pickup is an old pickup i had.

  • You know EVH hated the shark cuz when he cut the chunk out of the body, he said he ruined the guitar's tone. But he played with it a little nevertheless.

  • dude he loves this guitar he used this guitar from 74' to 1980 the franky was and is his no.1 and the shark is his no.2 he used in women and children first and theres no prob with the tone

  • actually for VH1 he used the shark to record all the rythem parts and all the solos were with the frankenstrat (eruption included)

  • dont forget he used it on WACF and used the shark for everything on "you really got me" and "runnin with the devil"

  • i wish ed used this more but it was all frnakenstrat after 78 if u think thiswas sort of the frankenstrat 2ns version cuz this had the same type of color scheme this is my no.1 favorite EVH guitar second is unchained guitar and then the kramer pacer he made with purple white blue and i think red maybe yellow too and also are these the demos of the songs cuz they dont sound like the songs on the record cuz i haveVH1 and VH2

  • when are you gonna use this axe in action

  • why chop it up?

  • what two songs are in this vid?

  • im on fire and somebody get me a doctor

  • awesome job, but it needs black on it

  • no it doesent.. the orginal is red with silver stripes..

  • What are those things that hook on to the hooks in the middle of the triangle and where do you get them

  • What glue did you use

  • how did you get the hole for the selector swich explane plaease it would help me out so when i builed mine it wont be so hard

  • he routed the body the orgininal destroyer was built like the gibson explorer so there was that routed line to the switch selector

  • Where did you get the guitar and how much was it

  • dude awsome job

  • lol at the screw driver at 4:07

  • what kind of guitar case can you use for it?

  • hey man! im working on a project now.. but my future project is this.. i have a hamer explorer... but im wondering what the metal things called and ware can you get them that atach the v part of the shark guitar?

  • they are called turnbuckles and you can get them at any hardware store.

  • I posted a video response with the one I made from a Gibson Explorer. The Explorer is essentially the same as the Ibanez Destroyer, except the Explorer I used was mahogany wood. Nice job, dude! But, you definitely did this the HARD WAY! I suppose given the original guitar you had to work with, you had no choice. Mine was modified basically using the same steps as EVH used. I chop here, a chop there, add some turnbuckles, the requesite tape paint and Voila!

  • nice job on your shark! if i were to build another one i would do it the way you did yours.but at the time i thought it would be fun. and it was.i really love building guitars.the work i put into the shark is nothing compared to the guitar im working on now.when its finished i will make a video.

  • Awesome On Fire and demo version of Somebody Get Me a Doctor! Is that you or a backing track? Anyway, the guitar turned out perfect! How come you cut it up, though? I thought all you had to do was hack out that triangle at the bottom. I guess since it's a 90s model, right?

  • i should make a video on why i had to cut the body.the story is...

when i started this project i was going to cut the body out of a chunk of wood that i bought, and buy the neck, pickups, ect as i went along.then this guitar came along and i thought perfect, until i noticed the body wasnt the right shape(unless i chop it up and glue it back together)i worked out all the details and measured very carfully.i didnt look at it as work but as a really fun creative challenge.

  • yeah, i figured the body would've looked different from the original shark. looks like it took forever to plan it out perfectly! Awesome job!

  • nice drill

  • play loud :D:D:D lol

  • NOW I see the shark resemblance!

  • Everyone else copies the Strat. The Destroyer was a brilliant idea.

  • the story was eddie took it and took a huge chunk out noone may know why but the story is that it totaly took away the tone so he tryed to make a new one but couldnt becouse ibanez got into a law suit with gibson over it

  • this is amazing, how much would it cost to make them and sell them?

well how much would you charge if you were willing?

  • your drill

  • Well done, looks really good.

  • where did you buy the plate to cut it that way i want one post where on my 2spl acount

  • Can someone email me what kind of primer he's using?

  • did you leave the tape under the red paint? wht was the point of that?

  • I absolutely hate it when people leave derogative comments on youtube, it's stupid, selfish and uneducated. So I apologize in advance...

Seriously poop bucket, how were you planning on making the white stripes without leaving on the tape?!?!

You must be a turdnose not to know that the tape acts as a stencil so when you tape over the white and spray it red the white will stay making the lines extra crisp and sharp.

  • excuse me for not knowing. i asked what the point was i hate derogative somments too. excuse me for asking. thats the prob with internet. you cant hear that im inquiring something i dont know ive never done that to my guitatr b4

  • cutting it into 4 parts and then gluing it back togeather ,but leaving the drill holes raw. EVH is a genious virturoso, but he's totally crazzy too. I think the raw cut is what he said might have ruined it's sound at 1 point.Looks super cool though. Dream guitar when i was a kid. and still now. I wonder if when you thighten the turn buckles if it changes the sound or tone by raising or lowering the stress in the wood.???

  • Roflmao :-)

    The drill at 4.08...

  • 4:08 like the drill! sweet guitar as well

  • how much would it cost for me to buy one from you?

  • Man can you build me one of these? My favorite axe of all time

  • awsome just today i painted my guitar like eddies^^

  • i think they made a couple of these just limited edition cuz i read about in guitar world

  • that would be soooooooooooooo cool!

  • i think charvel should make evh replicas of these.

  • when you fill in the grain of the wood what kind of filler should i use?

  • PLEASE post a vid of you playing this thing....

it's SUCH a PERFECT replica, I NEED to know how this sounds! :D

  • Does it still sound nice? Must sound terrible after all you done with it...

  • i can only imagine all the tone you lost from chopping the guitar into 4 pieces and then gluing it all back together!!!!!!

  • really?? explain ...couse it sounds great!!!!

  • explain what???? these recordings are circa 1976. this demo recording isn't from this actual guitar that this guy is suggesting that made this demo tape. if you disrupt the structure and tonality from the guitar like that, it will hamper the tone a bit, but not much.

thank you, and good day!!! Nice Try!!!

  • You said "i can only imagine all the tone you lost..." and then proceeded to say it didn't lose much.

So what stance are you taking?

  • oh, i wasn't aware that u r the owner of the guitar. so u would know how it sounds then. i thought u were inferring that this guitar was used by eddie to make the demo. i just thought that by disrupting the wood grain and structure that it would hamper the sound.

How does it sound? i'm curious...

  • i know its easy for me to say that it sounds great.alot of people have asked me about the sound.i am planing to do a new video playing this guitar.

  • dude i swear...this guitar that u made...is PERFECT@!!!! ive never seen a better replica and ive never seen someone do so much work on piece of wood shaped like a...X-plorer i think...or somethn..and u made it look exactly like eddie van halens shark man...its freken awsome...i swear u shouold like totally make a video of how to paint guitars like that..!!THANKS MAN awsome vid dude!

  • what are things in the sharks mouth?

  • gums

  • the original "shark" guitar was a destroyer

but ibanez stop selling it because of gibsons threats of lawsuits

  • PLZ MAKE A VIDOE OF U PLAYIN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, i wanna know wut pickups ed used for the shark

  • hahah 5150 drill..

  • good job.

  • awesome

  • wooooo

  • Nice EVH drill lol

  • wat brand or wat is the thing at 2:46

  • Nice work man, I can tell that took a lot of work

  • ok, thanks i'll look around. and btw that is the best shark guitar i've seen nice job

  • dude, is the switch munted on a les paul jack plate?

  • this is really cool. i wanna do this

  • best copy I've seen. where did you get more pictures of the guitar? I've been trying to find reference photos of the back and sides for a while and can't find any.

makes me wanna build one too.

  • i cant find pics either. im using this vid to build mine

  • okay. let me know how yours turns out.

  • yah itll probly be a while cuz i wanna wait till spring for temperature and to give me time to get the parts. when its finished im puttin up a video showing it.

  • thanks guys, thats cool you are using my video to help you with your projects.the best picture i have is the center fold out of guitar world.i found a picture on a web site showing the back.message me your emails and i will send you the pictures i used, good luck guys.

  • where did u get that version of on fire, and somebody get me a doctor? are they from the gene simmons demo?

  • yes, i found them on a web site about a year ago.but i cant remember the site...sorry

  • 4:08 the van hale drill !!!

    hahahaha!!

  • I have a question..... you did so much work on the body, why didn't you just make one from scratch instead of ruining a (quite rare) single pick-up/trem equiped Destroyer II?? Witht the amount of cuts and joints you put into it, you could probably have got a better result using ply!! No offense intended, but you seem to have the skills to make your own..... so why not????

  • your right.i was going to do just that,i had the wood and was going to build it from scratch.but this guitar was not mint, and i thought it wood be a fun challenge.somtimes putting yourself out there is alot more fun than finding the easest way.i didnt show it in the video but i also reshaped the head stock aswell.this was one of the funnest projects i have ever done.

  • hey jb you really went all out to do this guitar i mean even the video turned out fantastic. planning is everything tho... you are like me do most things at the kitchen table any way beautiful job on your shark enjoy it you should be very proud of yourself top notch

  • PS

Im thinking mine has a thinker finish that the ones they make today

  • Hi..I have the same destroyer, same color

HOW DID YOU GET THAT TOUGH PAINT OFF. COULD YOU GIVE ME A STEP BY STEP

I painted mine EVH style almost 30 years ago but I couldnt get the old paint off(I was just a youngling) so I painted over it..haha

  • i use a heat gun for stripping paint.the paint gets very soft but doesnt melt or get gummy.a putty knife helps to lift the paint.i used a blow torch once but not a good idea.

  • lol

  • what are those pieces inbetween the shark mouth?

  • what pickups were they? make a sampe video on the shark.

  • are from canada?

  • im lonely

    O.o wow hehe Yo

  • How many hours? --- VERY NICE !!

  • Brilliant man! Just finished my copy of the 5150 and its not as good as your work but im happy enough

  • motomaster cherry red (m) 47-5037-4

  • FANTASTIC, love it. Makes my Frankie look like a quick job.

  • I have an 81.

  • dude nice music

on fire from the zero demos

gr8 job with the geetar 2

  • You sir are obviously the only idiot here since this guitar was obviously built for looks and as a replica and not for actual playing and the fact that he did cut it just goes to show how good he is when it comes to woodworking.

  • what are the things in the middle of the big cut

  • those are called "biscuits" they are used in high end wood furniture and high quality wood joints. you need a special tool to make the biscuit cut and you either buy the biscuits or make them.

  • Very impressive work!!! I'm envious of your woodwroking skill. Not to mention your planning.

  • great job..!

  • you sure are good at making guitars!

  • Dude Email Me Some pics of that bad Boy

  • Awsome

  • wouldn't chopping it cut back the tone and resonance??
