Can anyone who's in their 40s or 50s tell me the name of a children's programme on Roman occupied Britain? It was shown in the early 70s and was on TV between 4 and 5pm ( in the UK). That posh guy from The Devils was in it. WHAT WAS IT CALLED? Ta!
Most of the sets and props in Carry On Cleo were made for the 'real' Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor. The first attempt at making it was at Pinewood Studios, but Liz Taylor got sick and nearly died in the first few weeks of filming and it was postponed for about a year. During that year, the sets went unused until the Carry On producers got onto the idea of using them.
Cleopatra's second attempt at filming was at Cinecittà outside Rome. England for Egypt was a dumb idea.
@maxcardun Jon Pertwee is not in this clip, Jon plays an old sage that shows Caesar (Kenneth Williams) a vision that he is going to be stabbed, this is later in the film towards the end
Ahhh! A milk bath....those ancient Egyptians sure knew how to "live it up"! Reminds me of the lass who called her local dairy to order 20 gallons of milk so that she could take a bath in it. The employee asked her if she wanted it pasteurized. She replied, "No, just up to my waist". Or how about the couple that got married in a bathtub....it was a double ring ceremony!
I first watched this movie more than twenty-five years ago: as a young paramedic unable to sleep while on duty, I watched late-late-late-late night TV while everyone else slept...I stumbled upon this one at about 0300, and found myself laughing aloud even though I was alone!
To me, that's the mark of a great movie and it remains one of my favorites to this day.
Theres only one other guy that could have done that dirty growl/laugh that Sid James does in this scene and that was Mike Reid of EastEnders fame. Anyone who has watched Eastenders in the past will know who I'm refering to.
the cute thing is he was "married" to Babs Windsor. Babs (Peggy Mitchell) is still in the show and still looking fabulous even though she must be 105 years old by now
There was an other one who could laugh this way! He was László Csákányi, the famous Hungarian actor who lent his voice to Sid James in the Hungarian version. It is brilliant!
I saw this scene for a thousand times, first for getting enough of laughing on it, then to draw Sid's laughing face with charcoal, finally to slow it down frame by frame and make sure Amanda Barrie's fanny is visible when she is getting out of the pool. IT IS! :)
The best Carry on, and one of the greatest comedies!
He he... thats my warped sense of humour. Somehow that joke came to me as i was commenting on some film and made me laugh myself. Then i started posting it on several comedy places... you might come across it again!
Check out her Amanda's grizzly adams between 1:53-1:54 using freezeframe. No wonder Sid fainted.

Wait. Thought you were the English guy.
1 - I don't take Krauts seriously.
2 - We "Seppos" kicked your ass back in WW2 (That's the big one, in case you forgot, fatty)
Enough said.
Good Game.
