Okay..... You can pretend you can dodge one but if you don't you might as well say it's over. Pop to the head with a metal bat and your fucking toes will be tingling from it while you're unconscious on the pavement.
This was so badly choreographed. They shouldn't have even posted this. You can see the guy holding back from hitting him and the second guy hesitating. It really is the worst demonstration I ever seen and makes his martial arts look phony.
second scenario: why dosent he go in after blocking? a ellbow or uppercut to the nose or chin even a kick to the groin would do it too (taking off the weapon is not the thing if you move fast - and you have to remind the disarming technique first!)
@TellinTheTruth Dodging a stick/bat to the head is pretty easy. If you grew up with brothers you'd know that it's quite common to miss your target when you're swinging as hard as you can because of course you're feet are planted when you swing. The catching the bat on the back swing is actually a good technique I wish I'd tried when I was younger. I just used to do the standard thing of leap back and allow them to reset themselves for the next swing. The rest of it is too choreographed, I agree.
Best defence against two guys armed with bats, run like a mother fucker, cause getting a good hit on the head with a baseball bat isn't go to hurt you, but it will leave your family and friends pretty upset, when your in the ground.
@debergarac That's why I've got a Glock 26 (9mm) for IWB concealed carry, and a Glock 21 (45acp) fuck that. If I feel like they're not TOO much of a threat and we're at extremely close range, I've got a Cold Steel AK-47 G-10 with "rapid deployment" (the fucker swings open the split second you pull it out). So I feel ya, brother. I got taken out at a stoplight (carjacking) last year after a fucking convenience store robbery, never again. They'll get their throats slit or 11 rounds of hot lead.
Oh my god, this is martial arts bullshit! Unless your fighting children.. that won´t work! Check out "Aliveness Matt Thornton" on youtube and you will know what i mean!
My fav vid is this one. I'v always wondered how to defend against a bat. Alot of people carry sticks and bats in their cars and such. And suppose you get into a fender bender with them...ya never know...they could get stupid. Good vid.
But i can do without the cheezy dramatic music loop.
The full motion demo was fine, but when you slowed it down to the slo-mo, there is an extended period where there is nothing going on other than jockeying for position. It is best to cut out that section and just splice the two relevant sections together, perhaps with commentary to join them.
In defense against a long weapon, especially two handed weapons, obviously if you can avoid engaging by flight, do so. But if they are in range to strike and are taking the swing, do not try to dodge. That is pitting your dexterity against his in an even match, don't play his game. Rather go on the offense, step into his attack, inside the swing range, wrap his arms with one arm and elbow strike with the other. You will completely nullify his advantage and could well disarm him.
Good point. My prefered answer though is to grab his bottom hand and the bat above his top hand. This keeps his hands in view and away from vitals if he does get smart and let go of the bat. As I grab I launch in with a headbutt. If he lets go I've got the weapon, if not I'll kick his shins, stomp his feet, knee his groin, and headbutt him until he's down or runs away. Its also a very instictual act, making it much easier to learn and apply.
Good point about basing 'technique' around one's natural instinct. Any technique that is 'not' based on your natural instinct actually requires one to fight one's own instinct in training, likely resulting in confusion if one should ever need to fight. The best combat style in my opinion is to figure out what you would naturally do, and then learn to do that really well. Put on really heavy training gear, and have your friends attack you like the street (not spar). See what you do. Train that.
Normally we train with light gear, we've been training together along time though and have gotten use to it. We normally use a light karate style helmet, safety glasses, a mouth guard, and MMA gloves. We normally don't use mats either. I've had a couple broken ribs thanks to that brilliant decision, so we've started using thin play mats lately. They keep it real enough without too much damage. Starting out though, I would recommend going heavy on the pads and gear like you said.
what are you guys talking about? this is a great way to defend your self...after first swing stop the second...its not rocket science peoplle.
ok, if somebody swings a bat at you? are you gonna let it hit you. just like when somebody punches you... YOU GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY...
i guess most of you who say this is bullshit have never been in a fight...or at least never won one

Why is the 1st attacker just standing there and not fighting back? The defender hasn't hit him at all.

Because the defender hit him in the head with the bat...watch it again...
