Annie looks beautiful in her soft red wispy hair and the red ballgown that would be reused for the cello sequence in the Sweet Dreams video. She described her In the Garden look as Germanic which makes sense since (hmmm two homonyms....) they recorded it in Cologne Germany!
this reminds me alot of a scene in the Derrick Jarman film"jubilee",and also in the vid to" sweet dreams" where Annie turns the globe with her orange cropped hair is very like a scene from "Jubilee" also involving Toyah.
A well crafted video, well ahead of its time - and I mean, not just for the 1981 standard. Some of the water snapshots were later used in their "Sweet Dreams" live from Heaven video (during "Jennifer" intro). It is criminal this video never got onto a proper official video compilation of theirs, whether VHS or especially the DVD. Well, this eventual error can always be corrected.
Wow! This is really cool! I love this song....Dave and Annie look so strange as usual.....those two are totally insane but in a really great way! Annie looks really good in this video. Am I the only one who thinks she looks good with hair? hehe
@12burtonboy "I'm never gonna cry again" is just another way of saying, "I'm gonna kill myself." I think that the lyrics are based on a suicide note that a woman left for her past boyfriend to see. She says that she's never gonna cry again (as in, committing suicide), then she says that she didn't want to bother him by telling him in person, then she concludes that she can't stand to be around him.
What a wonderful, moody piece. "In the Garden" was such an amazing album and this song is such a great part of it. I have always loved Eurythmics so much :)
I've been dying to see this in good quality for nearly thirty years - I still have a terrible incomplete VHS dub of it somewhere ... if I remember correctly, it couldn't be played in Europe because Conny Plank appears in it or something ... and the album kind of went nowhere in North America ... I thank you.
Rowan Akinson?? Don't be daft...haven't got my album here right now, but according to Wiki, she plays the flute. Holger Csukay from Can on French horn, but not him, and not Jake Liebezeit who plays the drums, also from Can either, so probably just a friend? Some actor?
My fav was always 'Revenge' from this album, wonder if they ever made a video of that one? Just a tiny little private shoot, would have looved that! Oh, the disappointment when they released ' Be Yourself Tonight', undescribable!
Hmzz .. when i see Dave walking in that dress .. look good at his face .. looks for sure also Mr Atkinson :-) bytheway stereomusicvideo .. fantastic that you put this video on tube, really good one, there are mo mutch of this song on tube, i hope there i more older songs video's from the one & only greatest band The Eurythmics :-)
@zulucase yes, exactly what i thought! though nothing can compare to bowie's stoic solemn clown walking down the beach as an old woman pleads with him.
Yes, provocative comment by stereomusicvideo, but I can see both sides. A crappy video is (usually) better than no video at all, if that's all that's available. But a lot of people don't seem to care what kind of video quality they upload. If someone trumped me with a better quality clip, I'd simply remove mine. Perhaps YouTube should remove duplicates and instead always just keep the best version of whatever.
Actually looking at stereomusicvideo's channel, he (or she?) seems to have very high standards about what they upload and seems to go to a lot of trouble to source really high quality clips. If only more YouTubers weren't so indiscriminate about what they dump here. For that I reckon good on you - show 'em how it should be done.
Don't forget that a lot of the so-called 'crappy' quality video's have been on YouTube for about 2 or 3 years now (when Youtube didn't have the 'High Quality' option yet).
But hey: it's a great thing that more users put up more video's in higher quality now .. but let's not forget the firsthand users that put up these kinda video's in the first place. Anyway: great quality of a great track this one :-).

Its funny how "In the Garden" wasnt really released here until after "Sweet Dreams" became a huge hit. So those of us in The US were unaware of it

It would've been interesting if the boys from CAN had done more with them, I love the feel of this. Annie's voice is softer and i prefer it.
