there are various hadiths suggesting that music is haram although it is not directly stated in the Qur'an as being haram. to be honest, i think that if the lyrics are not so bad and it doesn't interfere with your salah or your iman or remembrance of Allah then it's okay, but that's my opinion. it's mainly musical instruments that are said to be haram. some nasheeds have music, but i can't see how one of our prophets (David) could play a harp and then music be haram?
