I heard that in Indonesia & Malaysia, silat is just defined as a style. What they both claim to tap on is this mystical power called 'batin' or 'tabus' I think. Don't believe me just talk to any native pesilat but... I'm no pesilat & so far I've yet to see this 'dark art' so highly regarded as "not for everyone". Hehe! Kinda cool to get students into da schools but reality check time! A pesilat claiming he can KO some1 without even touching (!!!) is all I've heard about... but don't see yet

@kormastas Krav claims to have borrowed from many systems and simpled what was blended into simple and sometimes simplistist movement. It is not the end all system and most practioners admit this. It had been proven in the streets of Israel. isn't the street where the rubber hits the road, no pun intended. Besides, no system is original unless it goes back to a time before pointed sticks. It all boils down to grab, hit, kick and don't get hurt while hurting someone else.

hi leopurpleman , my family studied that style of Pukulan Asli Kuntau Melaka a long long way back, the forms we use are more Chinese in Nature ( much like Wing Chun / Karate-Do ) and my dad was a disciple of Seni Silat Gerak Kilat , Cekak Indonesia and Gayong Pasak Malaysia in his earlier years.

Ayer Keroh Melaka - they used to have a club ran by my great uncle - he was a master of both Kuntau Cina and Pukulan Asli Kuntau Melaka. But my uncle is now deceased.

Kuntau ( Kenpo Bahasa Jepang / Jepun ) memang popular dan didalam seni ini juga ada beberapa jenis seperti pukulan yang Halus , Keras , Kilat , Licin dan juga Kunci Kunci yang berasal daripada negeri Cina.

Kuntau di tanah air Melayu , telah bercampur dengan adat adat persilatan dunia Melayu. Apa yang dikata oleh leopurpleman , memang benar sekali. Bukan tiap tiap hari kita berbuah atau berlawan , boleh memang. Ada kala kita menang , ada kala kita kalah.

@kensukekudo1 sorry, in the past malaysia was an relatively `empty` land much as US in the colombus era, then srivijayan empire pointed `general govenor` for this region to take care. almost all malaysian nobles today is srivjayan descendant that rose their own kingdom after the fall of the kingdom.so it come for conclusion that malaysia hasnt own it cultural heritage, since it was srivijayan domain, included silat. they're not open, but there are ready to quick-response-defense. u move quicker with your arms already in that position, rather than u put you hands down.

u shuld be alert by bending wrist. when u bend, the consumed energy with output power-effect is rather huge than u simple attack. and while u r attacking, the other left/right hand is ready to defense simultaneously.

it says that, the kungfu and indonesian martial art almost the same.. especially on silat beksi (for ways.. but that style of silat is only in Betawi.. its an old heritage..

From what i unstd( i speak malay, similar to indonesian), the narrator says that silat beksi is one form of silat that displays a lot of influences by chinese gongfu. their fists face upwards and have a lot more moves involving elbows, different than other schools. However, silat beksi has also become deeply ingrained into the betawi culture, with religion and morality being taught along with the silat. silat beksi practitioners r also encourage to protect others, not just themselves.
