CVT has room for improvement in its design, and perhaps a little more focus on either performance or economy in the programming of it would help. but ultimately, the theory is solid: keep the engine at it's peak horsepower (not peak torque) under throttle. the fun is taken away tho by the fact that there is no change in acceleration (or "jerk", the third order differential of displacement), so it feels slower. often, the acceleration (2nd order d2y/dx2) is at least on par with the engine size
Isn't made for performance? Right, I guess that's the reason then when you floor it, the CVT constantly keeps the engine revving at its peak... no lag from shifting....
@SPTSuperSprinter156 Actually it isn't made for performance at all. Instead of having 5 or 6 direct gears, view it as "multiple" gears in between. The CVT is built for economy. (I know your post was from a long time ago)
If you have a GTS like mine (its my first car) you can u the paddle shifters to drop gear although it automatic and save some gas. I'm not a racer, but i think ur looking at more a Evo and stuff, this car just a tad behind for racing with just 156 HP. u can get some air dams and really tear it up in one of theses. my best friend has a used 2005 Evo, and he does race. yea, he is great at it.

I have smoked BMW M3's Mustangs and even a Corvette. This car has only 153 horsepower but it drives like it has 300! I have gone over 100mph easy and 124mph governed it just as quick. Who the hell needs and Evo when I got this beast!

Ok in a drag strip the Lancer is not fast but on the highway the Lancer GTS intimidation factor (looka like an Evo) and me reving it up and driving 80-120mph all the time really messes with Papa in Corvette or Executive in M3. I have the balls to go pedal to the metal and pass them up. No one knows what kind of Lancer it is 120mph passing them up! It rules!

The EVO X is configured with a Dual Clutch Electronic Manual. It is basically a Manual Transmission but configured to be all electronic and computer controlled.
The Lancer CVT is based on a pulley system and involves no gears. the two pulleys increase and decrease in size to compliment user input and throttle position. It is programed to be Fuel efficent first and proformance second. Also the software that the CVT is based on is input aware and learns a drivers habits and adapts
hey 08 lancer owner body kits are available on ebay.. just as i thought, the body kit looks evo X but the pics are to small.. 749 buck complete body kit..
this totally takes the fun out of driving... the sound of the engine gets too monotonous and boring after it reaches its peak RPM... its just not cool... i'll just stick to my manual transmission
i beg to differ, maybe on a normal road, but on a track, give me paddles. It allows you to be way more aggressive with a car. F1/nascar use them for a reason.
Williams wanted to us a CVT at one point but got banned by the FIA. The reason why all these race series uses paddles is because that's the best allowed by the governing organizations not because it's the best. For example the DSG box upshift faster the the F1 boxes but they will never be allowed to use it.

Think 127... its as much as we get on Dyno.... :( A Short Ram from RRM (roadracemotorsports) brings it up to 133HP max... but it sounds badass IMO... new pulley, new exaust, might give this car a better chance... btw I own an ES, same thing as GTS without the Sportstronic and exterior extras...

Development has already started on a Transmission/ECU override. aka a CVT Controller.
This way you can put max torque to the ground at fixed RPMs

use sequential mode (with the paddle or stick) its fater and saves gas. tha manual tranny clocks in 0-60 at 7.7seconds. with the CVT its at 9seconds.
