Also there is pretty clear evidence that Dale modified this belts and one of them broke which did not help. Most of it however was BSF. The cars were getting so rigid by then that a lot of energy was being forced on the driver. The wrecks that dont "look" bad are the worst, since no parts shed off to take away energy. And add to the no HANS device and no full helmet (stll wore the open face helmet with chin strap)
The sad fact is this: if he had been racing for the lead instead of hanging back and trying to block 2 lanes of traffic, he'd still be alive (most likely). People who blamed Sterling Marilin for this wreck clearly have a very "selective vision" Dale moves down to BLOCK Marlin and hits him. The people who were sending hate mail to SM after this happened really need to see a head doctor.
Earnhardt was a loud critic of head restraints- and it was the lack of one that killed him. When it came to safety engineering, he was a damn good driver...
I have been a fan since 1978...but this was the day nascar died!
NASCAR has gone down hill ever since this day! We dont watch to see a driver die, but Gladiators battle. I refuse to watch millionares run around a track for 500 miles to only race for the last 20 laps.
I have not watched a full race since 2003. I just get the highlights....if there are any!
Welcome to the new wrestling fad.
So SO SO SO sad!
PLEASE COME BACK NASCAR Dale would want it...so do I.
Courage is getting into a big-block engine with 500 horse power and expecting to crash, but not letting it stop you from winning The Great American Race. Dale Earnhardt had alot of courage.
That is crazy, it doesn't look like it was that bad. Hell, I don't watch NASCAR but I've seen worse than that on ESPN clips. I'm suprised he died. And before someone says it: I know he wasn't wearing his neck brace and I know the car went from 200 mph to 0 in like one second but it still doesn't look THAT bad.
it killed him beacuse he snaped his neck by hitting the stearing weel or somthing like that and the same thing happend to adam petty thats why they cant move their heads really beacuse of their deaths

The 200 is the number of laps, 500 miles. Dale Earnhardt is a better man than any of us. Chuck Norris could not pass Dale. No one can. Period.
cmdkid3 3 years ago
He was a damn good driver, but just because he died racing does not make him a better man then any of us.
