  • Oooooh that's Rosanne Barr

  • They couldn't have found a better person to play the wicked witch. Roseanne made the character evil and at the same time humorous. Thanks for posting.

  • YOU STAY OUTTA THIS, GIRLFRIEND!

Perhaps I should've taken some cues from Roseanne when I played the Wicked Witch.

  • Ugh, all the stupid references to Elphaba on these comments. Wicked the novel and show is a pox on the Baum stories and the MGM legacy. It proves that just because something is public domain doesn't mean you ought to screw around with it. I want my witches wicked, not misunderstood animal rights misfits. Now, an entire generation know this character as Elphaba. Rubbish. Oh, what a world....

  • @Frenchiebleu22 Actually, the role of the WWotW was written as a comedic role in the RSC version of the show. It's a little different from the movie as far as songs, dialogue and characters go. All 4 actresses who were a part of the MSG production (Roseanne, Eartha Kitt, JoAne Worley, Lilane Montevecchi) played the characters comically because that's how it was written in this adaption.

  • hear the little kids crying, that isn't good hearted Elphaba,

but the source of millions of childrens nightmares, the Wicked Witch of the West!

  • "Laugh it up Glinda!!"

    "Stay out of it girlfriend!!!"

Two of the awesomest quotes ever. :)

  • i know to do the dance

  • Rosanne was too silly to play the witch! OMG the witch is supposed to be evil NOT silly! DUH!

  • @gnostic2030

The reason they were ruby was because it was the first color film

  • were using the same script as them...didnt you guys use TAMS-WITMARK MUSIC LIBRARY, INC????

  • Yes, all productions of the MGM version must go through Tams-Witmark. This production had the script and score slightly altered as it was a professional New York production and later a national tour.

  • the kids in the audience cry when the witch comes, kinda funny

  • Wait a minute I might be wrong.. Is it JoAnne Worley or Roseanne as the witch?

  • Roseanne. JoAnne came in for the national tour in 1999. She is in one of my other videos.

  • This is such an amazing cast. Like c'mon Roseanne as the witch? Perfect! One of these days i'm going to have to sit here and watch all of these.

  • Oh, I do adore Wicked, both the show and the book, but please everyone, stop calling the Wicked Witch, Elphaba.

  • i would have loved to have seen this lol

  • Elphaba and G(a)linda are characters of Wicked, not the Wizard of Oz. The two shows are NOT one and the same.

  • I know that, WizardofOzfan39. It was just a joke, so chill out.

  • @SelenaRiddle its kinda funny because in wicked they DO have a catfight after... hahahahahaha

  • you have to think for once, L. Frank Baum wrote it in 1900 and at the time silver and gold where the most valuble.

  • I love the sliver slippers (1900) more then the 1939 Ruby slippers

  • not to be mean but i think your like the only one who feels that way lol... however i do enjoy the silver shoes but not as much as i love the ruby slippers...

  • is it me or at around 1:45ish does she look like she has

mad-kankles lol i mean i LOVE this vid but wow her ankles look really thick...

    that was GREAT 100-5 stars!

  • Thats was GREAT!!

  • I wanna know how the ruby slippers got on Dorothy

  • My guess is that there is a munchkin with another pair (the real pair) of slippers and when dorothy stood behind glinda's big froofy dress, the munchkin snuck on the slippers.

  • You are correct!

  • Me too!

  • WOW i'm loving this! Everything is just perfect!

  • "The RUUUUUBUY SLIPPERS. AHH! THEY'RE GONE, THEY'RE GONE, WATCHU' DONE WIT THEM?!?! IM SERIOUS!" lol 1:20 lol hilarious!

  • seeing wicked in nyc one month form toady in nyc on november 1st

  • Dorothy has cankles...lol

  • You noticed that too?????

  • Both witches need some serious work, the good witch on her personality and delivery and the bad witch just needs a WORKOUT !

  • that's roseanne barr, you idiot.

  • Is This Still Going On?

  • No, it ended in early 2000.

  • It Might Have Been The Smoke And The Flashing That Startled Them. lol! Its Actually Kind Of Cute! lol!

  • This is from the professional production that played at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden in 1997. It was also revived in 1998 and then toured the country through the early part of 2000.

  • Oh this is AMAZING!! I WISH I COULD HAVE WENT! WHEN I WAS LIKE 7 ME AND MY FRIENDS WOULD PUT THIS ON AND FOR THE CYCLONE WE'D USE SHEETS AND GET INSIDE THEM AND SPIN AROUND THEM. LOL. ROSEANNE WAS IN THAT?? I BET THAT WAS AMAZING!

  • i always liked that violin thing at 4:50

  • yea i know what you mean. i always liked it too it adds to the send off i think.

  • Margaret Hamilton says the "I'll get You my Pretty and your Little Dog too" the best. Roseanne is funny in saying it but I'm use to to the Magaret Hamilton version.

  • Isn't that Rosanne?

  • Yeah! I think she is amazing as the Witch.

  • Roseanne is Elphaba! You Go Girl!

  • What a great preformance! The quality could have been better, is M.S.G a theatre on Broadway?

  • Please remember that this was filmed in 1997. Digital cameras were VERY expensive, so I believe this was taped on VHS and then transferred to computer.

MSG stands for Madison Square Garden, as in the arena. They added a theatre in the 90s which is called the Theatre at the Madison Square Garden. It is not considered an official Broadway theatre.

  • If you continue to post these comments, i'm going to block you.

  • Elphaba blames her sister's death on Dorothy , but her sister's death was cause by Madame Morrible .

  • in the musical version yes but in the book it was and accident

  • no offense guys, but WICKED and the Wizard of Oz are two completely different shows. They do focus on the same place, and some of the same characters, but WICKED is the prequil, and really doesnt contridict The Wizard of Oz, so can we just stick to the Wizard of Oz and not focus on WICKED (I LOVE WICKED, but still, two different shows.)

  • Thank you.
