  • WAIT... let me get this right.

The Toyota is better in according to the video in every other way... but the Subi wins cause it has so called better handling ? WHO THE HELL BUY THIS CARS FOR HANDLING AND FUN

The Forester will see the Rav-4 taillights anyday rain or snow.

And the complaining about the steering feel can be fixed because thats where the RAV-5 SPORT comes into play with its tighter steering and sport tuned suspension so anyone talking about handling is thrown out the window.

  • even if you guys thought the Rav4 was better, i STILL wouldve picked the Subaru.

  • is the subaru not available with a manual transmission?

  • Subaru all day.

  • When it comes to snow and mud, 4wd will always be better then awd. Thats why i would rather have the rav4 for off road. I also rather have have the 269 HP. Its a shame about the steering feel in toyota though

  • The Toyota rav-4 v6 not only has AWD but it also has a 4x4 lock. There is not a Subaru on this planet that has that! Idiots! The rav4 is not only faster and has a better transmission, it has a better model not shown here, the "sport" much better suspension, tighter and wider tires! And its cheaper too. 28,850 MSRP.

Do some research! If you don't believe me, go drive both of em yourself. I did.

    Bring it Subaru dykes!

  • @Notyourfriend123

Search "Subaru Forester AWD Uphill comparison. The forester DESTROYS The Rav 4 in every way off road. Not even close. You'd need a 4runner SR5 to come close to what Subaru did with their symetrical AWD. It's not even meant for 4x4ing and it still trashes everything in it's class ...Drive your toyota.. you're getting ripped off. Don't worry if you get stuck though, a Subaru will be there to pull you out.

  • Subaru´s 4x4 system in the automatic version is similar to the RAV´s. No mid differential only just a electonicaly controlled coupling. So the advance is vanished. Now fuel consumption is a theme. The Toyota engine is much more economical.. The Subaru boxer has a much stronger drinking because of its construction, 2 cylinders lines with big thermical loss. The Rav is much more roomy and with greater space flexability! The Toyota is objectiv the best car.

  • Subaru's AWD is way more superior

  • I love Subarus. They have the best AWD system.

  • were they trying to be funny at the end putting him in the toyota with just a stroller but in the subaru with a crap ton of stuff?

  • what is with these guys and quirks..

  • Сравнили жопу с пальцем.

  • I object to your use of "quirk" and "mash-up" and your assessment of the Rav4's looks.

  • subaru its in other level., I keep with subaru

  • @bccbrd22 nice, i think im going to get a subaru next, but im not sure, my gf might be getting a audi, i want atleast one of us to have a awd, so if she has a audi..might still go with a sti, or i might go rwd, but atm iv got my 4 spd 65' beetle and my 6 spd 2012 chevy cruze

  • Rav 4 FTW!

  • I noticed that in a lot of the 'random car vs subaru' comparisons, the subaru generally wins because it's more fun to drive and it's extremely capable. I don't think you'd be bored driving a subaru, which is something you can't say about most vehicles.

  • guys, you and I know that its not the horsepower, its the torque.

  • I really liked the review. Honest and real. This will help me sell more Subies! Now the 2012 model boasts a timing chain, and an oil filter on TOP of the motor.

  • @bccbrd22 pass a 3rd petal? and i know, its lame that people are that stupid though cus driving manual is not only better but way more fun, lol, atm iv got a 4 speed and a 6 speed :)

  • RAV4 is for people who need a crossover with 4wd for light snow/rain and lots of cargo + dependability. The V6 is there for the highway passing, where it is quite a beast. The steering feel is non-existent, like any other Toyota.

The Forester has a better 4wd system and a much more rigid chassis (from an Impreza) and better driving fun. The turbo engine is quite good, but the 4spd auto-box nerfs the turbo. Surprising roomy and capable.

  • @Trades46 There's a major differance between 4wd and AWD...you just insulted a Subaru enthusiast...maybe you should do your work a little more about AWD AND 4WD!!!

  • @rdiaz206 Sorry for mixing up the terms; Too easy to mismatch due to marketing lingo these days. Yes i know: 4wd means locking center/rear diffs and on-demand traction used in trucks and Wranglers, and the AWD is a full-time system used on roads.

Doesn't change the fact the Toyota's AWD system (marketed as 4wd for whatever reason) is not as good as the multi-plate unit found in the Subaru AWD.

  • @Trades46 "The steering feel is non-existent, like any other Toyota."

The LFA has no steering feel ? How about that ISF ? Or what about the RWD scion FR-S? Or maybe the GS350 F-Sport has no steering feel also ?

The ONLY good cars subi has that performers good is the STI and that subi BEST performing car their best car cant beat Toyotas best performing car hell none of subi cars can beat the 414 hp ISF.

AND FYI if this was the SPORT model Rav-4 it would handle better.

    Toyota > Subi

  • @Toyota4Life Obviously Mr Toyota lover has been living under a rock for since 2004 when the Supra/Celica/MR2 was murdered. None of the cars above has a Toyota badge on them. And don't give me the garbage of badge engineering either. Even then, the LFA is still slower compared to the cheaper GT-R and the ISF comes up short to the M3. The GS is still being outsold by every other E/5/A6 out in the real world.

Toyota was a good company, and i do hope that the FR-S would bring back the glory days

  • Comment removed

  • my answer is the f250 turbo diesel 4x4

  • the really stupid thing about the forester 4 speed is it used to have more gears, and a manual option like good cars have, but nope, i hate the new forester, however id take a 06 or 05 forester xt anyday

  • Good video. Good reviewers and points.

  • I'd take a Subaru over any Toyota on a snowy day any day of the week in a heartbeat.

  • @jmahizzle Really ?

Cause I would take Celica GT4 Turbo over any subi on a Snoyw day

  • Gooooooooooooooooo Subie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The RAV4 "Sport" is an option package which adds a spoiler and a red badge and bigger wheels. Not really performance upgrades but could possible make the car feel more fun to drive.

  • @chewsir

ugh, it has a "Sport-ier" suspension.

  • @tinhinnh You're right, however the only difference in suspension is the front struts. The sway bars, links, and rear struts are identical in the Limited and Sport versions. You can check out the OEM parts list online.

  • How about Nissan X-trail?

  • @superhanis The american/canadian markets don't get those cars. We have the Rogue and on the bigger size, the Murano, and on the smaller end the Juke.

  • Dependable is not quirky.

  • The 'yota's not fun to drive? Should've test the Rav4 Sport then.

  • I want a 1 million speed tranny. lol but yeah a 4 speed auto is dated.

  • he reminds me of a mix between jack black and tyler labine

  • that wasn't much of a comparison...

  • both are tiring vehicle

  • In the midst of shopping for either Forester/Rav4, replacing my Xterra. Test driving preferred the Forester, more engaging, less body roll, but will probably go with Rav4 V6, more towing capacity, locking diff., The Rav4 is the most efficient compromise to my Xterra .

  • the Subaru's looks do certainly not appeal to me.. it looks sort of cheap in my eyes i'd go for the Toyota any day and i don't care if it's not as fun on the roads to drive since i love doing some off roading

  • who would rather pick a toyota for a Subaru?

i mean im a honda fanboy but given the chance to pick CR-V of Forester, i would pick the forester in a heartbeat

  • Your bald head is quircky..

  • I would rather have a strong and proven 4 speed than a flimsy 6 speed.

  • The 4 speed auto in the Forrester is just embarrassing.

  • I hated my crude sti based turbo forester transmission and lousy mpg.. so I sold it. otherwise it was a blast.. such a shame

  • I see a language class coming for you guys.

  • So Subaru is more quirkier

  • Subaru is overpriced and old fashioned.

  • nice video... id go for the Subaru Forester as feel the bigger AWD/4x4 could be a bit to much for everyday use.

  • @glencw66, No.04, Neither of them. We do not recommend you these two, as there are many better options in the market. None of these two, offers the on- and off-road comfortability, one desires nowadays. Thank you.

  • ...and i've taken them off road.

  • My brother has a 99 Outback Sport with 200k on it and has never replaced the timing belt or rebuilt the engine. I rolled my 2008 Outback and drove it away (after being flipped back over of course) All of my Subarus have easily surpassed 200k with little maintenance. Safe and reliable. I'm sure the Toyotas' are fine too.

  • @MWorsa not as good as subaru. im 3rd in my family who got the toyota and its not as good as subaru trust me

  • Cool vid...stop using the word "quirk" to mean something both good and bad. Doesn't it mean something sort of odd?

  • mooooog

  • Subaru all the way! Ain't a damn thing wrong with a 4spd auto. Half the moving parts twice the reliability. If you really are a pussy who needs more gears than you can keep up with then buy a mercedes. Plus subaru's been perfecting that 4spd for 20+ years, so i think its trustworthy...

  • sad they cant put a proper mirror that is not dangerous on the outside of the car for reversing ???????? some people are sooooo dumb subaru people ...

  • I had to Google Quirk... Just to make sure... >.<

  • I wish that they would shut the fuck up with the word quirk!

  • So is a "quirk" a good thing or a bad thing?

  • im sorry to me subaru is better in handling quality crash safety

  • Subaru has a higher crash safety rating.

  • 4cy vs V6???

  • @Exia2004 Turbo 4cylinder, quite a large 4cyl too.

  • your issue is not the 4 speed automatic its that your buying the same basic engine as an sti and buying it with an automatic. Manual FTW

  • Just because you have 8 speeds out there doesn't mean that all cars need one...

  • BUTH FOR ME SUBARU IS BETTER VEHICULE THAT TOYOTA HAVE A CENTER GRAVITY BOXER ENGINE FOR BETTER HANDLING TOYOTA IS V6 TRANSVERSAL WICH IS NOT GOOD FOR HANDLE TO ME A PREFER SUBARU ALL THE WAY

  • @TheJuanito1212 You need to learn how to you punctuation. Otherwise, its difficult to read what you're saying.

  • i love my subaru impreza wrx, but for a CUV i bought the RDX. its just more fun and has pretty good power and torque.

  • nothing wrong with a four speed really, this is kind of a shitty review...

  • and once again. I wouldn't take either off road.

  • The Toyota Rav 4 V6 4WD gets 17/22 not 19/26 as stated here. At least get the MPG right.

  • @Nbuilder1 do you have a "2011" rav 4?

  • @Lacross523

My wife has a 2011 3.5L V6 4WD. And it gets about 21/22 MPG combined driving in the winter.

  • @Nbuilder1 oh..well guess im wrong. very sorry about that

  • How long did it take you two to pick which car to make out in?

  • These guys r supprisingly not annoying as car reviewers. Keep up the good work guys

  • I'm a Toyota guy, but for a cross over .. Forester FTW especially when parts are interchangeable between Subaru models which means you can have a Forester with STi parts !

  • get a real job

  • If you are driving an automatic transmission offroad, you need to just stop doing reviews now..

  • @TheRealDeathSheep You are probably not off-roading yourself to tell something like that. A lot of serious off-roader are driving automatics.

  • We started to buy a RAV4, but the Toyota dealer messed all of the paperwork up, and tried to cheat us of an $8,000 difference! After three hours at the Toyota dealer we just left because it really wasn't worth the wait or aggravation. So we went and tried a Forester out and loved it, so we bought it. and I'm really glad we did because it is amazing in the worst of road conditions. Which I assume the RAV4 is too, but I'm really impressed with it

  • The Forester could use at least a 5-speed auto or (groan) CVT like the Outback. But the CVT Subaru models have paddle-shifters though.

  • @76carmel The CVT in the legacy SUCKS! but the new impreza, it pretty much rocks. im not quite sure how it would do in the forester...

  • @markhenderson123

I've heard many questions about CVTs. Usually they do well in hybrid vehicles with their drivetrains. The only major manufacturers that do it well is Subaru, but like you said, still has its downfall with from what I hear engine whininess and high rev range, and Nissan. Nissan has that done with their cars and unibody SUVs (Murano and Rogue). The paddle shifters can work as 6 speeds in manual mode (that's what Subaru reps say).

  • @markhenderson123

Remember, I also said "groan" when I mentioned CVT because they tend to have flaws like you experienced with the Legacy. If I want the Legacy, I'll consider the one with the flat-6 engine with a 5 speed auto. Thanks for the info.

  • @76carmel Well, don't get me wrong! it's a great system in the legacy, just getting up to high way speed and quick starts make you think this engine is gonna blow! haha.seems like they've addressed those annoyances in the impreza though! so maybe they will do the same if they put it in the forester!

  • If you presented your review more in terms of 'Why you would/wouldn't buy car X" they would be better. Other than this, some very solid reviews. Particular enjoyable because they are different than the others I typically watch.

  • Both are very cool but I prefer Subaru.

  • Hey Romanmicagearguy! I was wondering where the dirt roads you tested these two vehicles are? Is it near Boulder like you said in the video? If so, where in Boulder?

  • Toyota has the most problems of any auto maker, just read the consumer reports guide and see for yourself.

  • lol

  • I have a 2008 V6 Rav4 that I just simply law. we had 1 of the worst winters in new york ever in 2010 and this car worked wonders. this car proved to be more than capable while driving through a blizzard from new york to ohio. lots of power, excellent 4wd, and very roomy. Did I say just how much I love this car?

  • Not sure if you guys know what "quirk" means, but otherwise, great video! I enjoy watching all your stuff.

  • @jonathanlong724 peculiarity?

  • Both of those cars shuld be $21,000 not $31,000.

  • @TZakPol This would be the case if USD didn't depreciate so much over the past couple years~

  • I love Subaru but one thing my buddy pointed out is that for some reason Subaru has moon roofs with no tint

  • i see some more people enjoying your videos

  • @Freddeysup the door to the trunk opens sideways so when u park in a parking lot, noone can drive by ur rav4 because there is no space in the driving lane

  • @Freddeysup How come the RAV4 is a better car? Are u mad? Subaru handles way better onroad and with that symetrical awd is insane in snow and mud.

  • @alienlivingform Nop, sadly ur the one whos both mad & wrong :(

  • @Freddeysup (rofl) Yeah right :D

  • this video shows a single opinioned two persons. it reveals that these persons are belonging to subaru company i.e general motors. whenever there is a contest it should be from both sides. in this video the toyota is disgraced. while the toyota is the first choice of many people due to its low price and high quality. the general motors is in fact a very scientific manufacturer of the class vehicle but its prices are very costly as compared to toyota.

  • this is not a test drive in a shot flashed just the leading faces, dirt ?)))) went with me to go fishing, I will show dirt and it is, a country road about anything, both machines are absolutely not ready for off-road clearance of nothing Subaru turbo bury her in a little clay, four speed automatic transmissions with its long, may help, but not much. At Toyota on the contrary, a good tyagovity

  • subaru pride

  • Stupidest video ever made about the Rav. I have a four cylinder '07 rav and I drive that thing like a damn corvette. Tight corners with bikes and skis on my rav and it still does everything fine. Except when it comes to going up the mtns., I'd prefer a little more power but hell, the rav is hell of a car and I'm going to hold on to it for a long time!

  • stop saying quirk if you don't know what it means

  • STOP SHOWING YOUR MUGS AND SHOW MORE OF THE CARS

  • defender !!!!! all the way

  • my camry can do that kinda "offroad" the did

  • A very good test video, i think the RAV 4 is more a family car than a crossover.

The Forester is more crossover and the design is very good!

Forester is the better car i would say

  • @MrHarie09

I disagree. I think Rav4 is better. I mean what is Subaru thinking with the 4 speed automatic and a 5 speed stick. Seriously. It is 2011. Even KIA stopped using 4 speeds 10 years ago. 6-speed automatics are everywhere and 6 speed manuals. And here you have a 4 speed Forester. Get out of here. That, and its much smaller on the inside. Rav4 has more space than Outback.

  • Anyone that buys a subaru should be punched in the nose,

  • the santa fe can actually beet toyota in alot certain older models of the santa fe have a 3rd rowe seat and now tis bigger without

  • Ehhmmm....The Rav4 is one of the worst 4WD SUVs in its segment. It shares the same useless 4WD system like the CR-V.

When it comes to real 4WD in a small SUV, the Forester is one of the winners (along with the Vitara).

Who needs a huge V6 engine that at the end of the day wont be any help because the 4WD system sucks?

Even thought I am not fan of the 4 speed auto tranny (it needs at least 5) I prefer a really good Turbo Engine with one of the best AWD system. Subaru any time over Toyota.

  • Toyta 1, Subaru WRONG!

  • i liked these guys review.

  • He's talking about the 4 speed like people are going to race a Forester. I mean, don't get me wrong I love our Forester, but it's not a performance vehicle.

  • cvt (continuously variable transmission) is how they fixed that with my outback, no gears, no jerks very smooth...

  • 5MT!

  • Comment removed

  • subaru forester the best¡¡¡

  • it would be nice to see more of the cars and less of your faces, while you're making your comments. just get to the point and when you talk about something, show it on the screen at the same time

  • @iotache РАЛЛИ НЕ НАША ТЕМА П. НЕБОЛЧИ ВОТ ГДЕ "ДОРОГИ"

  • @iotache

Good point... and these guys faces are not much to look at either. LOL

  • Can't wait for the 2012/2013 line up. Subaru is going to bring it, I hope lol. But when a car manufacturer doesn't change a lot in 1-2 years, its usually because they are investing in something bigger. Go Subaru! I hope Forester will get 6 speed manual. I will definitely buy one then...

  • I wish you had the Sport V6 trim on the Rav4 - there are virtually no reviews specifically with Rav4 Sport.

  • now this answers back to my mind!

  • Please use the word "Quirk" less often

  • They should know, there will likely be a CVT transmission in the Subarus soon

  • i just want a highlander.

  • these vehicle are for work horse, you guy want to go fast just get a crotch rocket, it so fast you piss yours pants 0-60 in 2sec

  • subaru need 91 + octane rav4 required only 87 try and put 87 octane in the subaru and see how fast it go. turbo engine doen't last, small engine get stress out as it add miles.

  • subaru need 91 + octane rav4 required only 87 try and put 87 octane in the subaru and see how fast it go. turbo engine doen't last to 300,000 mile

  • rav4 v6 awd 0-60 6.2 sec subaru forester xt 0-60 9.2 sec okay let go with the subaru in the dust haa haaaa. any way toyota own subaru as in traction It all come donw to the tires.

  • @tuanrav4 Your wrong about 0 to 60 time of the Forester XT buddy. The time you have posted is of the non-turbocharged engine. The actually 0 to 60 time of the Forester XT is:

    6.8 according to Edmunds.com

    6.6 according to Motor Trend

6.7 according to Car and Driver

All in the mid 6 range and all from credible sources. The XT is not that far off from the Rav4's 0 to 60 time. And considering the Rav4 has 45 more horsepower than the Forester it shouldn't be a surprise that the Toyota is quicker.

  • rav4 v6 awd 0-60 6.2 sec subaru forester xt 0-60 9.2 sec okay let go with the subaru in the dust haa haaaa. any way toyota own subaru

  • Subaru has better AWD then Toyota does. Because Subaru has Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive.

  • Subaru AWD POWER

  • Please Toyota has out sold more of the Rav4s then these Foresters. You guys got paid by Subaru like all reviewers do. Subaru you need to get off not only the 4spd auto but the timing belts ughh how I hate thee. One of the reasons why I shy away from Subaru cause of the timing belts. I've driven Rav4s in the passed I think they are alot of fun. I've driven Foresters and just doesn't do anything for me.

  • @soyntgo4it The 2011 foresters cum with timing chain & DOHC now...

  • @xdQnx Yes the base engine doesn't, I'm talking about the Turbo that has the belt.

  • @soyntgo4it There is nothing wrong with the timing belts on Subaru. If there is then you are not maintaining your car properly. And it's not like you are replacing them every month, or a year for that matter. Selling numbers tell absolutely nothing. Probably that one company spends a lot more money on marketing. RAV4 fun... yea right... on a straight line, maybe but debatable. Take the SAWD and flat engine on a high speed bendy roads and it will give you bigger adrenaline kick than Six Flags.

  • @mando1337 Well I didn't purchase either so doesn't matter anyhow.

  • @mando1337 Stop trying convince yourself that timing belt is normal in a 2012 engine. I own a 03 Forester and I can tell you that a timing belt replacement in a Subaru can be really costly with all of those pulley idlers and the tensionner... Furthermore, in my case, I had to replace the engine 3000 miles after timing belt remplacement because of blown headgaskets and bad crank bearing... This is my 2th and last Subaru. Selling numbers tell everything.

  • @marr0094 I'm aware how much the cambelt replacement costs in a Subaru so try something else to surprise me.The belt is replaced every 5 years or 60000 miles. It's not like an oil change so please do NOT make a massive deal of it because it's not working. Furthermore don't tell me Subarus in 2012 use the same engine as your 03. In fact I suggest you read about the latest EJ

Sorry to hear about your HG but potentially the older the car the more problems you'll get regardless of the make

  • @mando1337 Putting almost 1000$ in a car when you already have normal wear and tear to pay for (brakes, tranny oil change, battery) is frustrating! Why not doing the things right from the starts?? Don't tell me about the "NEW" EJ... Wow! The HG problem was suppose to be solved in 2003 and ooohh after in 2005 and, know what, I heard about some 2007's with HG leaks!! And, google "subaru piston slap" just for fun... Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Do you own a Subaru yourself?

  • @mando1337 BTW, my previous Subaru was a 1996 Legacy with the EJ22 engine. First, the car is still on the road today with the original engine (no rebuilt) and 281000 miles on the clock. That was a good engine!! Seconth, it was "normal" to have a timing belt, spark plug wires, no variable-valve timing and a 4 speed auto tranny in 1996 but not in 2003!! Come on, we are in the 21th century!

  • @marr0094 Stop demonising your car :D

The Forester regularly is being voted one of the most reliable cars by TUV. I don't know what cars have you been driving in your life but it is simply not possible to have faultless car. I asked you to surprise me and you are coming up with the ring failure.. Like it's a big secret. Tell me something I don't know.

Not trying to be funny but "subaru piston slap" search gives 64600 results. "Toyota brake problems" comes with 9,250,000 results.

  • @mando1337 Ring failure? Did I wrote something about ring failures? I wrote something about costly ridiculous timing belt remplacement, about infamous HG leaks and piston slap issue. Don't know why but I prefer to pay one time for brakes problem to pay for engine rebuilt every 100000 miles. And please, just don't look at the number of results, read a bit more... Just for your info, my other car is a 2004 Toyota Matrix. Anyway, we don't have the same opinion and it's ok. Goodbye!

  • @marr0094 It is NOT ridiculously costly to replace the belt since you do it every 5 years or 60000 miles. I don't know how much it costs in USA but it seems in Europe we can live with it just fine. My friend recently had to do her belt on a 3 year old Audi A3.It was more costly than the Subaru. There goes your theory

I asked you to read about the "new" EJ because it's chain driven.. Happy now?

Flat engine is not for everyone, if you are not prepared to live with it buy a "normal" one.Goodday :)

  • @mando1337 Haha, you always have something to a reply for me!! I already know that the new EJ is chain driven, and it was the time!! I'm aware about flat engines differences. But, there is not that much differences as other engines... Flat engine does not excuse HG and piston slap issues. Flat engine does not excuse 4 speed auto tranny. I'm in Canada and my last timing belt replacement cost me about 750$. It's an another 750$ between other car repairs and monthly bills! Goodbye!

  • @marr0094 Oh and if I'm ever to be involved in a serious car accident I'll give any money in the world to be the driver/passenger sitting in the Subaru. And you know why!

  • Well I'm a Subaru fan and yes forester is better car but toyota owns Subaru. Actually both company are coming up with this new car Toyota ft-86 and Subaru ft-86.

  • @lil1filipino Toyota doesn't own Subaru, they have less than a 20% share. the Subaru version is going to be called the brz...but no AWD :(

  • Toyota RAV4 Club (2nd generation) on the facebook
