  • notice that you said you did your flight training at Oxford, what was it like there? i'm looking into places for flight training now, oxford has caught my eye, but i'm looking into cabair international more, would like to find out from a pilot that has been through training with oxford what it's like there.

also, this could be a personal Q, but how did you fund yourself? as i'v been finding it's very expensive to do (never expected cheap here) so trying to find out what options there are. thanks

  • @lyokoBSTN 20 20 is mainly for RAF or armed forces :) You just need to pass Class1 Medical :)

  • @lak94 lol, yea i'v found that one out, i think your answer was aimed at @harryplop2 rather than me though, i didn't mention anything about eyesight :P

  • What is the requirement for eye sight for passenger flights? I thought it was 20:20 vision but the majority of pilots I see these days wear glasses.

  • nice job tishan :-)

  • Beautiful landing sir!

  • Whats with the wiper stuck in the middle??

  • nice landing :) Flown in a Dash8 with Flybe last summer, was a great flight :D Mind if I ask what flight school you trained at?

  • @neillypilot Cheers .... I did my training at Oxford.

  • @tishan11 ahh nice. OAA are pretty good from what I hear

  • That landing was so soft that its hard to spot when the main gear touched!

    Top job!

  • wow smooth landing with 2 red 2 white!!!!!! PERFECT!!!

  • You must get frustrated with the computer calling you a retard every time you land! : )

  • how do they let you in the cockpit during landing?

  • @willettgarrett : Because I was landing the Plane ! :)

  • So your a pilot for airline?

  • That music made me expect it to crash. Depressing.

  • why did the master alert turn on when the aircraft hit the ground?

  • Nice job! Try Guernsey in a 30kt crosswind- sure concentrates the mind!

  • just out of curiosity .. was the control for the windshield wiper U/S ??

  • @goldilocksdavid : The wiper in the UP position as you see it was more streamlined towards the airflow so it was a lot quieter on the flightdeck when it was parked in this position.

  • The Dash 8 Q400 is a very tricky aircraft to land.

  • Oh bye the way if possible what airline were you with and who your with now. Why did the master caution come on

  • @thejackman11 That was flybe. It's just to inform you that the spoilers have deployed.

  • Nice landing captain but as you touched down a master caution come up on the instrument panel why? But good landing in weather like that because most turbo props are very shaking on turbulance

  • @thejackman11 : Cant remember too much about the Dash, but on every landing the Master Caution will come on. Something to do with the Air Ground Logic.

  • @thejackman11 I'm pretty sure what you guys are calling a master caution, is just the Ground Range Lights as the propellers go into Beta...

  • Lol it's not the master caution it's the ground spoiler advisory light letting you know the ground spoilers have deployed on touch down.

Just for interest, the instrument setup suggest it's actually the first officers landing ;)

  • @thejackman11 the Dash has spoiler konfiguration for ground and flight , and as you are touching down , this light comes on and its nit a master caution^^

  • good video. If you dont mind me asking what airline did you work for. and by the way the dash-8 q400 is it a noisy aircradt andon final and theres severe crosswind and turbulance does the aircraft shake voilntly. sorry about my spelling. people tell me it smells of oil because on the 1st of april im going on flybe dash-8 q400 from leeds to exceter. how high will i go and what speed? Thanks kind regards Jack

  • @thejackman11 : If there's severe Turbulence any Aircraft will shake violently, but you tend to feel it a bit more on the Dash. It is a very stable Plane though and the pilots at flybe are very good ! :) You will fly no Higher that 25,000 Feet Cruising around 240 Knots. Enjoy your flight !

  • @tishan11 this thing can cruise a lot faster than 240 try 360 or 370

  • @bodidley70 :*lol* Is that with the Afterburner On ? Do you realise the Dash 8 is a Turboprop and NOT a balistic missile.....

  • @tishan11

Actually Bodidley is correct the Q400 cruises at 360knots...it's one of the fastest commuter turboprops around....from what i know only the Saab 2000 can match its speed

  • @dragon877 You are right in the respect that it cruises at 360 Kts Ground speed. and thats dependant on wind, altitude, iSA deviation etc. The fastest I have flown a Dash is 387 Kts = Mach 0.600 BUT, in aviation terms Indicated Airspeed (IAS) is a more respected term when discussing speed, so I would like to rephrase that the Dash Cruises at 250KIAS.,

  • Uh, Captain, your wiper is up.

  • @tubeyou443: Lot quieter that way ! :)

  • nice landing

  • during my practicum i was assigned in a q400.. observing pilots.

  • WOW this landing was SICK! I did not Anns that shake when the plane touch the ground :O rely nice video man!but one question: how did you get into cokpit asked you or do you know them?

  • Thanks! The Video Cam was securely fastened onto the Folded up Jump seat. As for how I got into the cockpit .... I was flying the plane! :) It was my last flight on the Q400 before I moved company & thats why I filmed it.

  • Comment removed

  • if you don't mind me asking what company are you with now?

  • Wow great landing!! it was almost flawless!! actually the music didnt bother me like some of the other aircraft vids.

  • nice

  • I agree with that!

  • Why in Gods name did you put music over this???? Ruined a good video

  • @flydude1063 fuck you and the person's cock you rode in on.

  • i live in Glasgow and love the airport, its a Wegis airport

  • i think the minium speed is 120 the service celling is 15000 but it cannot exceed its top speed cause its not got the power!!!!lol

  • Ceiling on the Dash is 25000 Ft, Due to the fact that it doesn't carry Pasenger O2. ie. Drop Down masks. But the A/C has got Bags of power ! It's Broken the Single Engine Climb records. It's very very powerful ! Around 5000HP. if memory serves right. Can easily cruise at 240+ knots.

  • what was the vs for beaking the single engine climb please?

  • Dunno what the V/S was. When I spoke to one of the Q400 Test pilots in Canada, it was him who mentioned that fact.

  • speed depends very much on flap setting and weight.

as said, Fl250 because of oxygen masks.

maximum takeoff power is 5071 HP on EACH engine.

in the simulator its quite easy to get into the overspeed range following an engine failure.

the q400 is a beast in disguise! =)

  • Q400 Pilot then ? :) Yes a Beast indeed !! are you with a UK operator ? It was a Great A/c to Fly. I'm on the 737-700 now, but prefer the handling characteristics of the Good Ol Dash 8

  • yes, i fly the 400.

a german operator for lufthansa regional called augsburg airways.

we get some emb 190/195 so i think my days on the dash are counted next year :(

  • @tishan11

Late answer: No it's a German Lufthansa Regional operator. I'm still on the Q400 and will join our EMB 190/195 fleet this year. I think I will miss her ;)

  • Thats runway 23!

  • Well Spotted ! It is runway 23 ! My Bad !

  • Lovely video though, shame those turboprops get chucked to the back of the sequence quite a lot to make way for 'larger' jets - who often reduce their speeds on approach anyway where as Mr Jersey would happily sit at a high, steady speed on the approach

  • Hey tishan, is Vref Vs1.3 right? And Vref + 20 is the highest speed you can approach right?

  • Yep, you are Right. Vref = 1.3Vs.

And Vref + 20 is the Highest speed buffer used in gusty conditions. It is half the Steady wind + the Gust upto a Max of 20Kts.

    Example: Vref is 120

    Landing Runway 10

    Reported surface winds: 060/12G22

So, take half of the 12, which equals 6....and all of the gust factor, which is 10 (22-12)

    Vapp = 120 + 6 + 10 = 136

    Hope that Helps.

  • Yes sure does, thanks for the great reply.

  • dude that windshield wiper would get annoying

  • Believe Me It Does get annoying !! But when it's Up like it is, it's very quiet on the Flight Deck as opposed to when it's down against the airflow, better view out the window, Yes, but Bloody noisy !!

  • what is a typical Vref for the Q400?

  • It's been a few years since I flew a Dash 8, but from what I recall it was Roughly 116-120Kts.

  • I've seen it as low as 102kts and as high as 119kts.

  • But by putting the wipers away from the parked position, you're removing as Bombardier put it "your primary source of ice detection"!

  • Agreed, in Principle. BUT, "primary source of Ice Detection" wasn't very good, especially at night. The Ice detection System on the Dash 8 was SO sensitive, that at even the Slightest Trace of Ice, you will find "Ice Detected" in Amber on the ED. And to add to it, more often than not, there's no Ice at all on the Wiper Spigot - Even though "Ice Detected" is Displayed on the ED.

  • nice video!

    and good landing
