  • Using rope light is a brilliant idea for this kind of thing! Great idea!

  • why cant you use dc and ac wires together

  • brilliant vid, so easy to follow! could you do a 4-way switch?

  • Very good video, well explained.

  • good video

  • i know this helps and i know this circuit but why did you leave the neutral wire out it is simple and all but why

  • i installed 3-way occupancy sensor switches in my stairway and they don't work.

they turn on when they want, and stay on. some times they shut off, sometimes they stay on for hours and hours. the first switch in the line does not work, but the second switch works. but the lights stay on. can you please help?

  • excellent demo!!! i have a question: how many 3-way switched can there be hooked up in a row? I have 3 Leviton Motion Activated Light Switches that can be used as 3-Way switches. I want to install one switch on each floor. This is a three family, and I want one motion switch on each floor. Any switch should be able to turn on all three lights in the staircase. Is this possible with 3-way switches, or do i need a 4-way on the 2nd floor?

  • Thank you, that was very helpful.

  • i m little bit confuse at last of video.

  • i made a nice breaker tester with a three way switch once... by accident... the breakers work! =)

  • your wicked, need more people like you!!

  • so the 2 wire goes to the single pole and the 3 wire (edison 3 wire goes to the 3 way?) I am a 1st year apprentice and am starting to get this stuff but have lots to learn in the trade. Do you have a 4 way demo?

  • thank you very helpful

    thanks

  • Terry, I have a bedroom with one pole switch and 4 outlets. The switch turns on the cieling light and also controls an outlet on the same wall. of the other 3 outlets only one works? I used an outlet tester and no lights came on for the two which arent working. Can I remove the outlet under the switch to no be slaved to it? Why would two outlets not work? they did work before. I checked the circuit breakers and all are on. thanks for any help.

  • great!!!good stuff!!!

  • My god thank you so much that was my problem I was told how to do it but I could never picture it man it is simple thanks alot

  • I am a Journeyman Electrician, I do residential, commercial and residential. I have been in the field for nearly 6 years and I will be sincere...I was always confused by three-way swithces(mostly on remodel because some electricians run 12/2 instead of 12/3 wire, so they use the white as a traveler) but I can honestly say, your demonstration is a no brainer and makes it very clear. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  • good video. and yes, pictures are worth a thousand words.

  • Great video just what I needed to see.

  • How very helpful this is - thank you very much!!! I had thought the people who wired my house didn't know what they were doing, but now it totally makes sense after watching this.

  • This video is 2 way switchs and a single pole switch.

  • @aryvivitoy You would think they would be called 2-way switches. It makes more sense, but they are called 3-way.

  • board design really makes it easy i knew how they worked but that just made it so much simpler

  • Thanks for taking time to explain this. It was very helpful for me.

  • finaly somebody that makes sense and keeps it simple but very well detailed thanks for uploading rhis video very helpful......

  • wow this was good thank you had the same problem understanding it too

  • Great really helped me out thx a bunch

  • I have been searching the web everywhere to learn how-to wire a single pole and a 3-way switch (side-by-side) and you are the only one that offers not only the answer but a video. I tip my hat to professionals like yourself willing to share.......

  • intresting!

  • very useful, thank you so much

  • Indeed, very helpful video. Thank you for this!

  • Great video--really crystalizes it! Thanks so much.

  • Thank you so much for this video! Completely simplified the 3-way switch wiring. Not quite as freaked out to give it a try now. Thanks!

  • Very good demo! Its always easier to remember when shown grafically

  • are you from scottland?

  • @jason7660 Nope!

  • great vid--

Do you have a video--or advice on CHANGING a 3-way switch to a 2-way switch and INOP'ing the other switch.. ?

is that possible.? one 3-way is behind a fridge- and cannot be used..!

  • @jimmywacked Yes, it is possible to do that. e-mail me from our website and we can go from there.

  • Terry -- This was the best explanation of a three-way switch that I've seen to date. Thanks so much, and keep posting more videos. Don't scrap that board! It's a great learning tool. The key was understanding that one traveller wire is always hot, and when the switch positions match, the light is on.

  • oh canada

  • awesome dude!!!!!!

  • Good job!
