If you want a spot in that area you need to arive around 10am. Each hour past 10am you'll be about a block back.. by 6pm you're 15 blocks back. And thats a new york block, not a standard city block. If you can't get there by 3-4pm its not worth going, you can't hear the music , can't see much and you'll be over crowded and can't even turn left or right. I've been twice.

Got to tell you guys, I'm from NY but have seen both Sydney and London fireworks and I thought the London display was bar far the most spectacular for organization and somehow less brashy, unlike the kitsch of the US displays - the music (less John Lennon of course, but he's hardly American) is always so crap here!

i was there too ( for the 2007-2008)... u just have to keep going, ask police, somehow we got there at 6pm and go to the front where the action was, it was quite hilarious actually and also if you dunt wanna do that people started to line up at 2pm ! :)

this was one of my worst new years eve experience.

we were standing two streets from the times square and we didnt' see/hear anything... the police was so rude and arrogant, didn't let anybody closer. thousands of people couldnt see anything just each other, huge crowd, very cold and felt so miserable standing there...

so it looks cool on my screen but actually to be there it's not fun at all.. (maybe it's fun if you are poor and don't have other choice to spend this night)

I agree, I was there but I left early, it was lame. The police were unkind. I was too far away to see or hear anything, but too close to be in front of one of those giant screens. Too bad, hope they do a better job next year, tho I probably won't go, getting drunk with friends is more fun :)

lol. I've been to London, and I'm from New York. lol - there really isn't a comparison. Piccadilly Circus has a 1/4 of the amount of lit signs, half as big, and all the buildings are a 1/4th as tall. XD Still nice tho. But not the same. ^^ Nothing compares to Times Square.
