  • the stick is better than the counter weight

just saying but urs is realy good

  • @flaflafla47 Really depends what you are going for. The stick is great for vlogging the steadycam is great for home movie production.

  • I was in melbourne last year, and I am only upto the bit where you made friends with the birds.

Well, my mother and I were in a macca's, and in the 'outside area' which was covered up by clear screens, little sparrows were getting in, and there was about 10 of them just flying around.

  • I just managed to accidentally rate you one star. The shame is unbearable, I assure you. I'm removing the cookie to make up and give this five for great justice.

Props anyway, and you can smack me if you want.

Also, regarding what CrustySnipes asked, you could make the upper piece of tube shorter and the lower one longer to make up for the change in weight ratio with a heavier camera, that way the whole doesn't grow too heavy too quickly. Just fine tuning the leverage is enough.

  • Great stuff guys. I love it.

  • You're not afraid people will assume you're evil for putting 666 in your name?

I don't believe you are, I just wonder how many dumb comments you get about it.

B/c, like Angry Aussie says, people are thick as shit.

My friend's a professional actor, and a woman once told him he was "letting evil into the world" when he played a psychic in a movie.

That's why I agree with Mr. Angry: thick as shit.

My friend's one of the nicest guys I know.

  • it was a name i used on forums alot. so it really doesnt mean much to me. but yeh, people are thick as shit.

  • @darkrealm666 Seems like it would be a handy filter to me, the dumbfucks will sort themselves, leaving less guesswork for you, good strategy!

  • I usually go with rubber ball on a stick, it dampens hand vibrations pretty well, but this is a very nice step up!

  • nice vid, im gonna building one tomorrow :D

nice to see you and angry, you two see like cool people in person.

    ox

  • good to hear!

    be creative!

Angry and I are pretty pimpin fella's...

  • WTF KipKay stole your idea and put it up on make magazine

  • it isnt my idea, i googled it... :P

  • i went out into the woods and found a t shaped fallen branch for free. for the price of a 2 inch stretch of duck tape i think mine wins hands down.

only joking. nice idea. can you change the weight at the bottom for heavier cameras?

  • your comment made me laugh quite hard, yours does win! :P

Yep that is exactly it, but you can change the weight around for different effects... all in all it starts to get a bit heavy...

  • Awesome Vid angry is the man.

  • I responded to AngryAussie on global warming, and he blocked me! WHAT A BIOTCH!!!! HAHAHAHA!

  • i didnt do it :P

  • OK :)

  • I wonder if your one of those retarded people that don't think humans are the reason why global warming is happening, if you are then don't whinge

  • i have no view on the matter dude, i honestly know jack shit about it, if you have a problem with Angry Aussie take it up with him... not me...

  • Wha? no mate im a friend of andrew, i was responding to randy lol

  • mah bad dude.. sorry bout the confusion...

  • Ahh your right mate, cool vid btw

  • I wonder if your one of those retarded people that think humans are the reason why global warming is happening, if you are then don't whinge

  • i do not ang around with denying retards. And i'm not flooding a mate of my mate's comment channel. So just shut it.

  • something i didn't notice the first time i watched this why is angryaussie dressed like a counterfeit watch salesman lol

  • Hey, that was pretty cool. I am going to try and steal your design.. hehe. But just to understand the physics of it, I basically need a counter weight located at a distance from the bottom end of the camera? Does it matter how heavy the weight is (proportional to the camera and the shaft?). And how is it that when you turn it upside down for the low tracking shot the video stays upright? Sorry.. I am a bit of a newb at this.

  • it isnt my design i just googled it.... but the weight can be between 800grams and 2kgs. it doesnt have to be exact. i have a 1.25kg weight on mine and its pretty darn good!

the reason its turned right way up when its doing the low tracking shot is cause i edited it that way. its really simple to do in premiere.. any more questions dont hesitate to pm me!

  • either your camera is bad or that homemade copy of Johnny Chung's steadycam was made poorly but that video was not steady at all. made me kinda sea sick watching. gotta give you an A for effort and and F for claiming that design as yours.

  • I said, you can find all the details about making it, i never claimed it as my own.

When you actually make a video worth seeing, you may criticize mine.

  • 5:40 that building looks like the citadell on Half-Life 2

    look it up. nice video!

  • It is the citadel!! RUN!!!

  • ahhhh cool!! : ) thanks alot for the tip!! : )i'll put that into practice sometime!! : ).

  • : ) COOL!! : ) cheers dude!! : )

    - Joe

  • this steadicam need of the gimbal.. no gimbal no fluidity :)

  • if i were to include a gimbal it would become not as portable, would cost a lot more and take alot more effort to build... this is for people who want something cheap, effective and easy. but i do know what your talking about, thanks for stopping by! :D

  • oh wow..never saw this one.

Yes u certainly attract cute birds ;)

  • Nice work guys. :-)

  • I'll send you 40 bucks...and u can make me one..

    DEAL!!!

  • Thanks riverbasil for checking out my little corner of youtube! glad you liked my little how to vid! :D

  • thanks for showing this, can you record andrew with his monopod??plz

  • will do on saturday for you dude!

  • spiny spiny spiny

  • that was mcdonalds ?!!! ooooooo

    see ya 26th

  • holy crap, when he wears that coat he looks like he's mafia

  • he IS mafia..

  • OK It took me a little while But I sinked up the videos to the T with both videos going it sounded pretty cool tho I might have to make one. :)

  • sweet

  • Speaking of acting: you look like one of the characters from Kingdom Hearts 2, but his name escapes me at the moment.

Am happy to do some acting for you on the assumption I have time. Have karaoke finals str8 after the meeting, so it is questionable on how much time I have.

  • It looks great edited together. I love the additional shots too - you have a really good film-maker's eye!

  • aahahah angry hahahah listen at 3:35 hahahaah

  • lol! nice spot :P dirty mind you!

  • you need to go out and get some roller blades bro... or some thing to roll on for smoother video

  • Hi Peter, cool steady cam, it works quite well. Considering it only cost $40 dollars and a little labour, it's great. You can see the improvment over a hand held shot. I'll see you at the gathering. Nick

  • That really DOES smooth out the motion (and I'm guessing you flip-flopped the image in post production so we wouldn't be looking at the jogger upside down? LOL).

Thanks for sharing this. The footage around the city was really sharp too.

    Useless spinning things, FTW!

    :-)

  • Nicely edited. That's a skill I have to work on. I made a monopod yesterday out of wood, so I could make videos more like Andrew's, then he told me about your steadycam rig, and this morning, I modified my monopod into a steadycam. I have a weight that's about 2 1/4 pounds, or about a kilo, and the rest is made of wood. Works quite well; thanks for the inspiration.

  • its really easy to make, i didnt have a drill for so long so it took me 2 months to make! but glad you liked the video.. my editing skills come from a multimedia class, 2 promo dvds (both with 60+ hours work on them) and just me being here on youtube, so its really something you can learn easily! good luck though mate!!

  • Kinda interesting seeing the other perspective - and also kinda creepy O.O

  • i thought so too when i saw andrew when i was making this vid!
