@JailhouseRN there is no purpose really. if you listen to a commentary of a previous season, him and Cimm(his cameraman) joke about the kung fu outfit and hope that nobody really think he wears that outfit all the time when he's at home. it's mostly a costume he slaps on when filming at home because it's not underwear and it's reportedly very comfortable

OK upon review of the film I have one more thing to add, a bunch of metal on your head is going to amplify those EMFs and such, so what you really need is a nice ground wire running from the hat to the bottom of your shoe, as long as the hat is at ground potential it should effectively block all EMFs and alien transmissions!
