The only people that would say that rightwing tax cuts is for the rich and similar ignorant stuff are people who are lazy bums /and/or think it's right to rely on other people's money to support them.
Just saw the Woodstock documentary for the first time yesterday. This song is featured as one of 2 from the Joan Baez segment of the event. I did a bit of research, and I realized that Jeffrey Shurtleff doesn't even have his own Wikipedia entry.
Think what you like about about the political aspect of his and Joan's concert, but damned they are good together in a musical sense. What a shame that Jeff Shurtleff didn't pursue his musical career further than was the case. Great song.
Yeah it was written by Roger McGuinn and Gram Parsons according to Roger wrote the song in London months after Ralph Emery had played one verse of a song they pitched for Emery's show. Getting wasted (in McGuinn's own words) he and GP started goofing on Emery who was making truck ads when they pitched You ain't going Nowhere. Emery asked them what's that supposed to mean? Roger said I dunno it's a Dylan song. Emery told he wouldn't play it and went back to his ads. Gotta love the real story.
Most of these correspondents are severely missing the point about this song. It was not written as an anti-war song, but was written by the Byrds'as a reaction to their slagging off by the traditional Nashville country music 'old guard' following the Byrds' appearance at the Ryman Auditorium for a Grand Ole Opry programme. The person the song refers to was the Grand Ole Opry presenter who had a problem with long hair and beards.
Yeah it was written by Roger McGuinn and Gram Parsons. Roger says they wrote it in London months after Ralph Emery had played one verse of a song they pitched for Emery's WSM show. Getting wasted (in McGuinn's words) they started goofing on Emery who was making truck ads when they pitched You ain't going Nowhere. Emery asked them what's that supposed to mean? Roger said "I dunno it's a Dylan song." Emery told he wouldn't play it and went back to his ads. Gotta love the real story.
They say we all turn into our parents...any coincidence our rebellion fades and our fear of death increases as our testosterone levels drop? If you voted for George Jr., please don't bitch, you gave up that right in the voting booth...
I used to play this on the old record player in high school when you first blew the dust off, and enjoyed Joan again and again, she helped make me wiser!
@travisandlisa1 It is featured on the dvd "Woodstock Diaries" Absolutely great me and my 2 friends wept the first time we heard it because of the immense beauty of it all.
Reagan was a rightwing village idiot conspiracy theorist, an anti-Christian bigot, a racist, and a rightwing theocrat.
Reagan and his the markets will police themselves deregulation policies are also what has led to the destruction of the American economy along with rightwing tax cuts for the rich.
and don't forget Reagan couldn't have done any of this without the help the Nixon administration gave him by collapsing Bretton Woods System, and giving the world the "Nixon Shock"
@awnok many hippy ideas were close to communism and I know about communism because I lived in Poland in the days of communism so I actually lived in that system and travel throught the Soviet block. I am American though have lived most of my life outside the US so I know a lot about such countries
@truvianni yeah,. so?. communism is not as bad as american media makes it look. I dont defend the soviet union because that was a failed attempt of communism, but the ideas of communism, the theory, well, get a good read at it and youll notice its not at all bad. capitalism on the other hand is what has many people in poverty because its a system in which there cant be general wealth for everyone, and look at it in global propotions and youll realise its just not good por the mayority.
@BogotaEmbajadora no offense your ideas at best are very naive and even ignorant I can tell you have never lived in communism and know nothing about it I on the other hand lived in Eastern Europe in the time of commnunism and can tell you it is a system which failed here and it is failing everywhere else even Cuba is turning away from it not to mention China or Vietnam only North Korea remains but that is true disaster of course you can believe what you want but I know better and have seen more
@truvianni do you have any reading comprehention? I already told you they were FAILED attempts, but that doesnt make the theory bad, most comunists admit that they are failed attempts and in fact to reach a communist society it would take many generations since it needs a change of perspective on life frome everyone, so thats why there is socialism as a step between capitalism and comunism. Comunism has never happened and not even socialism. Read the theories and youll realise.
@truvianni but even many people affected still think capitalism is better, and that is because the media, politics and the way capitalism has developed in our lifes has led us to be blinded by what it really is, its a false illusion of "good". its not a coincidence that the owners of mass media have strong political beliefs pro-capitalism, and thats because they are benefited from it and so they tell people its good so that people dont come up with better ideas and start thinking for themselves.
@MaceMn Speak for yourself just because you don’t care what I think that does not mean that others don’t and you might want to google my name “Truvianni” to see just how many people don’t care what I think. I also don’t see where all that many people care about your opinions and for somebody who doesn’t care what I think you have taken the time to reply but I wont waste my time with you any more
