  • Money, money, money. How about the kids? How about giving the kids time to develop properly before feeding them into the govt. machine? How about allowing children to form their own thoughts and points of view rather than telling them what they need to think and believe? How about just let the child read a book without testing the child on what he has read and then telling the child his or her point of view was wrong? I think the educators miss the point entirely. Education is about kids.

  • If Mr. Stossel were shock on how much millions we've spent in our schools? My $20 might give him a heart attack! Read below v v v by the way, I'm a great fan of Stossel. Be healthy my friend!

  • I spend $20 for my child's education. She was only FIVE years old when she start solving all these: 800-289 /398+267 / 56X39 / 2 3/7 + 1 1/14 Her grade level was 4.7 Was my child a wiz kid? No! So I volunteered in a public school & did the same thing! Teach! Half of the kids in that school start learning with me beyond their grade level. I'm talking about stragglers starts solving w/ me. I'm just curious? At that time, I brought w/ me some markers & copy papers. It was less than $10 total!

  • When I was teaching elem. math to 70 kids who can't subtract regrouping. I did not asked if their parents were helping them in their school work. I just teach! 70 out of 70 kids start solving with me in minutes of instruction! U can call them the worst of the worst! Parents got nothing to do with my teaching. Kids starts solving not because of bad parenting? Teachers go to youtube.. lionking4277 and watch my videos. How to teach 101! Simple to follow and it's a free site! Go and enjoy!!

  • The woman says in the video that the parents know what is best for their child. The problem is that besides some bad teachers, we have an enormous problem with terrible parents. There are not enough fathers & good fathers. In the schools there is a terrible problem of not enough men in the schools.

  • @56robrown I agree, there are some bad parenting, but what does this have to do with how many men there are in the system? It's not about the sexes.

  • @56robrown If the "system" would stop taking kids away from the fathers while only making the father pay child support and limiting his time with his children then more fathers might be around. Being a father is much more than paying child support. It is being with the children whenever the children want to see their father and vice versa. This idea of "deadbeat" fathers is the same crap propaganda fed to the American people like the propaganda of war.

  • @56robrown Alot of fathers want to be there for their kids, but the courts won't let them be there.

  • @reptilia5 You may be right in some circumstances, but there is a whole lot of sperm donors that have zero ambition to be a father or a real good father.

  • I think after grade school and you have pass most private entrance examinations...you are set to GO and collect that $200.

  • They should get audit regularly, especially your public U.S. college of business and the output it have onto private corporations and the financial system!

  • If it public, then yes there should be regulations..it's the taxpayers money and the safety net of things. I think the problem is that it is public, so who care? why should your teacher teach you things so you can better than them? Noooo, they always wanted to be better than you...thus the whole process is a whole downgrade per generation.

  • although this is true the fact of the matter is that the good public and/ or private schools are in the rich districts. this means the rich people living there can send their child to a good school next door while the poor and lower class have do deal with a shabby school next door... perpetuating the ideal in the long term that the rich get richer and the poor stay poor.

  • America may be patriotic for capitalism, but they still employ communist ideals for the education system. You may have saved yourself from a depression, but in reality that was a bad move by pumping money to do so. Your free market should have adjusted. And put up proper regulations and take down the bad ones... stop contradicting your ideals...

  • @marvin140100 Thank you! Well said! America does not really know what it wants. We criticize young children for being "too active" and put them on medication to keep them still and stupid then when the kid gets older and doesn't want to do anything we criticize them for being lazy and inactive. This country only wants children to be "convenient" for the whims of adults.
