Like I said in my post, unions do serve a purpose. However, my point is that it should be my choice to join or not. You are also assuming two things 1) All unions are uncorrupt and have my best interests at heart, and 2) I would agree with every stance that the union has. Neither of those assumptions are necessarily true. I do not want unions banned, I all I want is the freedom to choose, which is what 47 would have done.
47 basically says that I, as a worker, have a choice on whether I pay union dues or not. This means that a union will need to pay closer attention to what I, as one of that union's employers, actually wants.
Personally I think that unions are a good thing because someone does need to look out for workers, but I also think that we should have free choice on sending our money to any organization, no matter what or who they represent.
If you take a union job today, the reason your wage is higher is because of the bargining power of the union and what they have won for workers already. Why should you have the right to take a job, not join the union, but keep the higher wage that the union has already raised. Not to metion if the union strikes and gets an even better wage in the future then your wage goes up even if your not a member of that union- that is what we call freeloading.
no one is ever forced to join a union - if the employees of a company want union representation the DOL comes in and conducts a vote - if the majority of the workers feel like their employer isn't treating them fair the union is voted in - amendment 47 is a tactic from big business to take away power from the people - instead of fighting against the middle class working people how about fighting against CEO's who make millions of dollars a year - who's side are you on anyways?
Nice try, Kelley, but we're smarter than that. Why would rich businesses spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to pass a law to increase the rights of laborers? Business cares about one thing: MONEY. This is just a law to make businesses richer by driving down our wages and benefits. Unions aren't the enemy. Unscrupulous employers are the enemy. Unions are the non-profit organizations WE LABORERS created to keep our wages and benefits safe. Amendment 47 is BAD for Colorado. I vote NO on 47.

The real reason behind this amendment is to stop Union bosses from making union dues excessive to increase their income with money that is not taxed. Unions are no longer needed. Yes, unions WERE beneficial....100 years ago, but now adays, Unions pick and choose who they will and won't help. If you say yes, you can still join a union whenever you want. Please, PLEASE, say yes.
I've worked both Union and non-union. The union provides 2 key factors that benefit you. First union wages provide an average 11% higher income than non-union and benefits typically are 18% better than non-union. The increased average wages more than cover the dues fees. The reason large unionized companies are pro 47 is because they can lower benefits, lower wages and no longer are forced to pay the union an additional hourly fee most of which goes into your pension. 47 is a BAD idea.
What is your profession? My mother has been a teacher in Colorado Springs School District 11 for roughly 10 years now and the unions have done no such thing. In fact, the 2% increase in her pay was due to a small group of teachers not in the union. All the D11 union does is reap the benefits of gullible people. Not only this, but if Obama is elected,he and Congress will pass the card check system so unions will be able to tell you how to vote.And if you dont vote with them,you might as well quit
your job. 47 is not a bad idea because the union does not help everybody. Some unions are great, while others are corrupt. I'm glad your union has gotten you better wages. 47 isnt anti-union, it just gives you a choice. This means that you can stay in your union, while myself and my mother can stay out of the union and keep our jobs. Whats even worse, is that 3 weeks ago, she was forced to sit through a PAYED and MANDITORY meeting where a union boss told the whole school how to vote. Yay unions!
