  • Great movie! One of my favorite manflicks. Watch it at least once a year. Love the quote from Cole Younger, something to the effect: "I spent 4 years in the army and 14 years trying to get out" - I SO identify with that line...

  • One of my favorite movies of all time, top 5 at least.

  • the long riders is a true western classic,it's one of my favorite westerns right up there with the wild bunch.the wild bunch is a lot more bloodier and violent than the long riders but they both have that one awesome scene in the movie where you have to go wow.also big fan of both david and keith carradine.they still show reruns of there show wild west tech.

  • At 2:13 the guy on the right says "This amp goes to eleven"!

  • A real look at how things were in the south in post Civil War America.

  • Great movie!! Began the 'real western' movement. Real oil in them hats! Great soundtrack, too, including Ry Cooder's rendition of the Good Old Rebel song. Told the story right, too. The Union took the role of punishers in many areas, including southwestern Missouri, where they were brutal, burning towns, etc. Loyalty oaths were required as tho Rebs were traitors.

  • Good morning, everyone! Today is the birthday of the late actor David Carradine(1936-2009). This, in my opinion, was one of his finest performances. Enjoy- and I hope everyone has a nice weekend!

  • This brilliant film made me interested in American history.

Did extensive research and wrote a thesis about the American Civil War.

Like all wars it was a bloody tragedy, but not entirely impartial anymore considering the Southern cause.

    Nothing to do with slavery.

Everything with states rights and the original draught of the constitution.

Essentailly however multiculturalism was the main instignator and this goes for most wars.

  • @helmuthoorn Good observation, Helmut.

Anyone who, like you, looks beyong the shallow propaganda offered by the victors' successors will agree with you.

I am not American and came to the same conclusion as you. The fruits of the northern "victory" are to be seen in how the US is viewed today.

  • I agree with a lot of the posts, this was a very under appreceiated movie, with all of the real brothers potraying brothers lended realism to this great movie, the lingo, the music for the times, this is one of my favorite all time westerns, the best being Lonesome Dove, but to have a top ten, doesn't make sense, because everybody idea of what makes a great western is different.

  • "Jesse James, you understand, had killed many men..."

  • i really liked this one but american outlaws is my favorite about james younger gang

  • @chilton189 Are you fucking retarded? American Outlaws was a parody version of the James Gang. So completely inaccurate and over the top and TERRIBLY miscast, too. Stick to The Long Riders or The Assassination of Jesse James for the best depictions of the outlaw and his gang.

  • the best western ever made

  • And a soundtrack by Ry Cooder - excellent

  • COOL THAT THEY USED REAL LIFE BROTHER ACTORS TO PLAY BROTHERS, OHHH THE GUEST BROTHERS PLAYED THAT COWARD BOB FORD. mY granny was from missouri, HER DAD NEW THE REAL jessie james, DID YOU KNOW THE MOTOCYCLE DESIGNER jessie james'S great great uncle WAS THE reAL JESSIE JAMES, NOW YOU DO!

  • If anybody was a coward it would have been Jesse James, not only did he shoot all his victims in the back, he also was a rascist who believed in white supremecy.

  • WHO PLAYED THE COWARD BOB?

  • @tenaciousharmonizer . Nicholas Guest played Bob Ford and His brother Christopher (This is Spinal Tap) Guest played his brother Charlie Ford.

  • "That's an incredibly stupid question"

  • I rember seeing this when it came out. I was in 10th grade.

    A classic!

Thanks for the great quality posting.

  • Got the DVD for under $5 at Real Canadian Superstore! What a deal!

  • Looks great, thanks for uploading this! :)

  • The Long Riders is one classic but underappriciated westerns ever made. It stars 4 set of brothers as the outlaws one of them are the Carradines as the Younger Bros. We'll miss one of them David Carradine who died this week at 72 He'll be surely missed.

  • @yogafan6500 amen and missouri always beats texas in a fight gun or knife dont matter which

  • When this movie came out it was of the most graphic, bloody movies to date. None of the old TV western action. Beginning with this movie you could see blood and meat flying. Also David Carradine played a great role as Cole Younger, he will be missed.

  • That's why we could only show the trailer for the action scenes are bloody in a Sam Packinpah style aka 'Wild Bunch' but this is still a must see.

  • @tomyearl Have you seen "The Wild Bunch"? No other Hollywood movie surpassed the shoot outs in that one.

  • Amen!..One of David Carradine's best!..

He and Pamela Reed make quite a pair in this..

  • I agree-perfect casting all around!

  • David Carradine will be missed.
