The surge was effective in putting more troops on the ground to reduce conflict, but the goal at this time is to drawback a bit to allow Iraq to show that it can hold its own establishment. Hmmm, so how many more surges do we need before we meet our opposite goal. I can't believe people fall for this crap when it's right in their face.

But even then, there still would be 6,000 more troops in Iraq than there were when the surge began.

I'll play your game for a second and say the numbers are correct. 8,000 draw down in February next year, another 8-10,000 could draw down a few months after that, followed by more. Had we not done the surge, I gurantee you from my expirience, and fellow Marines expirience in Iraq we wouldn't even be talking about bringing anyone home.

That's not true! McCain has been present 10 times out of 14 when voting on military issues. I've got news for you the surge didn't work & Obama/Biden need to speak about this. The surge was suppose to give the Iraqis time to develop a new government, laws/order and this didn't happen, so it failed to do what it was suppose to do. More soldiers means clearing out the terrorists, but when our soldiers leave, the terrorists return & begin a genocide. Bush threw a rock in a hornet's nest & although we have a moral obligation to fix it we can't afford it. We need to pull out for our economy
