FiremanOly, You have a fantastic voice and have truly mastered a truly amazing song. The overwhelming emotion you can hear within the song is astronomical. You have done your father proud. I can't help but playback this rendition time and time again it grasps my heart and truly takes my breath away. I'd do anything to meet you and hear it live and still it would sound fantastic. Congratulations and the up most respect is sent your way. Your father will certainly be resting in peace now.
Im sitting here trying to stop the tears coming from my eyes...Your story is so very moving....Your Dad is looking down with the biggest smile to you and your family...And someday we will all be with our loved ones and GOD....your voice is very strong...when i see my parents later and i hug them im going to appreciate even more than i do how blessed i am......GOD bless you
@DebbyAmber Sorry to hear about your loss. Nobody really understands unless they go through it themselves. Today also happens to be the day of my mother's funeral. I think about them alot during the holidays but I almost always have to smile because I loved them so much and truly believe that I will get to see them again someday. God Bless and hope you have a blessed Christmas,
Once again I find myself coming back to this one. Amazing my friend! You have been blessed with a true gift. I'm glad you get to share it with us man!
Wow, I have trouble listening to this and not welling up.... I am working on this song now and like to hear other covers and you knocked me out with this one. You really nailed it, vocals and guitar.
A terrific performance of a great song. My father and I have had our battles, even going a few years without meaningful dialog at various times. I am glad to say that we are closer today than we've ever been. With our checkered past, this song brings out the emotions in me as well.
You are an extremely gifted performer with an incredible range. This is a beautiful dedication. I lost my dad 5 years ago Feb 22 and miss him terribly. Thanks for posting this great performance.
Awesome hob, Steve! I lost my Dad 8 years ago. His birthday just passed on Feb 24th. (He would have been 87) By the way, I never really cared for the original version of this song. It was sort of dull. Thanks for bringing it to life with that wonderful singing voice of yours. I am truly a fan of yours. Take care!
Great job. The original came out not long after I lost my dad. I still shed a tear or hundred every time I hear it. Saw it done live once and well you can imagine.
We all hear the bits of the song and take it to heart.
So hauntingly beautiful. So moving. On the day you uploaded this video, it had been exactly 19 years since I lost my father. I watched it the first time then, and it meant a great deal to me. Thank you, Steve. 5 stars.
Thank you, too, Daniel (DsmB2007), and Sherry (sherrywine1941) for sharing this wonderful video with me.
That was fantastic Steve! You sang and played this song beautifully and it was a very touching dedication to your Dad! Well done, I enjoyed it very much! ... FrAnK (★★★★★)
i bet your dad is the proudest father up there right now, he may not have been there to see your kids grow up,but you know for sure he's with them everyday watching over them.
Holy cow Steve - you hit this one out of the park ! I, like yourself, hope people get the message as well. Spent the morning at hockey, afternoon fishing and tonight - movie night...all with those I love !
You sang and played a moving rendition of that song. My dad was 88 when he died. He was a volunteer fireman at the company where he worked. I have his hat and badge. Yes, someday we'll be together again.God willing.
Thank to those of you who have commented. I was fortunate in that before my father and mother died (my brother too), there was NEVER any doubt in our minds of how much we loved each other. I never have to deal with that regret. PLEASE PLEASE if there is something between you and a loved one, especailly something small and petty, LET IT GO and tell them you love them. @FiremanOly Incredible cover...really!...My mate put me on to this......My wee brother died recently...and...I have to say...this was a real pleasure to watch...you have a great voice...Thankyou very much...going to sub.
@maadmaestro Thanks for the kind words. So sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. I too have suffered the loss of my brother. He was one half of identical twins and the "Evil C" (cancer) got him. Horrible thing to go through. I am only glad that my parentsere gone first because it would have destroyed my parents, especially Mom, to have to live through the loss of a child. Hope you are finding peace in your heart. It does take some time but it will eventualy come. God Bless
Always loved this song! Wonderful job with it! Nice tribute to your dad:) I lost my father in 98...wished he could see my kids now. Thanks Steven for the share! *****
Very touching my friend. I can definately hear the difference in this song than your others. Only for the reason that it is so close to your heart. Excellent man!
Thanks Steve. there aren't many songs that I get emotional over but this is one of them. I seem to remember you doing a short version of this once and I thoght it sounded pretty darn good if I remember right. Allyour stuff is great though so that is no surprise. Your tribute to your bride was very touching and beautiful. Glad you liked it and so glad we got the opportunity to cross musical paths on this crazy format. Glad to call you a good friend. Stay in touch. God BLess you and your family.
We all have things we wished we had said to, or done for our parents before they passed, this song captures that regret well. I've been known to shed a few tears on this one as well. Hey, don't forget me when ya'll go fishing...lol. I'll be the guy with no crowns who barely got in but feeling very grateful to see my loved ones who have passed on. Perhaps we can sing in the choir together - that would be cool.
All I can say is Hallelujah! Praise God and I'll see you there. If I know my Dad he has already got the best fishing holes and he'lll keep them a secret until I get there. I'll be glad to share though LOL! as far as the choir thing goes I just may sit and listen to you sing for a change LOL!
Steve what can we say? I say we because 3 of us are huddled around Ben's little netbook computer with tears rolling down our cheeks. Beautiful song matey, Your dad will be so proud of you and i know he will tell you so when next you see him. I know he is watching over you and your beautiful family. Thanks for sharing your story with the world.
Thanks guys! I think of my father often and It always brings a smile to my face. He was a wonderful man who had his demons like anyone else but there was no doubt the he knew how much I loved him long before he died. We had our spats as I was growing. Nothing serious and nothing that ever lasted. Dad Died at 66 years old. He was one of the stongest men I ever knew for how he overcame abject poverty and abuse from his father. He only showed me and my siblings love. I can't wait to see him again
Have always loved this song. I too have lost my father and mother, also brother and sister and yes this song makes me emotional whenever I hear it. Great job and very nice cover. Thanks to 4846steven for suggesting this song. Peace.
thanks Sherry. I know you are going through some of those same feelings with the recent passing of your mom. We just never realize what a huge part of us seems vacant when we lose a parent or someone close, until they are gone. I think of my Dad now and almost always smile. It takes time to get to that point but as cliche' as it sounds Time really does heal the soul. God Bless My Good Friend!
I'll say it again, you're one of the best male vocalists on YT, and this is one of your best. The song is even more powerful because it means so much to you, beautifully done Steve
Thanks so much Rob for your kind words. You always have kind things to say. I appreciate your support and for the times you have featured my videos. Even though I don't get the chance to respond all the time, I appreciate the sharea I get from you as well. Peace!

It's not perfect but it came out okay and I think my Dad would like it. I'm glad you did my friend. You are a good friend to many people on this crazy thing we call Youtube. It is an honor to be counted as one of them. God Bless You!
Thanks you Dear. My father actually died when he was 66 years old, 21 years ago. sometimes it seems like only a couple of years, sometimes it seems like 50 years ago. I think about him all the time but whne I do it almost always brings a smile to my face. I feel fortunate I had him for as many years as I did although I certainly wish he were alive today.

Thanks Daniel. My Dad had his demons like anyone else but I was very fortunate to have had him as my father. He was an incredibly strong person who went through so much pain as a child. you did great job on it. knew you would. now I've got to fiqure out how to play it myself. you must be doing a pulloff or hammeron on a couple of strings to get the sound and palm muting some? anyhow thanks for a great tune. myron
I know how you feel,I lost my dad in 91,My brother in 87,now my mother is 86 ,she just had a stroke and she is in the hospital waiting for rehab, You don;t realize how fast life goes until you hit 50.
My Dad went home in 89, Mom went in "92 and I lost an older twin brother to cancer in '96. Live is indeed short. Thats why I try to have "Oil in the Lamp" if you know what I mean. I want to be ready and in a state of grace when my turn comes to go home. I most definitely do not fear death. I will get to be reunited with many loved ones on the other side but of course most importantly I'll get to meet Christ. Sorry don't mean to preach. I just get excited sometimes when I think about it, Peace
This was done in poor light and in one take because of all the street traffic and people looking in the windows at me. I'm a bit distracted at times. Sorry! Steve4846 Thanks for requesting this.
Wow!! This sounds even better than I imagined. Fabulous!! You're vocals are amazing...your love for the song and the emotional connection it has for you shines through in your performance. Brilliant song request, Steven...brilliant cover, Steve. :)
