im From Florida & My Bestfriends Were Both From Upnorth( Newyork & Virginia) And they both Said " You Talk So Country , Like Evrybody Down Here Sound So Country. Like Yall got Southern Accents" . .i Was Like "WTF!? Im Floridian , We Dont Have Accents , Im just speaking english" . . . I Was Confused .
"Tuh". It's Too. Tomorrow. Not Tuhmorrow. I'm floridian, I do the same. We have a lazy accent, with a lot of "uhs" in our words like.."Tuhmorrow is uhh great day for fishing". :I
I'm from Florida. I've got an accent, but mine sounds alot more Southern. Not like twangy Southern but with some pronunciation similarities. Sorry, bt I cant really hear an accent from you. Just kinda sounds like regular American english.
Well I Came From Miami And Everyone In My Class (Non Hispanics Just American) Say I have An Accent And My Friend Said Its Adorable All Tough I Do Mess Up On Some Words like Other, Random and some others when I say Other I say Otter Sometimes >.< Soo yeah When My friend hears me talk shes Like Oh My god You have a Cute Accent Does Your Brother Sound like that..(She likes him) Soo She really loves it and wants a bf with My accent except guy voice rofl But Um Yeah.. ;o
Florida accents don't really work the way other states do, just because hardly anyone's family has been here more than two generations. I'm from FL, and people either have the native Florida accent (like the girl in the video), one from another state (usually the one their parents are from), or just the standard American accent.
I'm from Hialeah and I'm Cuban American. I know I sometimes speak cutting off some syllables but other than that I don't think there is necessarily a very distinguishable Miami accent.
I think (as someone who's lived in FL their whole life and has friends from all different parts) that there's pretty much 3 accents you can get. In North FL you can get a "Southern" accent, in South FL you can get the Miami accent, and in Central & SW FL you get some mix of a "Standard" American accent, and of course anyone can get a "Standard" American accent throughout the state too depending on if your community composes a lot of out-of-state ppl. And of course the African American Dialect.
That manner of speech would not sound alien *at all* in my home State of New Jersey. Btw, northeastern Jersey sounds a bit more like "New Yawk" and all South Jerz speaks on the "pheh-oon" while at "heh-oom". Then again, all southern NJ people will cook in a "pan" whereas somebody in the northeast will tend to say "peh-yin". In central and northwest NJ, the accent is neutral. Regardless of these eccentricities, your "accent" would be taken for granted as local up here. -very interesting. :)
@kaitlolyn cmon no one u know??? florida is a southern state with souther people..i understand nothernersare down here by the droves but i live in ft myers and all the locals have accents.. been to miami tampa st pete orlando.. no i will say for some reason the mojority of blacks have the accent in those towns and in the smaller towns u find whites with the southern accent as well as blacks.. idk could it be the majority of migrants are whites from the north???? that may b the case.
@kaitlolyn i been in miami gardens opa-locka kendall stop at a mini market in over town people sound southern to me and the ones who dont sound southern tell me they are original from north.i ask people who say florida doesnt have a southern accent to ask themselves do they think once u cross the Georgia or Alabama state line the southern culture or accent stop? alot south florida towns are old southern towns whos identity has been diversied but that shouldnt take away from historical properties
@CyborgNinja7 so are we saying that triditionally florida is a southern "speaking" state, if you can trace your floridian roots back far enough as an individual white or black?? I live in Ft myers and its the same story if your from here you sound act and live southern if your like 1 st 2nd or 3rd generation then chances are you will not sound like the locals. with that being said the misconception isnt is southern floridians have an accent but rather if all floridians are natves..i
@touggie2000 Um, no, that's not what I'm saying. What I am saying is that it's pretty known that blacks in South Florida have a more southern accent. Blacks from outside of the area have the accent you are more familiar with.
i was born and raised in sofla and didn't think i had an accent till i went up to Massachusetts and this chick from Boston told me i sounded like a new yorker.
sometimes I talk to this guy on the phone he's from flordia I forgot what part but every time he speaks he sounds white not that im being funny or anything. But he sounds like a full fledge whote boy and he's.black. Espically when he says the word "lie"lol
I used to live in south Florida. A couple years ago, I moved to North Carolina. Apparantly, I have a really strange accent. I would be having a conversation an a random person would ask me if I was from around there. lol. Apparantly I say some words weird, such as solo, love, accent and gorgeous. I argue that everything is coke, not just coke... and aunt... and nuke (as in microwave)...
@CrissySomethin97 It kinda depends on where you live. If you're in a big city then no, you're just gonna hear a bunch of people with northern accents but if you go to the panhandle or anywhere that's in the middle of nowhere...you'll hear the accent. Btw I don't think this girl has an accent
@XAcidRainbowX ;o like 'cause my voice is like retarded haha, and its kinda low haha... but i really don't know.. and i don't see how i could have one :C lol :OOOOO
I love the Florida accent on girls... some of the inflections are pretty posh sounding, like an English middle class accent. Words beginning with 'o' like "ocean" have this posh (for want of a better description) inflection. It's really nice sounding.
Yeah people in California and Florida do have a lot of the same accents especially Southern California and South Florida. I believe they're called neutral accents.
I'm from Southern California. From a glance, we essentially have the same accent, or in some cases, "no accent". They say its due to the fact we are both cultural melting pot regions. But now that I listen closely, you sound a lot like someone I know from there, so there IS a distinguishable accent. For example, when you guys say "yes", to me it sounds like "yesss" and "and" sounds like "Ayand". So, to you, my "and" probably sounds slightly like "end".
im From Florida & My Bestfriends Were Both From Upnorth( Newyork & Virginia) And they both Said " You Talk So Country , Like Evrybody Down Here Sound So Country.
